Anybody what's the latest with Gigi? Did he get to sign-up for a 2007 drive? or is he gonna do recces only again for the whole season?

GigiGalliNo1

I don't know which is a bummer! :(

staying at home ?

Daniel
17th December 2006, 11:34
I think N.O.T is mostly right. Maybe a rally of 3 or 4 next year. Then one or two the year after that then staying at home permanently after that :) The way it should be.

Maybe he will do a judicious move together with Prelli!
Move to the future and we see a nice yellow S2000!
He can be the first S2000 champion in 2007!

Wake up guys, the future is now.

Is not a S2000 Championship...as you can find out if you read the rules for it.

I read the rules and in a way you are right. But wasn't that obvious he used a brachylogy?

No it is not a S2000 championchip only, but S2000 is the "top-class" and what makes IRC unique !

Galli in IRC would be spectacular ! :D

Daniel
17th December 2006, 17:42
Why be champion of a second or third rate championship?

You can drive with S2000 in PWRC as well, nothing unique in IRC...

There are here some forum members that don´t want to see IRC and continue believe in the dying wrc.
WRC too expensive, no place for talent and only a money matter!
Just look what happened there with most of young the drivers which find no budget!
yes certainly I also like to see kinder wrc cars, that is not the point here.
All this young and talented rally drivers wants to drive, however.
If they get no chance in WRC they take the other offered options, same thing for te sponsors! IRC is at this moment the only best option!

Daniel
17th December 2006, 19:09
Ah. So a different name will help. Perhaps they could call it RWC. Then it'll all be fine

Tom206wrc

Gigi Galli(and Pirelli) is the only chance for Bozian-Racing if they want a decent allround driver for their whales in 2007 now !!!

And I guess it's already too late to register as M2 team now, so Bozian would only be able to fight as 100% privateer for the drivers championship :mark:

PS: Gigi won the Memorial Bettega this week-end in the yellow Pirelli-backed whale from Bozian !! :p :

Meanwhile Gigi won with the usual yellow Bozian Pug 307 the Memorial Bettega at Motorshow 2006, doubling the win (with a Mitsubishi Lancer) of the last year. This year maybe harder with rivals like Gardemaister (Citroen) and Atkinson (Subaru).
But the main surprise came from the 20 years old Simone Campedelli, who got the 4th place with an 'old' Pug 206 WRC ! I hope we will hear him again in the future ...

Agree,

It's strange that the 2006 M2 champions might not be able to continue next year. I really think they counted on Stohl to continue, and now they might only be able to enter a few rounds (like BSA) in 2007.

I like the whales so I was hoping to see them against Kronos in the M2 championship in 2007 :(

Studio Sport (most famous sport magazine aired on Italia 1 three times a day) interviewed Galli right some minutes ago ... quite surprisingly I must say (99% of the time they talk about soccer, F1 or MotoGP ...).

Of course the news are ... that there aren't certain news for 2007.
He surely will not go to Monte ("perche' ci siamo ammucchiati gia' troppe volte li'" - some italians will understand this one LOL ! I never heard the word "ammucchiati" before you figure !) and hopes to start in Sweden. No 16 rounds, I'm afraid Daniel is right (for once... :p ).

They showed Gigi over the Pug307 in the happiness of the Memorial Bettega win, greeting the crowd and all ... then he jumped down but nearly lost the car (which was still running at least at 20km/h !), rotfl he's really mad =) !

If you want to watch it, the replica should be at 5am :)

Gigi says as in the other interview (on crash.net) that he isn't 100% sure about the drive with the Xsara but has entered the Swedish and Norwegian rounds of the WRC. Polish site: He says he will need testing with the new car as he doesn't know how it drives and never drove it before. Also that if might be difficult for him as there are many good talents in the WRC at the moment. What he needs right now is help from a few people so he can continue and be competitive.

Except on tarmac where Pirellis were clearly slower.

Instead Pirelli snow tyres are quite good. Maybe even better than the gravel ones, I think.

Unless Michelin has improved since last year ... then we're doomed ^^

Finni
11th January 2007, 13:49
Being on Pirellis on gravel/snow is more or less risky. On tarmac -> I think Gigi will not do any tarmac rounds with Pirellis.. Much depends on how Michelin has approached to this seasons - have they done any developement work. If they have not done then snow rallies should be ok with Pirellis. In any case I don't believe that Pirelli does massive developement pushes due to Galli only. Hopefully they have moral to say that they are not supplying if it's obvious that they are heavely in underdog position..

