I donīt know it there are any spanish here, but i want you to know what the spanish media say about F1.

Four years ago, nobody here knew about F1. People said that it was a stupid sport, but, when Fernando Alonso started to win, everybody here knows about F1. They think they are specialists in motorsport, but, in fact, they are Alonsoīs fans. They donīt want to know anything about F1, only about Alonso.

I have to say that i have followed F1 since 1989, and iīm Tifossi, so, of course, i donīt like Fernando Alonso at all.

Well, once i said that, letīs talk about spanish media. They are Alonso fans too. But, not only that, they never say that Alonso makes mistakes. The only that they say is that Mclaren is boycotting Alonso because Hamilton is english, like Mclaren, like Ron Dennis... Really stupids.

This week, has been calm, but, when they say some ****, i will post it here, because maybe you donīt know what people say here.

For example, do you remember what happened last week, when Alonso said that Mclaren helped Hamilton? Alonso said: "English media has translated my words wrongly". I assure you that it was translated properly. He said exactly that.

Poor big baby Alonso. Is he nervous? It is the first time that his team mate beats him...

PD: If Alonso says something like it again, and later he says that it has been a wrong translation, i will be delighted to translate what he says

FA is indeed under kick-ass pressure from runaway LA..

We can all agee that spanish media on F1 are a bunch of donkeys and that Telecinco is almost as bad as ITV.

However:
"I have to say that i have followed F1 since 1989, and iīm Tifossi, so, of course, i donīt like Fernando Alonso at all."
Strange logic, qué ?
You don't like him because of the spanish donkey media or because he beat Ferrari- twice ! :D

Bienvenido anyway de un Alonso Fan, pero que lleva more than 4 years following F1.

I think the title of the thread is a bit misleading... This is not about Spanish media... this is actually an anti-Alonso thread if I may say so....

Iīm extremely glad Iīll have the opportunity to have a ferrarian fanatical fan translating what Alonso is saying. Fortunately I understand Spanish pretty well and Iīll be able to decide without any help what to understand.

I had the chance to see how annoying those telecinco commentators are so thereīs no news there.... This, however, doesnīt make Alonso a poorer driver in any way. My favorite (as I've said before) is Gonzalo Serrano (or something like that)...

Exactly what? I hear Fernando when he said that on TV, and I read some translations (and adaptations of those translations), and some of them were really different.

But this is not something new in F1 journalism, as you should know being a fan for the last 18 years.

Welcome, and thanks for the translations.

Marca sells about 1,2million newspapers a day in a nation of 40 million, and sports newspapers in general pull 2 million a day, that's a newspaper for every 20. Quite impressive if I may. Maybe the ones that don't have a clue about journalism is ...

And about Telecinco is pretty much the same, about 6 million viewers a race and a full morning of motorsports every 15 days. Never seen, never heard in Spain, but of course they know nothing about their business.

Hipocrisy.
British media bashed Alonso after Monaco and Hamilton was no better at that press conference that Fernando is now.

This thread seems rather silly as the British Media are doing the same thing with Hamilton.

This is the media, people. They are there to make money, not to tell the entire truth.

I don't want to minimize the incidence of spanish sport media, but Marca is very far from selling 1.2 million newspapers a day. Acording to the official data, Marca sells just 1/4 of what you've said (308.835 per day in 2006):

http://www.ojd.es/app/busquedas/result.asp?codigo=1200003&up=20001201

Sport newspapers in general (Marca, As, El Mundo Deportivo, Sport, Superdeporte, Estadio Deportivo and Equipo), sell 761,482 per day:

http://www.ojd.es/app/busquedas/search.asp?titulo=&clasificacion1=1&clasificacion2=12&editor=&Image2.x=33&Image2.y=10

Spain is not a country of 40 million people. You should add a 12.5% to get 45 million people. The last census, as of January 1st, 2006, shows 44,708,964 people, 18 monts ago:

http://www.ine.es/inebase/cgi/axi?AXIS_PATH=/inebase/temas/t20/e260/a2006/l0/&FILE_AXIS=pro001.px&CGI_DEFAULT=/inebase/temas/cgi.opt&COMANDO=SELECCION&CGI_URL=/inebase/cgi/
(press "Consultar Selección" for a total, or "Consultar todo" for detailed figures).

