..the very first three auto racing sims you purchased in your life?

For me, it was:

1-Enduro for the Atari 2600 (early 80s)
2-Andretti Racing for the Sega Saturn
3-Sega Rally Championship for the Sega Saturn

This was early 90's when I was 4. The Commadore 64 was my sister and brothers machine, and they are now in their 30's/late20's. :p

I remember my dad had Enduro racing for his Atari 2600, and I played it when I was around 5-6 years old, then I also remember playing some F1 game made by accolade on a PC.
but the first ones I bought were: Gran Turismo, Colin McRae Rally and Need for Speed 3, all for PS1

comadore 64?!?!?! wow. that's why you have so much character I guess JB - character beyond your years...

I was going to say mine was Outrun on my Sega in like the late 80s I guess. I loved that game - do a segment, then come to a split and have to choose left or right, then do another segment then another split!

and you got to pick your "radio" station.

and if you made it to the end the hottie in the ferrari's passanger seat got out and start strutting around  good stuff!

there was also "hang on" for sega, the motorcycle game. that was actually a better racing game as you had to pick proper line through the turns & such.

and wayyy before that there was "night racer" on the 2600 - complete with the paddle wheel instead of the joystick. you really had to get those paddle spins down perfectly to get through the esses!

fast forward to this century - last year someone game me an old PS1 and I found a used CART racing game & some version of Test Drive and my love affair with sim racing was reborn!

The first for me was "Revs" for the old BBC Model B (1984) (The tracks were just a black strip in between a sea of green with red and white lines marking the kerbs. No scenery at all and the car was a collection of squares vaguely looking like a single seater racing car!!!

Next up would be "Pole Position" on the same computer and very much a similar experience despite it supposing to be the same as the arcade game in the amusements.

Bit of a gap then until "Network Q Rally Championship" (1996) on pc. Real Network Q rally stages driven in real time. Some were over 1/2 an hour long!!! A great game in it's day. :)

The ones that stick out for me are
Tommi Makkinen Rally
Colin McRae Rally
Formula One (Based on 95 Season!)

All 3 are PS1 games!

Yeah, that was the Rally Championship game that I mentioned. That was quite a game. It was the first ever one we had for PC
I remember that it had Donington park as the super specials, although you hardly tell that it was Donington. I once got a Ford Escort Cosworth over 200mph!

My brain is struggling to think that far back, but the first ones I remember buying for about £1.99 were
1. Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cITHSHT_YRw&mode=related&search=
2. RAC Lombard rally http://www.abandonia.com/games/pt/898/LombardRACRally.htm
3. stuntcar racer (not strictly a racing game) http://www.ysrnry.co.uk/articles/stuntcarracer.htm

All on the hi-tec Sinclair Spectrum +2A :)

First one i bought was GP2, a mighty simulator that brought every computer to it's knees in Monaco with full eye candy :)

First i played was Slicks or Test Drive on C64. :)

Speaking of historical games, i've ben playing Rally Trophy again, i might get a new record on Russia's first stage this week. Managed to do the whole stage in my head last night, just like downhill skiers. :D

first ever one...hmm..i think i was about 10 or so..maybe younger..we had an atari, where there was an f1 game. I forget what it was called. All i remember was:
The tracks were all the same, green grass either side, with gantries and trees by the side. All tracks are flat. Just the layout was different. It had monaco, suzuka and the old silverstone (pre 1991 circuit). You couldn't go round backwards, when you hit the trees and stuff on the side, your car would stop suddenly but lift a bit in the air at the back. Cant remember what the AI was like, but i dont recall any crashes with the other cars.

Then we had another PC from a distant family member, which had another f1 game on..cant remember what that was like..actually..come to think of it..i think i'm mixing the 2 games up in the above description.

Then we got a PS1 with Gran Tourismo. That was a HUUUUGGEEEE jump in game playing ;)

Update, from yesterday, managed to get two seconds off, still bloody 10 seconds behind the best time at Blackhole Motorsports #1 ranking time. I can get two-three seconds more off for sure, but that's about it.
Almost threw the monitor out of the windown while trying to beat the record. :D

First three... well, I didn't buy them, but the first ones I played were some F1 sim on the ZX Spectrum, I remember only that one of the cars was called Psion Pegasus. Then there was that F1 sim on the C=64, could it have been Revs? And then Pit Stop 2. I don't know if it qualifies as racing sim, but it's certainly wonderful :)

The first three I know I got myself were Test Drive 2, Grand Prix, and Network Q RAC Rally.

(also: Hi folks, I finally found this forum again. :) )

oh oh, now I feel really old!! I was 12 years old in 1990!

I had a host of driving games for the C64.

Pit stop
Grand Prix
Pole Position
Burnin rubber (loved that game!)
Test drive 1 and 2
Outrun

I still remember Grand Prix 2 coming out for the PC though, you needed a super computer of the day to run it with any of the detail settings turned up, but it was a masterpeice at the time.

another was indy 500 for the pc (one of the first games to feature damage modelling)

I had both indycar racing and indycar racing 2 games for the pc too.
Nieuman Haas racing (indycars)for PS1 was a great game too.

I'm currently playing Forza Motorsport 2 on XB360 and Formula One 06 on my PSP.
