I don`t now if this is the case (probably other forumers can suplly the statistics), but did Mads Østberg set a new record in Rally Finland for being the first teenager and youngest ever points-scorer in a WRC event?

Anyway I`m mightily impressed by young Mads, who started his international career in october 2005, in the german championship Lausitz Rallye. He arrived in Germany with a few days old drivers licence, a week or so after reaching 18 years of age. So he is actually still a teenager, with very little WRC experience. In my mind his 8th place in Finland securing a world championship point, was one of the great revelations of the rally.

Mads Østberg is already this years norwegian champion (the youngest ever btw) after securing the title in Rally Trondelag in the end of june. He has won all six championship rallies this year in convincing style. But for him to score a WRC point in Finland was definitely much more than expected - and one of the events great achievements.

He must replace Petter in the prodrive team IMO! :s mokin:
The young Norway drivers did a great job in Finland, it was nice to see them driving. :)

Matthew Wilson was born 29/01-87 and tok his first point in Argentina last year. Mads Östberg was born 11/10-87 so that makes Wilson the youngest out of those two, don't think there has been anyone younger than that has it?

This is a great site for statistics http://www.juwra.com/

I think too good driving from both Østberg and Mikkelsen. I wonder what was wrong with Henning not even close the same attack as last year.

I can supply names of 450plus drivers that have scored at least one drivers' WRC point since 1979, here you go: http://www.juwra.com/driver_statistics_points.html

But who can supply their birthdates?

Remember... the brakes. Last year Henning had very bad brakes and had to slow down the pug by putting it sideways.

not that, he was kind of flegmatic all the event, not trying hard enough.

I won't probably take a long time before the old time record of Henri Toivonen will be beaten I reckon. Sordo still has a chance. Then there are Latvala, Östberg and Mikkelsen and I might be forgetting one or two. All have a chance to climb up to the top in the upcoming years and fight for some victory´s.

Anyway, good performance by Östberg. Not smashing great, but good.

Toivonen was 24 when he won his first rally i think it was so they have plenty of time to beat that record. Östberg was by the way 6th fastest car on saturday, faster than Pons.

I agree. Henning didn't seem to have the same attack as last year. Of course, now he didn't have same battle like last year with Gigi.

Ostberg drove a great rally even with the problems he had.

I think the WRC has a good future in terms of talent entering the sport at the moment with Ostberg, Mikkelsen etc.
Hopefully, we'll see the closeness between the young guns develop further in 2008!

Talking about young drivers i just whatched the mid-season review of ARC and there was a feature about Molly Taylor she looks to be a real talent, has she got what it takes to be the first girl in WRC?

Michèle Mouton winning four World Rally Championship rounds in the past suggests Molly was born several decades too late to be able to claim that accolade ;)

That makes Wilson older than Östberg.

Of course, but he was several months ahead of Östberg when he had his result in Argentina.

Not that I'm defending him too strongly... ;)

Her father runs a rally school & her mother is multiple Australian champion co-driver & is currently in the works Toyota S2000 with Neal Bates.

If anyone has been born with the genes for this, it is Molly. She has impressed an immense amount of people with her skill this year. Hopefully there will be a good 4WD car for her next year.

There are big hopes for her.

Also the next propect from here is Brendan Reeves, only 18 years old & was third in his first drive in a 4WD car. He is being groomed for a PCWRC or JWRC campaign in 2008.
