View Full Version : Kronos going IRC
The rumours are telling that the Kronos team will jump WRC and join IRC with Pug 207's - WRC is too expensive, and the gap btw privateers and factory teams too big says Van Dalen.
IRC is growing fast !

Doubt they will do this mid-season as that could be really expensive...the move on 2008 to IRC is not a secret been told months ago.

I read yesterday that OMW has pulled the plug, so that Kronos has no sponsor for the rest of the season and Stohl has no driver. I don't think we will see Kronos in WRC for a long time.

Hope this is not the case. First Carlsson and now Stohl. Getting sponsorship for privateers will not be easy after this. Interesting to see how Kronos will handle this. By the way Mike, funny it was you that posted this after the postings regarding Carlsson ;) http://www.rallyforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=272848&postcount=68

I think Van Dalen really likes rally and I think its sad if he and Kronos will leave WRC.
Specially because of sponsors quitting because of uncompetetive cars with old parts wich give no results when they where promised something else.
If the Xsara still where in the hands of Citroen, with Stohl, Carlsson and ?Galli? as drivers, im sure they would be faster.
Not as fast as Loeb but probably as Sordo on gravel and Im sure they wouldve take some podiums.
Citroen would for sure lose teampoints to Kronos and thats not what they want so thats why I think they only allow older stuff on Kronos cars.
Kronos IS allready in IRC!!!!
The 3rd round in Ypres they will enter a 207 S2000 for Bernd Casier, afther that they will go to Madeira, Sanremo and Rally Du Valais.

I must say I am a bit disapointed by the speed of the Kronos boys this year in Citroen, good Henning did not pick them ? Stohl is pissed off I think, since he drove faster in last years Whale.
But I am equally impressed how fast IRC has grown - that is impressive !
Any bets on how many car-brands, teams and drivers for 2008 ?

If confirmed, where Matthew Wilson will go to folloew his 5 year plan? I have some doubts about that, maybe a change on the name but the Ford n. 2 team will probably continue.

Wilson jr. has a 5 year plan, and Henning Solberg has a two year contract.
So maybe it will continue in an other name.
Dont know how you can call Henning's car a Stobart Ford anyway as it is running in Expert colours, and I personally view it as an Expert Ford rather than Stobart car.
Stobart's have been pumping a lot of money into motorsport for the past few years, just wwonder whether they have a change of emphasis planned. I'm sure there will be "private Fords" whether or not they are called Stobarts I dont know, and also how can a trucking / transportation company expect the marketing rewards from WRC, do Tesco's decide I'll use a Stobart lorry because I have seen it on TV, or do they decide on the costs and performance of the logistics company when making their selection?

There are two ways of marketing:
1) External, towards customers (ordinary marketing)
2) Internal, towards employees (and suppliers)
In Norway the largest shipbuilding company used over 1Mil € in an television ad campaign. It was a enormous success.

Eddie Stobart must be a man that loves motorsport and has no problems investing some of his earnings on this sport as a healthy individual, even if the ROI is not enough. Is a question of taste and we must be grateful for that
If i was in his place certainly would do the same, but woth more attentiom choosing drivers :D you know what i mean :D

If only rallying was popular enough in the UK we might just pull that one off. However as it stands not one of the BRC organising clubs can afford to be even part of the IRC "supporting" series let alone host a round of the full championship.
