Wow... Isn't that's amazing... what we have been waiting for several years. A young driver beating all champions in a direct fight, without any technical problems for anyone!

Gigi is driving pirelli's uh?

Bruno Portela
17th February 2007, 12:01
Galli is driving a great rally being faster than Stohl and Carlsson in similar cars. We can not forget that he has Pirelli tyres, which should be a great disavantage.

Look at J KOPECKY with that old Skoda!!!!!!

Yes he's !

Finni
17th February 2007, 12:02
I don't think it's 5 sec every driver ?! There is difference for early drivers, but Loeb Bosse Mikko are one after the other. Can't be that different since a lot of drivers has passed already.

Watch time differencies; almost every driver is faster than previous. When there ten cm snow it means that the road doesn't get clean all the time.

For instance watch Kopecky's time. it's in the same level with Garde, Solberg brothers etc.

Bruno Portela
17th February 2007, 12:03
The Pirelli's should be less developed than the BF Goodrich

Corny
17th February 2007, 12:04
I think Gigi does a perfect job, with a few-years old car, and Pirelli tyres..

Wilslow as fast as Gardemeister ??? IMPOSSIBLE !!!!

WRC2006
17th February 2007, 12:04
Heh, Petter has not been problems since early ss. Yesterday Loeb took risks and he would really want to win but his road-position is difficult compared to Bosse and especially Hirvonen - the track is faster after every driver.

I don't think that really there is a big effect of the road position between Mikko, Marcus and Loeb?

Wim_Impreza
17th February 2007, 12:05
Wow, Pons is now the first Mitsubishi driver.

Bruno Portela

Carlsson take care, Speedy Pons is coming :)

For me, together with Mikko , Pons is the man of the leg so far

Finni
17th February 2007, 12:06
I don't think that really there is a big effect of the road position between Mikko, Marcus and Loeb?

Not that big than early runners but certainly something. Look at Kopecky's time. He is matching Solberg brothers and half nearer to Loeb than usually.

Team Pirelli are still developing new tyres. I heard they have new type of tyres for Gigi in Sweden and think they brought over some more for NOR.

Bruno Portela

P G Andersoon faster than a couple of WRC

Tom206wrc
17th February 2007, 12:09
Pitty for Tord Linnerud he did fairly well until the last two splits where he lost many times(more than 3 minutes lost over Mikkelsen at the end) :(

An off perhaps ?? :mark:

Not that big than early runners but certainly something. Look at Kopecky's time. He is matching Solberg brothers and half nearer to Loeb than usually.

But Petter has already a problem with his Subaru, no brake,no traction. That is why. And I am impatient to hear about Loeb because he may have problem too? But for Petter I heard that.

But Petter has already a problem with his Subaru, no brake,no traction. That is why. And I am impatient to hear about Loeb because he may have problem too? But for Petter I heard that.

Loeb and Petter are not only benchmark I mentioned. You are assuming that Loeb has problems but there is no evidence about that. Rather there is evidences that first runner loose 2 min. fifth runner looses at least 30 extra sec... Follow the pattern.

WRC2006
17th February 2007, 12:16
Bosse: "It's ok (faster than Loeb) but we have to wait for Mikko (Hirvonen). I want to win you know."

I am wondering for a team order soon if the gap between Marcus and Loeb is still increasing after the next stage?! Hope this can't happen. Mikko deserve the victory.

possible yes, but you never know.

Be it as it may, the general rule is that all the guys are losing more than normally for drivers who are coming after in starting order. There no more huge effect between Loeb-Bosse-Mikko, but certainly few seconds at least.

Btw: Loeb's split times for previous ss are quite consistent.

thanks for the info, but the top drivers is coming quite late, also they are normaly running pretty much same line, by then the line is quite clean, there is offcourse a small difference, but if the time difference is 2-3 sec, it can be because of what ever.

There are two possibilities:

I suspect all members of this forum will be ready to kill Wilson if there're any team orders...

I think it is pretty clear there will be "team orders" - not official ones of course, but Hirvonen will just keep 90% speed for the rest of the rally and Bosse will pass him smoothly...probably Hirvonen will complain about "wrong tire choice" or something like that :)

But of course this is the rational thing to do...in fact - the only thing to do...

Tomi
17th February 2007, 13:13
i hope for freeze, but what ever the desition is, everyone knows Mikko won this by driving.

Finni
17th February 2007, 13:13
I don't thin that Wilson will give any team orders. He said that if Mikko can keep his driving together for the finnish it will be turning-point in Mikko's career. rather I suspect, if there was any order, it would be for marcus to calm down and let Mikko win.

Towards the beginning of the stage I just went a little bit deep in a left hand corner. And I think that put some snow into the air intake so my car lost about 100 horsepower. There was nothing I could do. It was a real struggle, so I just had to drive slowly to the end.

Time to upgrade the server now as we discover that Loeb is human after all and more people are attempted to follow the rally when Loeb is struggling or is out.

I didn't realise that Loeb is the star at this stage?

It seems the laptop guys have done it again. Just like Pentti said, everything that the Xsara was good at has been destroyed in the C4. Loeb is sitting too far from the dashboard and can't see the road. It maybe gives good handling, but if you can't see you go off and loose several minutes. I expect a lot more mistakes from Loeb this year.

