JPM and AJ are embarrased by the NASCAR regulars.
Boris Said well done in a part-time team/ride. Robby Gordon and Bill Elliot in a single car team do great. Kudos to Ron Fellows as well.
Jamie Mcmurray and Dale Earnhardt Jr. surprise and impress.
It is sure going to be fun watching Jeff Gordon come through the field on Sunday.

Wow for McMurray & Earnhardt. Who'd have thought that? I feel bad for Robby, I bet he thought he would have the pole. I would say he is now the favorite, if his car and crew hold up.

Why is P. J. Jones starting behind Gordon and Johnson?

Why is P. J. Jones starting behind Gordon and Johnson?
Weird quirk in the wording of how the 43rd starting spot is determined. Quick answer is, if you're in the "top 35" you start higher then 43rd.

I'm already wondering which of the front row starters goes off course in Turn 2, and how much carnage happens behind them when they do?

Great job by Jamie Mac to win the pole. He always runs well on the road courses and could be a threat to win on Sunday. Robby Gordon looks like the car to beat to me though.
Bill Elliott in seventh was a surprisingly strong run. He's done a great job in the #21 since taking over and this team is getting closer to the top 35.
Of the DNQ drivers Scott Riggs stands out. Evernham must be wishing he'd hired a road racer instead of Scott. Am amazed that Evernham was talking about extending Riggs' contract. To me he is the driver who has done the worst job this season and he certaintly doesn't deserve to be in Cup.

Rumours have come up recently regarding both Kasey and Elliot wanting out of Evernham. Riggs is an asset as it stands.

Kudos to Jamie. He gave credit to Boris Said for his pole position. Boris did considerable testing with the car for Roush and Jamie's team.
Jeff Gordon is determined to come up through the field and go for the win. Some fuel stop gambles could help him since he is starting at the rear and doesn't have many spots to lose.

Why is P. J. Jones starting behind Gordon and Johnson?
Starting positions 1 thru 42 are reserved for the top 35 in Owner's Points & the 7 fastest qualifiers .....
the 43rd starting spot is reserved for a previous champion who isn't in the top 35 or 1 of the 7 fastest qualifiers .....
if a previous champion doesn't need it, then it goes the next fastest car/driver in qualifying .....
sounds complicated but it really isn't. :D
Gordon & Johnson are top 35 drivers, so they start ahead of the 43rd spot.
