How many of each of them were made?

I don't think it's possible to answer that question..

I'm sure there are some databases about how many WRCars of each make were made. At least from the Focus and the Xsara. Don't know how many were needed for homologation, but it was quite a lot. Let alone more then a handfull beeing destroyed.

The Evo 4, 5 and 6 were not WRCars. The Evo 6.5 was allowed some concessions over the true Group A Evo 6 but was still not a true WRCar.

What does S44 mean?

If I recall correctly, the rules say that under the sub-catagory of GpA the MFG could choose any model which was produced in a series of minimum 25,000 in one year and make 25 kits of parts.

It is this extremely low volume which drives the costs so high, and which means 99.95% of us will never sit in a World rally Car, much less drive one.

Shame they are following the low numbers trend with the newer S2000 things.
Cause when the requirements were 5000 models in the original Group A and N, the man on the street of average means might one day be able to afford one of the base cars the WRC cars were built on.
I my self have a 4x4 Cosworth Ford but I would never be able to afford just the driveshafts of a WRC Focus.

But it's all about watching the spectacle, not participation, so all's well.

i'm sure Ford would sell you a broken driveshaft :) Nice car btw

There was 31 Xsara`s WRC. Take a look at my site (Xsara WRC/notes).
As for C4 WRC, I think there are at least 10 cars for now.

Thanks, I just love the fact that not only can I afford to buy and rebuild the motor and box and everything, but it all bolts right into the US XR4Ti shells, same thing but stiffer and reinforced as the old UK XR4i.
And not olnly can i get the parts---more importantly I can get the information.
Ford did publish hundreds and hundreds of pages of clear, detail usefull information between 1987 with the 3 door Cossie all the way thru the 1997 World rally Car version of the Escort.

With the current stuff we rarely ever see a single technical shot with any detail.
Amazing how seldom we can see anything useful.

yep. Very much a behind closed doors thing :( my girlfriend has a 94 Legacy Turbo. Just something about those early 90's group a cars that endears me to them more than modern cars.

If I do count well, Ford built about 77 Focus WRCars (1999-until now).

Here here, totally agree, though even the first WRCars were interesting. Wish we could go back to those type of cars, but eh, not going to happen.

Im under the impression that Group A was expensive for manufacturers, though it benefitted rally fans with the promise of driving a car that was vaguely similar to the competition versions. The reverse is true for WRCcars and the S2000 category. (?)

A post made in another thread recentley said that the Peugot 206 could no longer be used in a WRC event, how many WRC cars cannot be used in that way now because the homoligation has expired?

What happens when homologation is finished? In Estonia they ar running in class E10. These are the cars with expired homologation.

When homologation is expired cars cannot compete anymore in FIA international competitions. National homologations can be provided though