I just received an email with an official press release from Aimont Racing with title:

AIMONT RACING - GIGI GALLI

XSARA WRC FOR THE 2007 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

On Thursday January 11th Aimont Racing Team and the Italian- rally driver Gigi Galli signed an agreement to compete together in 2007 in the WRC.
The program, with the help of Citroen Sport, consists in 8 world championship rallies in a Citroen Xsara WRC, with active differentials. The car will be followed technically by P.H.Sport and Pirelli will supply the tyres for the first two events .
The eight rallies are as follows:

- Uddeholm Swedish Rally
- Rally Norway
- Rallye de Portugal
- Rally Argentina
- Rally d’Italia-Sardegna
- BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally
- Neste Oil Rally Finland
- Rally of New Zealand

Great satisfaction and lots of enthusiasm from both sides for a deal which is really important for the entire Italian and worldwide rally panorama.
These are the words pronounced by Team Manager and Vice President of Aimont, Mr. Pierfrancesco Zanchi , after signing the agreement: “I am really satisfied. Finally, after much talk, we were able to close this fantastic deal in the WRC. We had been thinking about getting Gigi to drive in this years world championship for quite some time now and at last here we are! At this time we have 8 rallies planned and we are already working on expanding that. For all of us here at Aimont this is surely a very important experience and for Gigi it will be the possibility to be in the championship with a good program. I would like to thank all the people who helped us in making all this possible, starting with Citroen Sport, the French structure P.H. Sport, Pirelli Tyres, Xideko sport, Beta Utensili, Acerbis and Stilo”.
Adding to Team manager Zanchi' s own words we have those of the driver Gigi Galli: “For us the Xsara will be a completely new car . We can not hide the fact that we are quite proud of having realized this project that only a few weeks ago seemed almost impossible. I am very satisfied to have closed the deal with the Aimont Racing Team , who I consider one of the best team in the Italian rally panorama. Regarding the first two races I would say that the rally in Sweden is a race that we know quite well while , on the other hand, the one in Norway will be almost a completely new experience for all of us. The last two years, in Sweden, we run with WRC cars so I think we know how to deal with those cars on the snow surfaces. Now we have to capitalize those past experiences”.

“Emotions in this moment are so strong” – concluded Gigi – “We know there will be difficulties but we will do everything we can in order to continue to play a leading role in the world rally championship. I have been following this dream for a long time and we are definitely ready to take this chance now.”
The rally in Sweden will take place on February 8th in Karlstad where an unedited super-special stage will be held, opening this new and enthusiastic adventure for Aimont Racing Team , P.H. Sport, Gigi Galli and his co-driver Giovanni Bernacchini.

"He will drive a PH Sport Citroen Xsara WRC, to be run by Italian company Aimont Racing. Galli will drive all the first half of the season except Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo and Corona Rally México before tackling Neste Oil Rally Finland and Rally New Zealand following the summer break.

Best known for its Subaru Italia operations, Aimont still runs two Impreza World Rally Cars and remains the official Subaru Rally Team in Italy. It hopes to use these cars on WRC events in 2007 as well as the Citroen. Pirelli will be the tyre supplier for Galli.

Team chief Pierfrancesco Zanchi said: "At last we are here. We had been thinking about getting Gigi to drive for us for quite some time. We have eight rallies planned and we are already working on expanding that. The deal was only finally settled last Thursday."

I read this as them hoping to have other drivers in Subaru cars at the same time, and therefore spread the costs of entering each event.

I didn't read it as Gigi using Xsara for 8 events, and Subaru for others. Gigi statement says he will enter a fixed number of rounds only.

Davide78
21st January 2007, 03:02
Well, the real present situation is the following:

Gigi has a programme of 8 WRC rounds with a PH Sport Xsara, as explained in his website, by Aimont and by Pirelly itself.

However the Aimont team manager, Mr Zanchi, is looking for the budget necessary for some other rounds.

This is the present situation, nothing more, nothing less!

So, all the possibilities can became reality: some other rounds with the Xsara if Gigi and Aimont will found further budget or Pirelli will decide to go on supporting Gigi, some other rounds with the Aimont's Subaru 2005 if the Aimont will have the economic possibility to well prepare its car (an Impreza 2005 ex Prodrive) or no more rounds if they will not found any other budget....

As to now it's impossibile to say something more about other Gigi's WRC rounds. Nobody knows about them simply as nothing has already decided and all will be decided during next 6/8 months considering Gigi and Aimont further possible budget and also Gigi results with the Xsara.

Ps: Happy birthday GigiGalliNo1!!!!!

well we see galli got some good times in Norway and Sweden but due to his critical errors of maybe pushing too hard and luckily not so hard on the final stage in NOR :p ;) haha

What place do you guys think that Gigi would have come if he did not have an off in SWE and also twice in NOR? 3rd perhaps? maybe even higher? I'm not going to put my opinion just yet, not that I would say he'd come first or anything, but you could see Galli in an older car and a Xsara beating times of the Subaru's, Fords and the new C4!

I think he would of continued to place top times, (stage wins) but against Mikko and Gronholm having a fight for the top poistion, and later the french frog off! :D it might have been difficult. Anyways, some how I don't see Gigi winning right away, Reason being is that You have Loeb and Gronholm. I see loeb winning, its boring, I see Marcus winning, something slightly new, Mikko an amazement and Solberg is trying! But with the three main guys up there always fighting for a win, its harding seeing Gigi and Stohl and Toni and Sordo and still Mikko having a shot at a win! But wish not only Gigi but others the best this year as it's turned out only after 3 rounds to be quite exciting!

