I am curious how the Impreza WRC (and other air-restricted WRC cars, for that matter) makes the best of a torque curve that is very high at 2000 - 3000 rpm and declines rapdily from 4000-7000.

Anyone know what gear ratios are used in the six speed sequential tranny? What final drive ratio?

What is the usual range of rpm these cars are driven at "in anger"?

From the incar footage I have seen, drivers keep the car between 3000 and 6000 rpm, and aiming more for 4000 to 5500 rpm.

As for the rest of your question, I dont know.

Response I received from SWRT:
Normal shift point for best straight-line acceleration is around 6000rpm which means revs are mainly between 4500rpm and 6000rpm. However the engine has very strong torque and response at very low revs which makes it usable from at least 2000rpm out of corners