According to this data, is not a sport newspaper for every 20 people, but one sport newspaper for every 60 people; 1/3 of what you've said, and that's about a 10% the circulation of countries like Germany.

Not so impressive.

About the TV coverage, you're 100% right. This has been a real hit, with audience figures never seen before on auto sports (though motorbike events were equally attended during many years).

It's dificult to count a specie being killed for fun.

The same is valid for british foxes, japanese dolphins, and artic baby seals.

Unfortunately my house is 100 meters away from Barcelona's bullring, and I see everyday this "Torture chamber" (someone paint that sign, in english, on the pavement).

But I'm off-topic; soory for that.

Im quite glad that the Spanish media bigs up Freddie. Its a country with a proud heritage in Motor sport and more front page focus can only be good for the sport.

Iīve remembered today about this thread while listening to the commentary of a Romanian f1 expert... I can understand why the Spaniards might find their commentators annoying or the brits with their LH mania... but you have to listen to this to appreciate what you have.... I have to listen to this specialist talking half of the time about how FA canīt stand McLaren anymore... That he would do whatever he had to to leave the team... That heīs desperate because thereīs no way out for him... I mean... listening to this guy for an hour you would think FA spends half of the time weeping in the toilet and the other half begging at other teamīs doors to take him....

Thereīs no quals or race that he doesnīt say... "This is JTīs fiance sheīs a Malaysian actress" and occasionally they make jokes about how this engagement is too long already... yeah... good information... let me write that down

And he goes on talking all the time even when thereīs a radio conversation... well... itīs understandable because he canīt see when that happens but he asked the other one to tell him... the answer to that was... Itīs hard to understand what they are talking anyway... so they go on talking when thereīs a radio conversation... I donīt know if you understand just how annoying it gets... I shout to the TV... SHUT UP!! SHUT UP YOU MORON...but what can I do?... I could watch it on mute but thatīs no good either... so when it gets really bad I change the channel... I watch it on a Hungarian television.. I donīt understand a word but I can hear the engines at least...

Yes Itīs him... You know I even hate to say bad things about him... He seems so naive and harmless and really passionate about the sports but that doesnīt matter much... I think he should give up the talking business and stick to writing articles or somethings like that so people could choose whether they want to read it or not

Don't know about the Hungarians, I've only watched one race on the Hungarian television and it was back in 94!
The French aren't very good either, they keep talking about Renault and nothing else.
Another one that I watch and listen is the Austrian one, not that bad but he keeps talking about RedBull, TorroRosso, Wurz and Klien!

One commentary that I like was the Italian one on Italia1, but that was back in the 90s, since than it has been either French or Austrian.

I can confirm that this is true, guys. Man, you never heard so much stupidities in one race commentary, so much errors about drivers, so many innapropriate interventions....! Race after race after race...a whole season plus qualifyings. I used to watch races on Italia Uno also, but it is gone from our cable companies. I actually am sorry that I don't speak german to be able to watch the races on RTL. And the nightmare will go on because it seems that the guy has a lifetime contract with the television. No critics seem too powerfull to bring him down. Give thanks for what you've got, you never had to hear one of the worst.

Deppending to what part of Spain you go perhaps you will have the chance to watch the GP's on TV3 (Televisió de Catalunya). The commentators are Marc Gené, Vicenį Aguilera (former chief engineer at Seat Sport Ral.li team) and a journalist that knows nothing about F1. It's not perfect but it is 100 times better than Tele5.
Comments are in Catalan but don't think you will have problems to understand it if you speak latin languages.

Nothing new there... thatīs the way things work there... Itīs not F1 thatīs so popular in Spain. Itīs FA. If you miss the race and just watch the news you have all the chances not to find out who won the race if itīs not FA. The same thing goes for every other sport and this was really strange for me...
