I'm looking for a flat screen TV to mount on the wall at the end of my bed. I've been told not to bother too much about getting an HD TV as they're near on useless for the moment as barely any channels are on HD.

What i am looking for is integrated freeview and a PC link so i can run my laptop on to the screen.

I have to bare in mind though it's going on a 'new build' house, ie paper walls as i call them, just the plasterboard things so it can't be too heavy. Are the screen sizes width or diagnal from corner to corner? For around £200 the best i've found are about 19-21". Anyone know of any better deals? I've searched Dixons, Bennetts and dare i say it even Argos.... :s

You've looked in probably the three most expensive chains in the UK, two of which have terrible customer service!

If you wanted a bigger screen you'd have more choice, there's not a massive market for smaller sizes. Even a plasterboard wall will have a sturdy wooden frame, so if you can drill into that you needn't worry so much about weight.

You'll increase your chances if you don't want Freeview integrated and can accept a seperate box - even though some parts of the UK are only months away from switchover not many manufacturers are up to speed.

What about something like this (http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PHIL-23PF5321) from Richer Sounds? 23" Philips widescreen LCD with PC input, £249. No Freeview, but a seperate box will cost you £20.

Avoid those generic crappy 32" LCDs you see for £300-£350 in every single supermarket (and Wharfdale branded at Argos) - an apparent bargain for the size but terrible build quality and picture.

I hate to recommend other forums, but the Home Entertainment Equipment forum (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19) of Digital Spy is populated by some pretty knowledgeable people. And some idiotic fanboys....

There's no reason NOT to have a HDTV though :) You'll get crap resolution with your laptop on the screen if you don't buy a HDTV. I've used a PC on a 480p (Standard Def) tv and it's horrible and somewhat pointless. For an illustration turn the resolution down to 640*480 if it'll let you or as low as it'll go and see what you think. Not pretty is it? What sort of monitor connector is on your laptop? VGA or DVI?

Use a site like http://shopping.moneysupermarket.com/cl/2/TVs?a_4026=1 to find something you like and then use www.froogle.co.uk (http://www.froogle.co.uk) and search for the cheapest price on it :)

We're thinking about getting a HDTV sometime but I think we'll wait a bit. Saw a nice Samsung 1080p 37" TV for about 750 last night but it won't hurt to wait a little for prices to fall a little more :)

Big thumbs up to the one Dave posted form Richer sounds :)

Just find a wall stud and get drilling. Should be fine. :) Just don't give in when drilling, like I did this week and get some No More Nails instead, that would probably damage the TV in the long run. :p :
