View Full Version : 'Snot' an offensive word

Wasn't sure if this was a Transport and Driving forum issue, but it's probably more of a PC Gone Mad issue. The DVLA have stopped issuing registration plates beginning in 'SN07', as it may look like the word 'snot' and people might find that offensive.

I did wonder why I have seen so many TN07 plates going about here, when I know plates beginning with T haven't been allocated to an area yet. :s

Who's offended then? :p :

Well I can see why they wouldn't want to release them because of people not wanting a plate that looked like it said SNOT. But NOT because it offended anyone!? Who would be offended by reading the word snot... i can think of MUCH worse!

So how did they handle SH17 ?

I've seen far fewer attempts at humour with the new style plates. The only decent one I've noticed was a driving instructor's Corsa with the plate LE 55 ONS.

That problem won't arise until April 2017 when the 17 plates are released.

This is just daft really. What about SN06, that looks like 'snog' to me. Surely that's more offensive than 'snot'. :p :

Where would I have to be to get the plate EC 05 SSE? I bet that it ironically would not be in Scotland.

My favourite was BUL517T.

Okay, it does read very well on here, but placed just right on the plate as it was myself and four passengers all pointed and shouted "Bulls**t!" at the same time. It was on a very pretty Alfa, too.
Another was TTO5SER on an Audi TT. Said it all, really :p :

One of my mates swears she's seen 5HIT, but I somehow doubt that one ever existed :mark:

Wondered why we hadn't seen it in a few years - the owner must have sold it. Nobody would move cars from Alfa to Subaru would they?

Any news on TT05SER? I've often wondered if it was fake to be honest (though my passenger at the time read it too and we followed it for a while in jams, so saw it up close). The DVLA must have been asleep for it to get through :p :

There was a car in our street when my brother and I were kids with the plate "C*** POO", which caused much hilarity.
(The asterisks are for numbers I can't remember, not a four-letter word.)

is there a way to track down plates? I didn't know that. how do you do it?

Iain
20th July 2007, 11:51
You used to be able to do it on the RAC website and it would tell you the car's first date of registration, the engine size and the colour. But that doesn't exist anymore. You can do it on the DVLA website though, in the roadtax section.

if you go on any insurance webste to do a quote and put in the reg it will tell you what the car is

Remembered another vaguely humorous number plate - it ended in "LOO". The car is a custard yellow Rolls Royce, which makes it amusing, more than the plate.
