As far as I know, 1/32 model cars build by Saico are very poor, more or less like a bad done Cararama; 1/43 scale cars I don't know how do they look like, I've never got one on my hand, but for the pics that I've seen on eBay they are quite poor, but by now is the only one that has build the Focus WRC'06 Stobart

Saico is now Burago as far as I'm aware. They are price point models and therefore you get what you pay for.....

And a question to all since I just went back and noticed that the latest IXO Ford Focus - 2005 Higgins/Thomas-Rallye Italia has Pirelli sponsorship, but Michelin tires. Did the Chinese get it wrong on the assembly of all the models? Or was the car really like that during the rally?

As it's my first Abrex modelcar, and maybe the first presented here in this forum, I have done a little comparision to the Ixo one.

The front part, in my opinion, is more likely to the real one in the Abrex modelcar. But the general lines are better in the Ixo one

Having a look to these models by the rear part, we can see that the grey paint from the Abrex is better than the one used on the Ixo. But the spoiler from the Abrex... Not good

Now, in this view we can see the rear windows, in the Abrex one there's no the black line that it should be, and also there are no anthens on the top. The camera and the air entrance on the top is also to easy. The wheel's details are omitted in the Abrex one.

So my conclusion is that the car is quite poor, but the price (20 euros) is quite cheap, so I'm satisfied with my purchase, even when the wheels are not right

Thanks too for the reference pic. Can't tell the tire manufacturer since the decals/paint are gone from the tires, but this shot does point out some of inconsistencies between IXO's reproduction and the actual race car.

Well, you're right, some details are different as the spoiler or the bumper but in fact, more or less is the same car. I just tried to help somebody if he was thinking about buying one Abrex's Škoda.

Im more into creating 1/43 models myself.I only have 9 bought die cast models.I basically take a cheap car model(mostly from Bburago) and I change it completelly.I cover the car with white stickers and,if needed,I do some changes to the body.Then I paint it.
And it turns out pretty nice.
I have been doing that my whole life.Its my hobby.I mostly do cars from the central european national championships or from the ERC,because those are the cars i see in action.I will post some pictues tomorrow.

Just one thing, last sunday I posted very fast the info that one collegue passed me and I did'nt confirm the data. Yesterday, when I tried to confirm it, I saw that it was a mistake in the info, the Škoda from Kleinjan, is not an Abrex model, is a transkit built on an Abrex model. Sorry, I was so happy...

Sunstar are nice models for the money, a bit cruder than the competition but as neither Autoart or Minichamps seem in a hurry to release a current shape Focus then it's down to personal choice.

Just taken delivery of the latest Ixo releases, and I'm very pleased with them! :D

RAM229, the Škoda Fabia WRC of Duval from Germany '06 is in a new style of box. The base is angled slightly so that the car will look better on display, and the clear plastic lid has curved edges and seems much stronger. Hopefully fewer cracked lids! The cardboard box/sleeve has also been updated. The inside is now all black and has "ixo" rather than "RALLY" on the insert, I guess so they can use the same for all models. The ixo logo and web address are now in a nice silver instead of yellow.

RAM284, the Fiat Punto S2000 of Duval from Condroz '07 is a limited edition of 2,200 pieces. It's presented in the same style of box as the 2006 WRC Champion Xsara of Loeb/Elena that was released last year. The car itself looks great and is very well detailed, but then it has to be as there are pictures of the real thing all over the box!

Sunstar are good for their money, though you have to be careful as they do have the odd error.

The 1:18 Loeb Xsara from 2004 Rally Australia has Australia spelt "AUSYRALIA" on the rally sticker.

When choosing models, I like to pick the driver and to a specail event.
For exampled, I have 1:43 Atkinson for Rally New Zealand 2005, as that is where he got his first stage win.
Petter - 1:18 Rally Japan, first winner of the event; Seb - 1:18 Corsica 2004 where he won his first championship.
I want a Mikko from Rally Australia 2006 1:18 - his first win and because I was there.

If you look harder there's a buyit now from a reputable UK seller at £9.99! I always thought Minichamps did a better Focus but the Skid one is ok.

Skid models were part of the original Vitesse range that went tits up. The new Vitesse range has driver figures and engine detail and havent really taken off.

Patience is a virtue. I'm really fatalistic about models in that if I dont want to pay a stupid price I wait as one usually comes along in the end. Did this with my Minichamps RS200. Saw the rally version going for £100+ so waited and got the rally version and the white road car in one hit for quite a bit less. Just trying to get hold of a Vitesse Raya 306 Maxi now as the recent Ixo release just isnt quite as good!

The Escort won a lot of titles so that will keep them busy for a while. :D After that they can start with their Quattro moulds, Sierra/Sapphire, Celica and by then they'll have covered 1971-1990 with just four cars missing.

As you may know I sell/trade model rally cars but am not going to advertise here as that is not allowed!!

All I can say is that the Punto looks spot on as you would expect with Ixo getting full access to the Auotmeca run car of Duval and so would happily recommend it to other collectors. The seating position is accurate and the livery well executed and the presentation box is superb. Ixo are planning to do a Navarra car from last year and also a Portugese version aswell as the original ERG sponsored Abarth car so there will be plenty of liveries to choose from.

I'm always a bit suspicious about boxed sets as see it often as a way of manufacturers creaming more money out of collectors as appeared to happen with the slot car manufacturers. As these sets will no doubt be sold by the teams on events and given away to corportate guests I can understand the them doing it but it would be nice to see previously unmodelled liveries etc being used.

I expected more from this car, some proportions I think that they are not quite good realised


Somehow between the prototype shots and the model being released it seems to have put on some bulk and lost it overall shape. Ebbro made a better job of the car but probably wont do a rally version.

Spark's Nissan 200SX though is very good as you can see.

and got GD Models to make me a luton type back for it, plus a trailer
Just give the box section a first coat of blue and sat it on the chassis to see what its like

Prodrive Question.......the UK Importer of IXO , is also the importer for the IXO produced Aston Martin, BP Ford models, SWRT models, but they are not that up on motorsport ! They sent a email out to dealers and it was titled Prodrive BP Ford Abu Dabi set, and if the dealers arent rallyfans too, it all gets a bit confusing !

Just recieved a delivery of IXO Subaru Impreza 555 RAC 1995 Colin McRae! Maybe not the best model of Gr.A Impreza out there, but I think it is above average for IXO.

I agree with you but considering Trofeu model costs more than twice as much as IXO one, I unfortunately had to consult my wallet before place my order and settled with IXO one :(

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to ask my question, but now I am building my first rally model (Toyota Corolla) but I have some problems with the labels (or whatever it is called). They are the ones which need water. But I am not sure how to do it. I tried but something is wrong. I just don't know how to do it. Can anyone helps me on this. I will be very grateful.

I normally use a small shallow bowl of water, and place the decal/sticker thing in it for 5 secs.
I then use a paintbrush to pick the decal up, with the decal tip on the brush tip, and place it where I want it.
Use another tool (finger?) to hold the decal on, and use the brush to flatten and smooth.
