View Full Version : The racer69 TRD3 DTM Championship Round 8 - Norisring

johnny shell
29th August 2007, 21:53
Always one of the best parties of the year, the DTM cars head to Nuremburg next. Jon Brown blew the field away here last year, winning by over 16 seconds, and has been on a hot streek lately. Peter Vuko has finished 2nd here the last two years in a row.

The unknown factor of course are the two speedy Poles, who have never run here.... but Piotr Borkowski has won 4 times in the last 5 races. And let's not forget Real Illusions who has been running at the tail end of the lead pack lately!

Race Details

25 Laps
Hard Difficulty
Simulation mode
No cheats like Turbo etc.... to be used
Driving Standards & Corner Cutting to be turned off, but the usual forum rules of 'two wheels on track at all times' (unless you spin off or whatever) must be adhered to.

Join Team AMG. I have just raced my first race, but could look for some help or give it.

Ill probs use the Opel - lovely car :) I test-drove the AMG, and though "never again" lol, just the handling seemed so different fro m the audi and the opel.

yeah, I know what you're saying about the M-B. that's why I made the switch to Opel. Caught a lot of flack for it though - seems the MB drivers get a lot of 'perks'.

but I'm no sell-out! I race for fun, not so I can hang out in the coolest motorhomes & get access to cool street cars & stuff.

but there's no doubt that the really fast guys get some great times out of that hard to tame German beast!

Sell out! Sell out! I was told by the head of DTM for MB that if you had stayed, you'd had gotten this lovely Monaco suit overlooking the bay. The motorhomes are the best. The F1 team is getting a new one by September and we get the one they had. We get great company cars and the like.

Hard to tame? What are you taking about. The CLK is the best car in the whole grid. Great acceleration, great corning, great braking. Plus the car looks great when a grid girl is spread over the hood.

Pawprint, come to Mercedes Benz!? You get great engineering help from the other drivers, and you get great help on the track(we can't comment on that though).

well the times are coming in for this round!

so far CCfanatic, Penske_ALMS, real_illusions, pawprint, and Jon Brown have submitted times... with many more still expected.

Should be a great turn out this round, with so many new comers making the trip to this festive German town!

JB and real_ill seem to be fast around this circuit, and among the new comers Penske_ALMS is leading the way.

Look for more updates through out this final weekend of action at this year's stop at Norisring.

Come Monday morning the circuit here at these former Nazi party rally grounds gets turned back into public roads.

Once that happens turning a competitive laps is highly discouraged, as it becomes colassally more difficult and dangerous.

johnny shell
7th September 2007, 15:47
so how are you liking the transition to pavement racing, Iain?

and for some great pics of the action this weekend check out real illusions web site at http://www.surrealillusions.co.uk/galleries/QuickGal.php?album=DTM+2005+-+Practise/ !!

This circuit is one of my favourites. Plus the city itself is a great place to go. I plan to go back there in 2008 for the DTM, as well as Zandvoort and Brands Hatch.

Its very tricky though to keep your concentration for 25 laps here.

:)

Any takes on tire hardness for 25 laps?

Is a pit stop necessary at 100%?

johnny shell
7th September 2007, 17:02
no stop needed. just guessing based on my 15 lap run, but with 80% you should be good to go. I could be totally off though.

*lie mode on*

Yes you do need to stop, several times in fact. Every 3 laps i think to make the tyres last. And then again you have to drive very carefully, like Miss Daisy out on a sunday shopping drive in a robin reliant..

*lie mode off*

hope that helps ;)

likewise, I find it feels very uncomfortable to purposely brake my car loose so that I can fish-tale through the corners when I'm racing on that loose stuff!

Round 11 - Nurburgring Short -> October 29 to November 4
Round 12 - Hockenheim GP -> November 19 to November 25

we've already run some awesome tracks
Round 1 - Nurburgring Short -> March 26 to April 1
Round 2 - Oschersleben -> April 16 to April 22
Round 3 - Zandvoort -> May 7 to May 13
Round 4 - Brno -> May 28 to June 3
Round 5 - Eurospeedway -> June 18 to June 24
Round 6 - Hockenheim GP -> July 9 to July 15
Round 7 - Spa -> August 7th to August 17th

and the Aussie V8 cars still have Bathurst & Donington to go!

Pawprint
7th September 2007, 20:03
Ah, some good tracks, then. Glad I missed Spa, but shame about Brno.

I cant drive Aussi V8's - its just impossible to race without getting spun.

johnny shell
7th September 2007, 20:12
that's funny. I find the V8's much more drivable that the DTM's.

well, until I switched to my opel anyway :D

Pretty happy with the Merc at Norisring. Only had time for one practice,qualifying session & then the race.Did it all in less than 30mins.I was able to get through traffic very well on this track - it did not affect my times at all. Hoping for a podium but I think J.B is very quick here, not to mention Piotr!

PiotrB
9th September 2007, 21:25
I think that this round will be hard for me. I'm happy with my qualifying time but race was not so good. Traffic has affect on my lap times but I was going quite fast in "clean track". So I hope that I can get another podium.

ran my race saturday morning, after going out 'till late friday night. NOT a good idea!

I could run low 40 second laps, but I was having a real hard time getting in the zone and ran a lot of 41s instead, even some 42s. then my transmission starting slipping & changing gears on it's own.

Looks like all the times are in!

and it looks unofficially like Piotr B may have the winning time!

He has a full 9 second lead over a very tight battle for second between JB, Vuko, & Sloma.... those three are seperated by only three seconds.

also finishing in the points it looks to be myself, tannat, & Penske_ALMS.

With four rounds to go that race for second should be phenomenal! Vuko is only 4 points behind young hot shot Jon Brown, but Vuko has out paced JB at 3 out of these last 4 circuits.

Drivers Championship (After Round 8)

1. Piotr Borkowski -> 71 pts
2. Jon Brown -> 57
3. Peter Vuko -> 53
4. real_illusions -> 38
5. BobZee -> 17
6. Johnny Shell -> 15
7. Homer -> 14
~ Tannat -> 14
9. Sloma ->12
10. racer69 -> 8
11.Penske_ALMS -> 5
12.Steven Vuko -> 2
~ Harvick#1 -> 2
14.jso1985 -> 1

and Adam Sloma is rising fast & should be able to secure a top 5 finish in the points as long as his PC & internet connection hold out - with a little help from Bob Zee that is.

Manufacturers Championship (After Round 8)

1. Mercedes Benz -> 78pts
2. Audi -> 28
3. Opel -> 17

DTM Qualifying Kings (After 9 sessions)

1. Piotr Borkowski -> 24 pts
2. Jon Brown -> 13
3. Peter Vuko -> 11
4. Adam Sloma -> 2

Happy with 3rd spot, considering I only spent 30 mins on the whole event! I might have to try & peg back J.B for 2nd spot in the series but I'm not getting enough time to really give it my best. Apart form the chicane I take the other corners completely different to you. You seem to swing the car in to the hairpins. I usually brake in a straight line then turn and power around the corner.

Automatic gears doesn't make much difference around Norisring. I won last years round there using an auto :)

Adam has a really original driving style. I also brake in a straight line with cornering just before the corner. I'd like to brake with cornering so I don't like too strong front brakes. I also driving very smooth because I don't like to slide too much.