Advice needed:
I'm thinking of going up to watch the rally tomorrow, leaving Oslo at about 6:30am, which should put me near lillehammer around 8:30-9amish. I've never been to a rally before and so I'm not sure where to go to watch. I was thinking I should go to watch SS16, will I be too late? and where is the best viewing spots? Perhaps this should be asked in a new thread ... any advice at all would be appreciated!

go in good time, so that you are on spot atleast 1hour before it starts, difficult to give advise where you should spectate, look some corner, and stay on the inside, so you dont get hit if someone goes off.

Loeb off again, out of contention
Norway : SS 13 - 27.31 km
[17/02/07 - 15:03]

Hirvonen and Ford dominating in Norway!

The penultimate stage of the second leg saw more drama for Championship leader Sebastien Loeb while the BP Ford World Rally Team continued to dominate.

Marcus Gronholm piped rally leader Mikko Hirvonen by three-tenths of a second to record the stage win with a time of 16:29.7. Gronholm, who now trails Hirvonen by 21 seconds made a small error as he missed a junction while Hirvonen himself lost a little time as well. “He is not so far away so we are still racing,” Hirvonen said of his battle with Gronholm. “Sebastien (Loeb) got back on the road just in front of us and we lost some seconds.”

Loeb was pushing hard once again in his Citroen C4 looking to make up as much time as he could on Juho Hanninen's (then) tenth position. Loeb of course lost eight minutes, and third position, after going off on SS12. Loeb however did not have a trouble-free run, going off once again five kilometres into the stage. The championship leader lost another some nine minutes and his hopes of points are now over.

“I went straight in the junction and went in the snow bank and I was stuck and lost eight minutes,” Loeb said of his last stage. “Then we tried hard for eighth (position and the final point) as we had nothing to lose and we lost again!”

The Petter, Henning Solberg battle over third position continued with the Stobart Ford driver narrowing the gap from 12.9 seconds to 9.3 seconds on the Subaru driver. Henning Solberg was third fastest on the stage just ahead of Petter while Toni Gardemeister set the fifth fastest time. “I try my best but I went off two times,” Henning Solberg said, “but I try, I do my best.”

Petter Solberg was just happy to finish the stage without losing too much time. “We have a problem with the car so it has been difficult. Luckily I did not lose more, but I am not getting the drive.”

Gigi Galli was sixth fastest and despite complaining of visibility problems, was able to pull seven seconds out of Manfred Stohl in the battle over sixth position. Jari-Matti Latvala was seventh fastest and remains in P5 overall. “I can't go any faster, the conditions are so difficult,” Latvala explained. “There is so much snow that has collected through the front of the car.”

Daniel Carlsson was just 11th fastest in his OMV Kronos Citroen and by his own admission was not driving particularly well on the stage. The result drops him out of the top eight with Xavier Pons taking the position in his Lancer WR05 with his tenth fastest time.

Another driver in trouble was Juho Haninen who started the stage in tenth position overall in his Lancer WR05 but would lose over three minutes after going off dropping to 13th position overall. “I was pushing very hard, but it was a very stupid mistake, very stupid.”

The drivers now head to the short 1.15km Hamar stage for the final stage of the second leg which begins at 15.10 CET.

Did you read the official WRC website?

Even the reporter there is wondering for the team order in Ford clan for tomorrow. Here is the extract in french version :

" ...the real thing is that the positions remain fixed like they are today, Mikko Hirvonen amply is deserving to hang its name on winner's list with a victory in this event. Let us hope for him, that in the optics of the championship standings - where we can think that Marcus will have more ease to defend his chances on all the grounds - Ford does not ask '' unofficially '' its pilots to exchange their positions......"

I was a bit surprised that it was not plowed on ss9 this morning, but to be honest, it was not that much snow there either. 2-4 cm max where I was. It was snowing so I think some of the drivers were complaining too much.
I would have preferred it to be plowed of course.

I really can't believe the organisers forgot to plow out of ignorance. Can it be a valid reason? Too many spectators entering the stage etc?
I don't know.
Maybe some info about this will come after the rally.

I heard Latvala on the radio when he said 20cm on the road. That was just BS. Maybe on ss11 in places the wind had driven the snow the last hour, but he said that long before that ss anyway.

Well: two points can mean everything. Look att Petter in 03 and Loeb in 06!

If Marcus had scored more points in Australia, or even had won, Loeb would have came back in action in Wales or even in New Zealand, to score the points needed for the title. So the -1 in 2006 is not quite the honest view. But sure, every point can count. Even Marcus could have an accident and then suddenly Hirvone wil be teamleader, and it would be same embarrising if he missed it by 2 points giving the win away in Norway.
Only in the second halve of the season teams can look at teamorders.

Its Brilliant to see Mikko leading, and from what i can gather, ford are either gonna let the guys race, or tell them to hold position and play it safe. I think team orders shouldn't be used, especially not so early in the season. What if Hirvonen emerges as the bigger threat to loeb and has given away points early on to his team "leader".

I hope Mikko carries this form through to mexico and gets a solid result there also. But i do feel that over the season length its gonna take some serious doing to stop Loeb and his new car.

Hehe, few years ago NZrally got a stage of 59 km.. (paparoa I think it was)
Loeb should've lost a lot of time there, the times he drove it :D

They used that stage in the National championship last year. Good viewing spots on it

But don't forget the long stage they had in the 2005 rally of Japan. I think it was stage 3 and 7:

Let's hope not, although I want Marcus to win to slow the bore that is Sebastian Loeb winning another championship. However I would like to see Mikko win as well because he has done a fantastic job!

Only time will tell!!!
