Hi i am new to this forum i have been to the Rock both times this year to watch the scsa and trucks, with the trucks my favourite.
I have purchased a scanner to use at the next meeting and wondered who you all listen to? (any help with frequencies would be great)

Cheers

Theres a list of frequencies here:

http://www.htmlonlineracing.com/radio_frequencies_april_07.htm

Theres a small mistake in the pickup frequencies, Kelly Jane's frequency and Karl Turner's need swapping - KJW is 469.54375 (Tone squelch: 141.3), Karl is 447.00625 (Tone squelch: 141.3)

I tend to flick between Kelly and Nic Grindrod, I like grindrod but Kellys spotter is good to listen to as he's always clear and gives plenty of information so can sometimes be better to listen to.
In SCSA I usually listen to Colin but thats purely as I'm a bit of a Colin White fan, not exactly the easiest spotter (or driver) to understand :cheese:

Your probably best of just listening to your favourite driver, you'll certainly get alot out of hearing exactly how they're doing, any issues etc.

With my scanner, its a mixture of Gavin Seager/spotter or, more usually, the commentary!

Race control!

It does tend to be boring a lot of the time but at least it means I can catch up on my sleep. :s nore:

For the trucks I tend to hop between Willis, Seager and Dance. For the cars Shane Brereton and John Stewart are usually good entertainment.

The Icom R5 would be my choice, I couldn't afford it when I got mine though so got the R2 which is also good but doesn't allow naming of channels (which is a slight nuisance).
Maplin have a B-grade (sold and returned) R5 for £123 HERE (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=34556&C=Froogle&U=34556&T=Product&MA=IC-R5%20Scanner%20(B%20Grade%20Icom%20IC-R5)). eBay also have a couple: HERE (http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=icom+r5)

Can't advise on headsets, I just use those in ear headphones with rubber seal type ear bits that seal out noise, similar to THESE (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/880672/Sennheiser-CX-300-In-Ear-Headphones/Product.html), work fine for me and don't make me look like metal mickey :cheese:

Yes thats a point, ive been using my standard mp3 player headphones. They are more than capable, i dont think theres a REAL need to go and buy a big headset, unless we get to a 30 V8's on the grid stage when it might become necessary!

Uniden USC-230 comes with headset - typically £99.95 - less from your friendly pit-lane radio dealer. Ahem! (all major credit cars accepted!)

Nice little bit of kit.

As for mp3 earphones - http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=135720
Etymotic - dogs danglers. I use them as part of my helmet set. Sound quality is fab, noise attenuation is great (and you lot don't get as close to the V8 as I do!), only downside is... cough! ££££££££
