Alternatively, there is the world's finest historic motor sport event at Goodwood, The Goodwood Revival, taking place this weekend 31/8 - 2/9.

Admission is by advance ticket only see: Goodwood Revival 2007 (http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/)

Bit expensive for me old chap, 25 smackers just for friday with no grandstand access is not good value in my book. Guess I've been spoilt too much by Rockingham.

It seems a lot of dollar but actually its fantastically cheap for what you get, hard to say but it knocks the Rock for six for a days entertainment.

My interest in classics only encompasses Rootes vehicles, will there be lots?

Otherwise I confess I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to classic motors and I don't think I'd get all that much enjoyment out of it to be honest.

You've obviously never seen what races at the Revival then!

http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/intro/races.htm

Not many Morris 1000's there.

A lot of lovely old racing cars doing what they were designed to do - race, and some of them get raced HARD, even if the auctioneers get their valuers putting seven figure numbers on them!

The Brooklands Trophy is amazing!

The St Mary's Trophy for saloon cars is great too. You get Austin A35's buzzing around big American beasties like Galaxie 500's! And yes Nick, there be Rootes Groups stuff there - Hillaman Imps, and Sunbeam Rapiers.

It's a great event. And they like it if you dress in period clothing. BARC member can use the member's enclosure (if you're dressed properly)

Rob.

My Mk2 Mini Cooper is just a handful of years too young to make it to Goodwood - maybe somewhere down the line... ;-)

It's one of these meetings that you have to try just the once in your lifetime though. I grew up with classic cars - mainly Rootes Group for that matter, and I absolutely adore watching any sort of clasic racing, whether at Goodwood or a clubby at Snet. The difference mainly is in the price tag...

BTW dad had both a Hillman Super Minx estate and a Sunbeam Alpine Series V, while mum had a very early Citroen Dyane 6.

There is, what appears to be, a dissused runway adjacent to the track. What a great place to build a 1/2 mile oval!
I understand that there is a prison next door therefore possible cheap labour?
