I watched the first couple of laps of this on youtube, and thought it was really exciting. Reid in the Cavalier, Audi's, ex F1 drivers galore. Unfortunatly I can't find the rest.

Does any one have any information on this like results???

Was 1994 the one that took place at Monza?
If it was I think Paul Radisich won.

No, 1994 was Donington Park. If there hadn't been a red flag, Cleland would have won. :p :

There is a video available but I think it's discontinued so your best bet would probably be ebay.

After the early skrmishes, the race was actually quite boring. The multiple race format used at Monza the previous year would probably have been better.

That's not quite true!

There was an official tape produced from the Monza event from 1993. But not for 1994 event!

Although the BBC did televise the event, so video of the event does exist.

The footage on youtube is actually an edited version, it is different to what I have.

If you look on www.supertouring.co.uk (http://www.supertouring.co.uk) and look at videos, then dvd's for sale there are a couple of DVD's for sale. I think there are two, one a shorter highlights the other the full race. I think the chap running the site has listed them on ebay too. Not sure if they are still there though.

Looking at the items listed, they are odd bits recorded from TV at the time, stuff that's not avaliable to buy anywhere else!

Amazingly a site like that and they can't spell DONINGTON correctly!

I think they are from Eurosport (definitely one of them), I bought them and a couple more (TOCA Shootouts) just so I could see them as there was never an official video released. Quality was too bad for something recorded off the television.

Pardon me for butting in....but what was the Touring Car World Cup and why isn't it still running?

Obviously their is the European Touring Car Cup but that is different. We are talking about a "World Cup" of Touring Cars.

Obviously their is the European Touring Car Cup but that is different. We are talking about a "World Cup" of Touring Cars.

It was an FIA event held in 1993 at Monza, '94 at Donington and '95 at Paul Ricard, which brought together Super Touring drivers from all over the world. Of course, the teams were mostly European and so were most of the drivers. There were three elements to the World Cup, in effect; the drivers' part (won by Paul Radisich in 1993 and '94 and Frank Biela in '95), the manufacturers' part, and the nations' part, because points were also calculated for national teams. Some drivers weren't nominated by their national federations, and so weren't eligible to score points for the latter element.

The event at Monza was calculated on the basis of two heats, both won by Radisich. The racing itself was extremely rough and a lot of cars were eliminated or delayed by accidents. At Donington, there was only one race, but the first attempt at a start was aborted after a big shunt off the startline in the middle of the pack. It was a shame for John Cleland as he'd gone from fourth on the grid to first by the time the cars reached Redgate. At the second start, he was well-placed, but he and Emanuele Pirro's Audi were taken out by a ridiculous move by Gabriele Tarquini at the end of the first lap. Radisich was never headed and won a largely boring race. I didn't see the Paul Ricard races, so can't comment on them.

Nearly forgot to mention that the best thing about the 1994 World Cup at Donington was the TOCA Shoot-out that followed. The grid was fantastic, and there was some very hard racing. They were going three or four-abreast into corners at times — at one point, Radisich lost out to three Cavaliers at once at Goddards, but he still came through to win. The privateer Vauxhall driver Nigel Smith had a great race, battling with the works cars, until damage forced him out; Jeff Allam drove very well, leading for a long time and then just fending off Cleland and Reid to hold second place; the only disappointment was Tarquini, who didn't make good progress from the back and then retired with a broken windscreen after contact with Tiff Needell. In short, it was the race the World Cup should have been!
