What a fabulous days racing in the Pyrenean foothills.
Racing on real roads, centred in a beautiful wooded park and local residential roads slap bang in the centre of town. Airport bus takes you to the railway station which is directly opposite the first corner, arrived at the track at 10am just in time for the 1st WTCC race.
Very much a follow-me-leader track, but very enjoyable to watch and was great to be there.
The Chevy’s were flying and sounded fabulous, well done to Alan Menu and Huffy. Andy Priaulx gave Farfus a run for his money in the 2nd race but just could not get by. What a great job carried out by the Farfus team to totally re-build his BMW overnight, after his flying and barrel roll demo the day before.
The supporting acts were the International Formula Masters (F3000), Peugeot 207 Spider Cup, Peugeot 206CC Cup, Mit’Jet Championship, being spaced framed cars with 1300cc Yamaha bike motors and modern GRP bodies such as the Megane, Leon, 316 etc. Very similar to our own Legends but slightly scaled up. They appeared to have great difficulty in controlling the back end round this track but did they go. From afar, they looked for all the world like little kids toy cars. Also running as support was the French/Spanish equivalent of our Seat Cupra Cup but all new generation turbo Leon’s. Don’t know how many were racing but it was a large number. They had two rounds that day, with just about 15 minutes between the back-to-back races. A swarm of these cars going by was an absolute symphony to the ears. To be honest they sounded far more powerful than the WTCC. From the rear, these cars look extremely mean and moody with the fender arrangement and the under-slung plating around the exhaust box. Our very own Tom Boardman was running in the middle order.

My photo’s of the day can be found on –

Fantastic photos..fantastic racing by all accounts.

Plenty of talking points again by all accounts. Shame Roberto Colciago couldn't make it due to an accident prior to qualifying and that he won't make it for Brno and that Massimiliano Padala will have to race in his place.
But on the bright side and staying with the Independent Leons Frenchman Anthony Beltoise did wel in a SEAT leased Exagon Engineering Leon. A 15th and 14th. Beating in race 1 other Leons of Emmett O'Brien, Miguel Freitas, Pierre Yves Corthals and even Gabrielle Taquini. And beating in Race 2 Olivier Tielmans and Luca Rangoni. He said when asked if we would see him again said "only if I get an exceptional result but realistically I won't appear again". Although I don't think that is enough for him to return he did well to get that exceptional result

Great pictures

Looks like there was a good support line-up. What are those mini-racers?

Tumbleweed does list those on the support series (Who said I don't read posts properly! :cheese: ). But I don't know what is what.

But I think from the pic you post, the series you refer to sound like the Mit'Jet Championship. TOCA used to run a Legends series alongside the BTCC until recently (I thought the Legends were going to be ex-BTCC cars) and the cars looked very similar to the one in the pic.
