Just thought this was as good a time as any to post a suggestion thread because if Mark has to add anything or change anything in the future it'll probably break 10 other things :D

I'd like to ask that the current smilie system on the new forums be kept because it's simpler and will hopefully mean less smilie filled posts :p That and the fact that all the other Vbulletin forums I post on use the same smilies. But I'm not selfish or anything :p But I do honestly think it'll make for a "cleaner" looking forum.

Plus I reckon the  smilie is rather cool.

These 'Default' Smilies actually suck, the old ones were king :D

To me they're better. A lot more cleaner and modern looking. The old ones seemed a bit tired to me tbh.

Nowhere to be seen. But I hear we may have avatars soon!

Ooooh I can do colours!

Hooray!

Avatars which look like flags, yes :p

Small avatars would be no problem, but please let's keep the "no stupid massive flashing GIFS or Flash animations in the signature" rule which has served us so well :)

Have you tried enabling the full WYSIWYG option in your profile? When you go that you no longer need to do the IMG code to post pictures. Just right flick and copy the picture and then past it into your post. Rather cool methinks

The "forum jump" dropdown doesn't display fully in IE7 or FF2, I'm guessing that's just a teething thing...

Yes. Now the forum will be full of threads where people post a news story or a picture or something and people reply simply with "+ rep"

:p

Doesn't work in Vista either. Damn Microsoft! :p

I also added to your reputation Daniel (what came over me???). But what on earth is the purpose of that reputation thing?

I don't want to know! :p

On the other forums I visit it is used by people to show if they don't like someone or don't like what the person is posting or vice versa. So for instance if I like the fact that you do lots of results and stuff for the forum I could give you + reputation. If you come on the forum and are simply rude to people and such things I can give you - rep. I suspect it will be mainly used for - reputation on this forum though as people aren't really familiar with the concept on this forum :)

So for instance we'll get a match between Finnish and Belgian members to see who can give the others more negative reputation marks for saying negative/positive things about Duval? Sounds useful...

Don't worry, I'm perfectly calm - just trying to come to grips with the new forums :)

The new FAQ seems easy to edit, so we may be looking for contributions :p ;) (Dave, *cough*). That being said I don't know the answers myself yet

What about the overall forum mastheads? Will they be reappearing in place of/alongside the vBulletin logo?

Having read another thread, I see that this question doesn't need answering again!

Am not sure of the merits of being able to change the size of text (cue horrible visions of arguments in larger and larger text!), likewise colour text.

And ditto avatars and banner signatures, although Mark knows all of this already, he's a smart cookie

It will be good to have flags back when they're ready to return :)

Yes, well there's one feature that's going to be turned off!

erm not sure but can we have our old forum style back? (white with green)
I see one default, World Motorsport and the really ugly Rallyforum styles only :p :

Mark
6th December 2006, 12:23
That was a really old forum style that one. That hasn't been an official forum style for at least 5 years :p

That colorscheme was king :D

I have a few minor suggestions:

1) Change the permissions on signatures as they are currently not allowing me to edit and put a URL in, even though there's already one there!

2) I'm not keen on posts saying '1 minute ago', '1 day ago' and so on, I prefer it with post times.

Why must posts be a minimum of 5 characters? :s
Makes it difficult in the Word Games forum :p :

i think a nice logo on the default skin would be nice

:)

Speaking as an admin on another forum, some of these features that you speak of such as limiting the size of text, is almost impossible to change ;)

Anyway, avatars (non-flashing) is good, and no huge flashy sigs is a good rule to keep too. The flags will be more than welcome too, always interesting to see where people come from

:)

Put NASCAR above SCSA :)

We know which is the more important and the better series!
