Hello,

My brother and I went to Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of weeks ago and we've both caught the rally car bug. But looking on the net the next day I couldn't find a great deal of rally events/tracks in the South East of England. Can anyone point us in the right direction and recommend events to try and get to (even if there outside SE England)? I think we're after dirt tracks more than gravel and tarmac tracks.

I'm also a kind photographer and want to combine trips to rally car events with photography.

Sad to say there are very few venues left in the South East of the UK. Quite apart from rallying, there is now no hill climb venue in the entire South East quarter of the UK.
There is a stage rally tomorrow in Essex and one in east Devon.
This will list many rallies but you need to register to read it:

If you are not familiar with some of the locations, just ask here (or there).

Smeatharpe Stages Rally. Smeatharpe airfield north of Honiton, south of Taunton (not all tarmac, much of it is broken surface).

Just travel a bit further into Wales as that's where most of UK forest rallying is.

Look at the Quinton this weekend - Quinton (http://www.quintonstages.qmc.org.uk)

or the Swansea Bay rally in 2 weeks time (21 July) - Swansea Bay (http://www.swanseabayrally.com/)

Later in the year, there are excellent forest events like the Woodpecker (Ludlow, Shropshire - 1 September), The Plains (Mid Wales - 22 Sept), The Bulldog (Mid Wales - 20 October) and the Cambrian (North Wales - 3 November).

And there's some small event in S Wales in early December that people on here get unduly excited about.

There's also the Tempest based around Aldershot on November 10th, if you want something more local.

Details of last years event at http://www.tempestrally.com

I expect information for the 2007 event will be posted on the site nearer the time.

Hi all,

Thanks for your reply.

greencroft, I presume the "small" event in S Wales is the World Rally Championships? :-) I think that's a definite to go, must be the biggest rally event in this country? Thanks for the details of the rest, I'll find details on them all.

Steve, the Tempest rally looks interesting, I'll keep an eye out for 2007 details. That's not far from me at all.

FAL, I've registered for that site but still waiting to be approved.

It does look like most events are in Wales. If you had to select 5 rally car events to go to in the year in England/Wales which ones would it be?

Because of the distance of travel I think we would get to only a few events a year, Goodwood and WRC in Wales have to be the first 2 on the list.

Any of the BRC events that Andrew Burton in his monster 306 Cosworth hybrid is competing in.. ie Bulldog etc, not sure what his schedule is this season. Make sure you witness this in action though before it gets banned by the MSA.. ;)

Anyone know Burtons schedule?

The Bulldog is not a round of the BRC but a round of the Hankook National Rally Championship.

Burton already has an entry for it.
