Newly crowned County Saab Scottish champion Gary Adam is top seed for next Saturday's Merrick Forest Stages Rally in south-west Scotland.

Although Gary secured the title on last month's Gleaner Oil & Gas Speyside Stages, there is still a lot at stake as SRC competitors head for the penultimate round in Newton Stewart on September 8th - including GpN honours.

More than 70 entries have been received so far for the event...which also counts as rounds of the Ecosse 205 Challenge, as well as the Beatsons Border and Palmerston Furniture Five of Clubs championships.

Details of the provisional seeded entry list can be found at http://www.merrickstages.co.uk

Meanwhile, a purpose-built service area for the "Merrick" has been opened by Scottish Environment Minister Michael Russell.

The facility, near the famed Glentrool Forest complex, has been fashioned from a former civil engineering depot.

It provides around 11,000 square metres of parking space, with improved access, and a one-way system to allow for the safe arrival and departure of cars.

Mr Russell praised the rally organisers, Forestry Commission Scotland, and the local council for their investment in the project.

He said it provided a great opportunity to draw people in, and help with the regeneration of Glentrool and surrounding area.

Merrick Rally Manager Allan Marshall said it was hoped the facility would also provide a base for the annual Lombard Revival Rally when it visits Dumfries and Galloway.

Away from rallying, the site will be available for a host of outdoor events -from orienteering to mountain biking.

Hopefully Andy Horne will get his problems over and hopefully get a finish if not a win

Nice to see my local rally very well supported after ANCRO drop it out of there series,it makes all the organizers hard work worth it,there should be some very good battles,Adam,Horne,Dougan and the dark horse for victory, young Bogie, but the best battle of all will be Banner and Mackenzie and don't count out Allan McDowall in the Kaddet
