So you have seen the news about the flooding here then :(

Can't wait to get onto one of my favourite circuits :D Hawthorn, Westfield and Dingle Dell are brilliant bends. Paddock Hill bend is one of the best in the world.

I've finished my qualifying as I'll be fairly busy for the remainder of the week until the deadline. Therefore, I've got provisional pole!!!!!

1. dcr22B - 1:02.53

Can't seem to extract anything extra from the car but I'm pretty much writing off this season as a bit of fun as the competition has really hotted up this year.

Brown, Jon Brow

Haven't put my time in the HoF yet but I achieved a 1:02.3x. Even though the gearing is completely wrong for the track on default settings it is still very fun :D

Heads up PV:

If I don't beat a 1:02.xx I will not be given a checksum. I'd be shocked if I can surpass this time when I have a full session (my first and only lap with no mods was a 1:09.xx).

tannat,

I had the same problem as you but there are massive gains to be made on each part of the circuit so I wouldn't lose heart just yet.

I must admit the car is a bit of a pig to handle on default but tough cheddar!! The boys on free settings could improve enough to make it a contest in qualifying this Rd. J. i did 1:08 in practise some days ago, before qualifying had begun. Haven't had a chance to turn the ps2 on let alone get some laps done around brands.

doubt i would of been anywhere near those times..although my time was set when i decided to do a bit of grass tracking along some of the route...

Here are the Race Details for Rd 8 at Brands Hatch:
LENGTH: 15 laps
SETTINGS & GRID PLACEMENT:
*Default settings for: Sloma, Vuko Jnr & Snr, J.B. BobZee.
*Free settings for: dcr22B, J. Shell, tannat.
*Start at the BACK of the Grid: Sloma, Vuko Snr & Jnr.
*Start in the MIDDLE of the Grid: J.B. BobZee, J.Shell, dcr22B.
*Start at the FRONT of the Grid: tannat.
PITS: Set to MANDATORY - You MUST PIT at least ONCE & you MUST CHANGE TYRES.
A.I: Set to HARD
*Corner Cutting & Careless Driving OFF
TIMES: pm O/T & F/L to me by Tuesday midnight 7th August.

This should be interesting!! J.Shell has become the favourite after his blistering lap after qualifying. The "free setting " drivers having the benefit of softer tyre choice. The grid placement & pitting throwing up all sorts of potential scenarios - we should get a different winner & podium getters this Rd - it's brilliant!!!!! Comments please!!

johnny shell

well, it's certainly nice going into a round knowing I have a shot at a podium! and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way.

even if it's due to handicapping.

plus handicapping individual races isn't really going to affect the season championship, so that's cool. the season champion will still be the fastest guy that season... which is important.

Brown, Jon Brow
1st August 2007, 22:11
It would be quite cool if we could all race on-line. I'd dive down the inside of you into Paddock Hill bend, then nudge the back of tannat's car at Dingle Dell so I could get into the lead. After that it would be a display of defensive driving in order to keep the Vuko's and Sloma behind. The home crowd cheering me on :D

The real problem for the guys on default settings will be tyre wear, after 15 laps on 50% they will be shot :\

my starts usually suck....

regardings tires....lucky for you default setting guys that there's a mandatory pit stop anyway.

I'm sure you can still jump in spackman. PV will just have to assign you your settings.

welcome R_I!

I have a feeling the Vukos, Sloma, and BobZee will end up battling for the podium as usual.

but you, me, and JB should have one heck of an exciting battle for that last top five spot.

I know JB has been leaving us behind lately, but he's on default settings this round and I'm not sure he can overcome that to make a run at the podium, even with his mid-field starting spot.

but JB, I do think some of the advantage us free set-up guys had in qualifying will be lost in the race though, because in the race we won't be running on those wayyyy softer tires.

or who know... maybe one of the guys starting up front will be able to surprise us and end up in the top five. maybe tannat will even make it two top fives in a row!

that would be a real croud-pleaser for sure

I do love this track in these cars though - very fast, very smooth, and very on edge with lots of elevation changes. just the way I like it!

tannat
2nd August 2007, 22:40
Do you guys agree the V8s are better around this track than the GTs?

I have no worries at Dingle Dell, where the Mosler and Vette were in the weeds, but it's simple in the Holden :D

johnny shell
2nd August 2007, 22:59
yeah, at dingle bell I flew through the air then hoped I landed in time to not skid off the track.

in the V8 car I bearely have to lift.

but, the paddock hll bend seems more challanging in the V8s. as does Clark Curve.....

johnny shell
2nd August 2007, 23:03

I answered my own question... it seems the chicane was removed in 2002/2003. so that pic must be before then.

it's nice to have chicanes REMOVED for a change, isn't it???? :D

Brown, Jon Brow
3rd August 2007, 00:05
I remember that James Thomson had a big crash at Dingle Dell in the BTCC in 2000. He lost it on cold tyres after a pit stop, so be aware!!!!

They were talking of completely face lifting the circuit so it could host the British GP in 2002, but I don't know what happened to that idea :s

tannat
5th August 2007, 22:27
Completed our race..

Fell in love with this circuit in the V8s (it's not so fun in the Mosler and Cup Class vette :D ). Nice, high speed sweepers, and real gut checks at Stirlings and Paddock Hill bend. Great fun

Hope to be able to get a top 5 with the ample provisions given by the championship organizer....

johnny shell
6th August 2007, 17:02
I agree that this track rocks in these cars! but boy was working up through traffic tough!

I must've restarted a billion times before I learned how to work up to the lead in a decent amount of time. but THEN I got black flagged for corner cutting & had to start over AGAIN.

plus the AI is fast here.

hoping for a top 5, might even have an outisde shot at a podium - which is the beauty of this system. it lets me, tannat, etc have shots at top 5s and podiums.

Brown, Jon Brow
6th August 2007, 22:15
I found it tough to get a good start. It is very easy to go off when following them. You get into the slipstream and don't realise how fast you are going into the corners.

On my best race I managed to go from 10th to 1st on the 2nd lap through Paddock. Then it was a straightforward race. Pitted on lap 7 but got stuck in traffic on my out lap. Normally when I set the car up to my likening I try to race 15 qualifying laps or whatever. But it is much harder trying to be on the limit every lap with default settings.

johnny shell
7th August 2007, 13:49

A good win to J.B!! Young Vuko who took pole, having car troubles & very lucky to finish! This will make the battle for 2nd & 3rd interesting! I will update the pts later!
J.B must have been very consistent - his best lap way down on the top 2. I wasn't able to gain the lead from the back until the 2nd corner of lap 4! even though I got up to 6th spot by the end of the 1st lap. I managed two 1.01's in the race, one 04 & the rest were 02's & 03's.

Not surprised at finishing last in this one to be honest, I simply couldn't get into a rhythm at all but I'm now looking forward to getting to Hockenheim and hopefully discovering some form plus it's a wider track than Brands which was IMO too narrow to pull off daring overtaking manouevres!

Yeah!!!! Another win :D I was lapping in the 1:02.2/3's for most of the race but got faster towards the end when I put in three 1:02.1's. Maybe it's the last 3 laps that won me the race :)

The 'In' lap is very important here because you can gain a few seconds on the pit entrance.

Well done to Mr.Shell on a podium and the tannat for making the top 6.
