The #88 goes to Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car with Travis Kvapil possibly getting the #28 at Yates.

It would be cool if Dale Jr got to use the #88.....

But the #88 should have been given to a Dale with the last name of Jarrett, not Earnhardt.

I suppose the 88 is the most logical choice, though to me it will always say "Dale Jarrett." In time we'll get used to it, after Jarrett is retired and Junior is winning championships in it ;)

As far as it being the "end of the world," to some it might be...imagine all the merchandise that just went from being "hot" to "not." It really is the commercial coming true :D

And how may folks don't know who you're talking about when you say #8? :burnout:

I suspect that Dale Jarrett wouldn't mind.

I always think of #88 as the Audi R8 that finished 2nd at Lemans in 2004 :p :

Buried in here is a comment that Yates needs sponsors for both his cars. I knew the #88 deal was just for this year, but supposedly the M&Ms deal on #38 was through '08. Anyone hear anything about this?

C'mon Harv, you know that Joonyer was only thinking of the fans of his that have No. 8 tatoos. Now it's an easy conversion for them (no thinking involved). :D

ok.. really bored at work and i was going through jayski's collection of paint schemes and came across this:

http://www.jayski.com/schemes/2006/61cup.htm

go down until you get to the 2006 daytona 500 car. with amp sponsorship(2nd to last one).

what ya think about it?

since amp is supposed to be dale jr's new sponsor and all..

thanks to jayski (if i'm not supposed to link directly to the page, can someone help me out about how i'm supposed to show it? Thanks)

sorry if in wrong forum and/or posted already, new here

I keep hearing it is Coors coming over to the Hendrick/Earnhardt effort. I have no idea who AMP drinks are, but I guess sponsoring Jr. would be the best way of educating people who they are....

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

more Jooyner talk, its bad enough he's spending soooooooooo much time picking a number

:s nore:

plus its a livery, not a paint scheme, teams rarely use paint anymore on special schemes and even primary schemes

How ironic would it be if the Pepsico product on DE jr's car was....."Jeff Gordon Energy Drink"! ;-)

Actually now that I think of it, if Pepsico going to spend the better part of $20mil a year on him why not a DE jr drink?

SPEED will interrupt regular programming Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:30pm/et to present a live press conference with Dale Earnhardt Jr. from Dallas. Anchored by SPEED's Steve Byrnes from the network's Charlotte studio, Earnhardt is expected to disclose additional information about his racing plans in 2008 with Hendrick Motorsports, including his sponsor and car number. At the conclusion of the press conference, SPEED will return to regular programming in progress

Well, he is gonna run 88 and be sponsored by Mountain Dew (and Amp), as well as National Guard.

If I was still a teenager, this would have been the best sponsorship ever, I lived on MD.

"The New Paint schemes look terrible."

Agreed. When you are trying to have three co-primary sponsors on one car it just doesn't work.

I have to admit the colors are kind of plain looking & the overall theme unappealing ...
however I am pleased that Dale Jr got the #88. :D

Well, from what I read, Junior designed the schemes himself, so if there's anyone to blame for the ass ugly design, it's him. At first I found it to be all right but then I looked at it more and realized that the numbers look completely odd and the colors look just weird with how it's laid out.

I'm not thrilled with the car designs but nothing looks appealing on that fugly COT car.

AM I the only one who likes the color scheme?Hate to say it HArv,but your boys color scheme with that damned yellow is gawd awful.

harvick#1
20th September 2007, 07:53
don't be hatin the yellow-red color combo :p :

but that car could be better too, but its tough to do better when he had the best livery from 2003-2006 with the Goodwrench colors.

its seems today that the liverys are getting duller and duller with sometimes a two-tone livery. No one really has a creative side anymore

jonny hurlock

the problem aswell, is the shape of the chevy impala ss, if it was monte carlo car it could be looking a bit better, however, I do agree the both liveries are kind of poor.

I think that by the time the #88 hits the tracks next year HMS will have tweaked the color theme. :D

If you look at the #5, #24 & #48 the color themes are very bright & good looking .....
surely the most popular driver will have a nice looking color theme .....
a short time-frame was an issue in displaying the #88 cars, they will look better in 2008 imo. :D

FYI- 88 was Ralph Earnhart's number, Yates let Jr use it because of the history of the number........

Sparky1329

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s grandfather Ralph Earnhardt drove a No. 88 Petty Enterprises Oldsmobile 88 in the 1957 Virginia 500 at Martinville (Va.) Speedway. Ralph Earnhardt started ninth and finished 13th in the Grand National division (what is now the Nextel Cup Series) race that was won by Buck Baker. Ralph Earnhardt also ran a car numbered 188 for seven races that year for Petty.

The Earnhardt family used several different numbers over the years. Robert Gee, Jr's maternal grandfather, actually held the rights to the #8 that Ralph Earnhardt is famous for driving. He also drove car #5 in one race in 1961.
