View Full Version : Euro/British F3 Series - Official Test Session

real_illusions
11th July 2007, 22:27
The official test session before the season begins at the beginning of August (next month!).

Open practise. Free settings. Can be done in time trial or a race weekend. Corner cutting on (so the same rules apply to both time trial and race weekend mode). Dont worry too much about flags etc..its just a practise. We're not racing (just yet!).

Circuit - Oulton Park International.

Post your times in here and any useful hints/tips.

Practise ends at midnight british time on the 20th. After that, no more times will be accepted into the session standings.

But FW18 is not a normal car ;)

High, only for this stupid first chicane.

I've decided that my decision not to enter this championship is justified. It is just impossible to drive these cars with a hand controller. I can't even do Old Hall, Cascades or Druids flat because I simply can't get full lock. If you are using a wheel, do a few laps with a controller to see what I mean ;)

The best lap I have done is a 1m12 :uhoh:

And using a handbrake is a suicide.

I'm about to post a 1:10.42 :(

I'm using the hadbrake at the hairpin. 2 delicate taps help get it around.

I daresay I'm far slower than you at this point of the circuit, AS

Are you guys flat/no lift through the first right, and first left?

How about the fast sweeper on the back part of the circuit?

Your describing the corners I mentioned. Old Hall and Cascades.

In reality the F3 cars are flat through the fast double apex left sweeper (Druids). However they have there tail out which makes it look very spectacular if you watch from the inside of the corner. ;)

I don't thinks it's possible to be competitive in these tannat if you are using a hand controller, unlike DTM and V8's :(

My previous setup was for steering wheel and this is for hand controller. But playing on the keyboard, I trying various settings and did not see any difference.

Thanks. I am not a big fan of the cars. But they can help if you ever want to attend the Skip Barber Driving school. The non winged FF cars hande much like the F3 machine in TRD 3.

I've started working with set-ups and I'm down to a 1:05.70

yeah, I'm flat out all the way untill that first U-turn right before the chicane. you really gotta hit that first turn just right to take it flat out.

the bump really throws you in the air & you gotta be in just the right spot when you land!

at the first chicane, just come to a stop once there & look around at it. there's a pretty straight line through it if you hop the curbs as much as they'll allow.

and on that turn at the end that crests the hill, do most your turning BEFORE you crest the hill. it'll feel like a goofy line but you can't turn anymore once you hit the crest.

of course, I'm no Adam Sloma or anything.....

CCFan- that's cool to hear that these handle like cool race cars.

I can't imagine what it would be like to drive those things! did you? where?

hand controller users - sounds like these cars are like the dodge nascars on the ovals - you just gotta have a wheel because the AI when you use the pad just won't crank the wheel enough.

when you use a wheel the AI doesn't think for you - it just does what you say.

I love this track, but that chicane with the bump is ludicrous (no one does chicanes like the UK: Snett, Donny, Knockhill, CCombe, certain S Stone layouts-YUK!!!).

I'm thinking I might be a bit close to the front at an alternate venue, or I could be absolutely wrong... :D

My time needs to be replaced and brought down. I did that at the wrong track. I mistook Oulton Park for Oran Park. I did a 1min. 10.78s. That is with the hand controller.

Johnny, you can take the 1 day combo at Sebring for the Skip Barber Racing School for about 1500 dollars. You drive a MX-5 Cup car and the Skip Barber Formula Ford car.

I need my time dropped by almost 4 seconds.

With the greatness of the wheel(which DHL delievered over night) in only a half an hour I lowered my time down to 1m 6.98s. Could not take turn one without lifting and down shifting, but now I can take it with just alittle blip off of the accelerator.
