Will they ever make WRC 1979 to 1984?

Its possible to make a 'non-official' set of WRC rallies prior to 1985, as alot of the rallies were filmed by BHP and video's sold seperatly.

However not every rally was covered of course. Various one's were also shown on TV, along with some of the British Open Championship rallies.

I got the 1985 and 1997 DVDs yesterday, Duke are doing some Monte-Carlo and RAC DVDs from the 1980's and WRC 1999 and 2000.

I started collecting around 2 years back. So most of the 2005,2006 and 2007 seasons are there. Then some misc titles too, like Evolution of rallying, Driver specials, HD episodes of the Rally America, all episodes of Engineering the World Rally(Discovery) etc etc.. Too much footage, :D
I think i have around 35-40 DVDs worth of rally footage. No time to see'em again. See once and archive. Thats the rule :cool:

In fact, all British Open Championship rounds between 1980 and 1989 were shown on TV - on ITV from 1980-85, and the BBC thereafter.

My copy of 98 is on back order with Play for just over a tenner! Got 97 for the same price but it has been a bit of a wait however having sold my vhs versions for £80 I can wait!

Yeah and loads on youtube on the WRC channel but not in dvd quality and full stages usually. 2008 dvd had nothing extra so pretty useless then.

Why would i buy a dvd with 10min review of each rally when i have all the eurosport broadcasts hehe. It says bonus footage so hopefully there is.
I just got an email from Amazon telling me about the 2009 British Rally Championship review DVD. When I checked out the link, under related items was the 2009 World Rally Championship review DVD which I noticed was a 2 disc set. As there was no description about the DVD on Amazon I headed over to Duke's website. On the description page there it says the running time is 420 minutes. That's 7 hours! Unless there is A LOT of bonus content, it seems there will be more than 10 minutes per event. Could it be that they've finally put some effort in and made a comprehensive review of the season?

I'm dreaming of on-demand WRC onboard library... All onboards available. Sometime when I'd feel the need, the need for speed, I would select a rally and the crew. Then getting out my popcorn and other stuff accompanied with good drinks. Hearing all those conversations during abnormal moments, maybe a possibility for a splitscreen between two crews, seeing telemetry, etc. etc. :cool:

Perhaps it's Play's error? Amazon's price is about the same, so perhaps I should order it from there.

Original run time for the 08 IRC review was 135 minutes and it turned out at roughly 30 minutes so anything could happen!

The WRC review has always been much shorter than the Formula 1 ones which routinely run to 4 hours or so....

Has anyone seen this Carlos Sainz dvd? Any good? It'd be interesting to see some of his early stuff. I saw him in 1000 Lakes in late 80s (was it 1988 when he battered his Celica in odd shapes and forms), but being such a kid of course I didn't have the same approach to view his driving as I would have now.

Also, the special feature of 1000 Lakes 1990 - how long is it? Is it more than what's on 1990 World Rally Championship review dvd?

Just a quick question.

Does anyone on here have the RAC Rally 1992 review DVD that Duke released?

The reason I asked was because I got a copy yesterday and for the whole review the audio is out of synch with the pictures by close to ten seconds! So the engine noises dont match up and interviews are starting before you even see the driver. It's like watching a Eurosport live broadcast lol!

It's horrible and pretty unwatchable. I've complained to Duke but wondered if anyone else had had this problem? Don't want to buy another copy only to have the same problem...

The original 2002 review was not done by Duke. It looks like they've since done their own.

As I recall, the original had production quality issues such as the audio not being correctly synchronised on the bonus in-car content. Maybe that was fixed. According to the Duke website pages the running time of the new one is longer too, so maybe they improved the coverage for each round. If Duke have plans for a decade box set it would make sense to produce their own.

Well, the original WRC 2002 (not Duke's), was 1 1/2 houres, the WRC 2004 review (not Dukes) was less than an hour for the main programme, and that was with 2 more events than 2002! :eek:

They could really do with improving that!

WRC 2004 review DVD is probably the worst rally DVD ever IMO. And when I got the WRC 2003 DVD many years ago (my first ever DVD!), I was shocked about how short the total programme went on for.

But it does include Petter Solberg's in-car on Ouninpohja, setting the fastest time ever there, so IMO it's worth the money for that alone (you can find that DVD for about €5...). Concerning the year review, yes, it is definitely not done properly.

It is kind of two different things: Of course onboards won't show the story how the season went as they are bonusses - and as such they are great. I like watching onboards from YouTube, but it ain't the same as watching them on a decent sized television with good quality.

I bought Castrol Classics from Smoke And Rubber via eBay and received it a few weeks ago. I bought it together with British Championship Greatest Years 1972-2000. I contacted the seller beforehand and asked for other postage options and they agreed to send without courier service. It arrived to me in a registered letter with half the original postage price. Me happy.

But to the real deal. Castrol Classics are Classics. Really a great deal for that money (or more). From Finnish point of view there was a lot to watch with two of the films concentrating on 1000 Lakes - 1968 edition being a great historic rally adventure where as the 1984 edition was spectacular with Quattros, 037s and Vatanen's sole 205 T16. My other favourites got the be film from 1983 Corsica, 1981 Acropolis and 1982 Sweden. Of course the 70s films were good also, but the sound of Quattro alone and the drama the film makers create from the service area, brilliant.

Rallying was not a walk in the park those days, yet it still were more relaxed than today. Only if films like these could be made from today's rallying. It would be possible but are there anyone to do them?

Now I'm starting with the British championship lessons. Bring on the Mk2 Escorts!

Being here in America, and just getting into WRC over the last couple of years, I have utilized the internet to its most and have been able to avail myself of an almost limitless amount of WRC material. One treasure in particular is all of the FIA WRC year end reviews from 1982 through 2008 which has been a special treat to watch time after time. Tonight, I once again immersed myself in Petter Solberg goodness by watching the 2003 WRC season review and I have to say, Petter has more passion for what he does than any other sports personality that I can think of. What a pleasure to watch his reaction at stage end after winning the championship, a true antithesis to Carlos Sainz's agony in 1998! I'd be glad to share this windfall with anyone if someone has a way to accept an almost 40G download. If this is inappropriate, I apologize and I'm sure the moderators will take the any action necessary. Cheers to all you WRC fans and I can onlt imagine what the next 5 years will bring us!

Some might thought that a bargain like I did. That DVD should also include a full review of 1990's 1000 Lakes, one of Sainz's most famous wins.

Also, managed to unwrap the WRC season review 2010 the other day. Fortunately it follows the formula of 2009 season review, namely being over 7 hours long. Bonus features are lame though. Only if we could get such proper DVD reviews of early 2000s as well.