He went off, but no, he doesn't do always like you say.
It was back to Mitsu time, because he had to overdrive it to keep on the pace. With Pug, 0 crashes (only a spin in Finland with a passive 307 which costed him a minute or so).
With Xsara, I think he tried to win in Sweden but got stuck in a very unlucky way as there was no snowbank in that corner, cooled down in Norway to get a top 8 finish but got stuck one time (which is LESS than Loeb btw :p !) because he couldn't see properly.
Let's go see some gravel rallies, pity he doesn't do any asphalt round because I think he can show he can be fast there too (if he gets BFG tarmac tyres lol).

Honestly not trying to cause an argument but your post is full of mistakes. Sometimes it's all to easy just to make excuses for each mistake that a driver makes.

To me a good indicator of Gigi's talent is the fact that yet again he's not in a factory car and yet again Pirelli are presumably pumping the money in to keep him in the WRC. But each to his own ;) You think Galli is great and I don't :)

That's my view too. I love watching him and hope that he does well, but you just know he's going to throw it away. Watching the on-board footage from Norway, his style at the wheel looked absolutely frantic. While I'm glad that he's not just boringly neat and tidy, we shouldn't expect him to maintain his pace throughout an event.

Too Bad of course, because he is at least a spectacular driver, but results were not so good with the Xsara (like no one has done in private Xsara may I add). Surprising is that he didn't get a budget for his home rally

As with a lot of drivers I say he was hoping for results and then to get some sponsorship on the back of those results to keep him going through the rest of the year. I wouldn't say no one has done well in private Xsara's. In fact they're a good car for privateers!

So who is going to out the name of the sponsor?

Not Ainmont of course but that doens't mean it can't be "leaked".

I bet it's Xideko. They have a big spot on the car's livery on all sides, so it must be them. I wonder how an Aircon company be able to supply all the funds needed to run such an expensive program.

Galli and Aimont, very kindly, didn't announce the name of the sponsor that turned down its sponsorship, so any bet is just a bet, but considering carefully Zanchi's words (Aimont President), directly in Italian and not translated in English, it looks that a new planned sponsor decided not to enter in this business and that it doesn't depend on Galli results.

So no one of the previous sponsors has turned down its interest, above all Xideco, who is a very serious firm who strongly supported Galli.

Gigi's on home page again of WRC.com

This time now officially canceling his 2007 calendar. (?)

Was he meant to be back up and running in Italy? Oh great......I thought it was over when it was announced a few weeks back but now this is a set back.... :(

"Gigi Galli and Aimont Racing have cancelled their rally programme for the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship season

After the withdrawal of Gigi Galli from this weekend's Rally Argentina, Aimont Racing Team, responsible for running the Italian's Citroen Xsara in the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship, has officially announced today the cancellation of its rally programme for the rest of the year.

The team and Galli had hopes to continue their schedule starting from their home event, Rally d'Italia Sardegna, but it has been impossible after an important sponsor decided to withdraw its support." WRC.com

The sponsor was apparently not glad with the choice of the car! I would also not invest in that old down-Tweaked car!

The whale would have been better(at least for the Pirellis) I always believed that :p :

That is odd I think, why did so many choose Xsara over 307. Did they really imagine driving the car fast as no-one but Loeb could really do it. Except maybe Gardemeister.

There are some important but wrong statements in this discussion....

First of all, the reason why the sponsor withdraw its support isn't at all the car choosen! It was just for its new business plan, not because of Galli results or the car choosen. And this is very important to be told!

Then there's to clear another important point. As shown also in this forum by a member who posted Galli's Xsara curriculum, that car was neither the same that Loeb used nor a similar one!
It was a much older one, with performances rather far from Kronos Xsaras.
Moreover he drove with old Pirelli tyres (made for WRC 2006, with no further development!) and in spite of this he normally made the same special stages times the Kronos drivers made and in 2 rallies on 3 he even was the faster driver with Xsaras (in Sweden also the best Citroen driver considering the bad rally made by Loeb and Sordo).

So he made a good job with that car and all the present budget problems he had to front are not at all related to his results, that, considering what he could drive and use, are totally good.

If we win the BIG lotto over here we'll sponsor him, couple of $million be ok ?

Well, it's clear that in the present WRC the talent is considered just for the 1st driver.

Even the 2nd driver of the 3 biggest teams pays to run, and all the other drivers of M2 teams pay to drive....the only thing that matters for them it's the money they pay to rent the car! This is not at all a sport, it's just a business...unfortunately...

It's not at all Galli fault if Mitsubishi from a day to the next one decided to withdraw from the WRC (the news was given to Galli and to all the MMSP staff when they were in Sweden, testing the new car, so it was completely unforseen!).

It's not Gardemeister fault if there are no 2nd driver seats availbale. He would be a prefect 2nd driver to win the M1 Manufacturer Championship or a perfect 1st driver to win the M2 Manufacturer Championship, like Galli, but he too has to look for money and rent the car he can afford....simply a disgusting system...I repeat, in my opinion, it's not sport, it's simply busines!!

I dont know if you have discussed this yet, but could gigi get a drive with Fiat in the IRC, or maybe do it private(cheaply than wrc)?? I mean its not a bad idea, they already have some italian drivers, why not to bring the best one? would be nice competition against the others (Alen, etc)
