I'm tipping the McLarens to win this one - and I get the feeling that it might spell the end of Kimi's 2007 WDC campaign.

Thoughts and predictions for the race?

I'm tipping Ferrari one/two, and my pickems are there for all to see.

its an interesting track with lots of technical corners and undulations. Lewis made a bit of a hash here last year but fought well in the race so should have a good understanding of the circuit. there is also a lot of pressure at the top between Alonso and Lewis which will be interesting to see how the young gun handles it and whether Freddie can avoid taking them both off at the start :D

I expect Ferrari to be very strong but have a funny feeling that Lewis is going to pull something out of the bag.

Getting into that first corner first is what this race could be all about and we know how hard Freddie will commit to that. with the needle with Massa and the furore over these docs, I think we might just see some wheel banging before this race (or even first corner) is done.

Yes; again a wet race this year:

It would be great, two in a row.

P.S.: Sorry, Felipe.

Well let's hope McLarens wheel nuts are better than Renault's from last year, and that their wheel guns are also up to it :D

This is a McClaren track. The Ferrari's will struggle with the tightness and reduced speed of hungary. There is als a reliabilty issue creeping up with Ferrari. But you never know. I am tipping a McClaren 1-2 or 1-3 .
I think the bMW will run very well here, as will the Renaults. I think they will get thier first podium here. The Super Aguri's will beat the honda's ( at least in quali) and the williams will do very well.

Yes, and if it rains, all bets are off. But one usually doesn't need rain to get a good Hungarian GP.

Is it Friday yet? :)

I've got my fingers crossed for another Super Aguri 1-2. :D

It's just a relief to be able to get back to racing, and the on-track competition between McLaren/Ferrari and Hamilton/Alonso/Massa/Raikkonen.

I expect another touch between Alonso and Massa and this time one will be completly out. Guess who will be out?!

And the rookie finishing on podium again which will count 10 podium in 11 races started so far!!!

Couldnt agree more.

I think McLaren will have a slight advantage here, though nothing like at th other tight and twisty track, Monaco. If the predictions of rain are right then I expect to see firworks from Button again.

The live timing had Massa stopping at the end of the session. It then cleared and his times went up. Can anybody confirm he had a problem or was it a problem with the timing?

Did that really just happen? Very clever, but a bit unsporting and harsh. But it remains to be seen if Alonso's pit move was deliberate.

If anyone wanted proof of McLaren favouring Alonso over Hamilton, it was there for everybody to see. When has anyone seen a team making the championship leader lose his last lap of qualifying?

I don't think that was a team game. You could see they timed it well, they raised the lollipop as Hamilton came near the pitbox, but it was Alonso who waited. The mechanics were waving and shouting at him to move, but he didn't. He knew how long the outlap was and couldn't believe his luck when he saw Hamilton in his mirrors. Ron Dennis definately wasn't happy!

VkmSpouge
4th August 2007, 14:41
Hamilton was clearly the quickest driver (by some margin) but he needs to overtake Alonso into turn 1 from the dirty side of track, I think that will be too difficult and indeed Hamilton might have to be more concerned about Nick Heidfeld's BMW going past him.

Very unfortunate session for Felipe Massa. He has got a lot to do from 14th.

Also I think Giancarlo Fisichella should be punished for holding up Sakon Yamamoto at the last corner. The Renault driver showed no regard for Yamamoto being on a fast lap.

There is another thread for McLaren intra-team battle, so I'm not going to mention it here again. :p :

I was surprised to see Trulli 3rd (!) in Q2. But he was only 9th in Q3, so is he fuelled heavier than the rivals? Ralf lost clearly to Jarno in Q2, but in Q3 was clearly ahead. So that's a bit strange and raises some questions for tomorrow about strategies.

And why on earth was Felipe struggling so much?

Did you notice whether the 2 Toyotas were on different compounds?

On another note, I noticed that the Starting Grid has Fisi down as 'Provisional'. Is he under investigation for something? Anyone have info on this?

jens
4th August 2007, 16:17
Unfortunately didn't pay attention for the tyre compounds.

Jarno's opinion about Q3: "In the last part of qualifying, the car felt pretty heavy and a bit harder to drive. In general my lap was a bit slower than I expected and I’m not sure why."

What is interesting that during all years Hungaroring has never suited Trulli and he has always struggled there. Don't know the exact reason though - maybe as Jarno's driving style 'kills' tyres a lot (which sometimes creates troubles for him in races - as we have also heard on team radio quite often recently) and the track is quite abrasive, then that creates problems. In 1997 he even lost to team-mate Nakano there.

Ah, I see that Fisi is still under investigation for holding up Yamamoto during Q1

Dissapointed about Massa. Yes ferrari screwed up big time, but he doesn't seems to be able to turn the corner. Making the best out of a bad situation, therefor unlikely to be crowned world champion. He seems to lose motivation when it all turns bad.
