started to learn this track! it's dang cool! kind of like a combination of spa and zavendoft or something.

I've had to work on my set up a lot here - usually I rely on my brake bias to help my car turn into the corners the way I want, but there's a LOT of corner here that you don't need to brake my for, by you can take at full throttle either.

so I have to figure out how to make the car turn better.

looks like I'm gonna have to bring out the old PS2 and run this round, I love Brno :D

how you like the 360 harv? & forza2?

p.s. that model you're working on is unreal. those little baby seats blow me away. I've always wanted to have the tallent & pateince & attention to detail to do something like that

harvick#1
2nd June 2007, 01:10
its pretty awesome, Forza is just a GT ripoff all the way, I like it but its the exact same thing as GT.

thanks, I still got to assemble the engine with all the wiring, also the interior

What a great track Brno is!! Just had my first session in the Merc - set up is vital but difficult. Got the car handling very well & posted a time good enough to be 24th on Codies. In race trim this will be a challenging course.

ive been racing this track for a while now..its a great fast flowing track and i hope to do well in this race

Not going to do well here..

Gaming schedule has been disrupted by daughter's teething pains in the AM, and a 'night owl' wife at night..

Hope to have our times on time..

johnny shell
4th June 2007, 19:59
just put in a couple of passanger seats & take them along!

it'll be like driving around with an extra tank of gas but it'll work for practice - then for the race just make them get out.

or..stick them on roller skates..attach a rope to the back of the car..and tell them to hold on tight ;)

Our race was a very rushed affair- 3 laps practice and then into it...

Little girl is teething (molars- 2 at once) and she's sleeping horribly, robbing us of primo game time, but she melts my heart when she says "Dada" :D

Forgot about this-I'll try and do it, but I dont think I've ever even raced here before.

I gunned it until my tires wouldnt let me. Which wasnt very long.

oh well. at least you got some track experience so that next time we're running here you'll have some experience.

Sorry but I think that I may need a small extension because I don't have a much time this week to play.

johnny shell
6th June 2007, 21:48
yeah me too. I can run the race Thursday night while you're all sleeping then send them in Firday morning my time.

thanks!!!!

I havn't even done a practice lap yet :s

johnny shell
6th June 2007, 22:20
I've already done entire practice races at 110%. starting from the back just for fun.

me thinks I shoud spend more time doing chores :uhoh:

tannat

Ummm... if these extensions are granted, I may ask to resubmit.

Rushed our race so we could meet the deadline.

I think we need to try & stick to our deadlines like tannat implied - otherwise we will start to get problems. An extension every now & then is OK but its happening every race lately.

I've requested my fair share of extensions (especially from racer69) in the past. I've really no right to stand in the way of such matters..

Just expressing a mild twinge of regret.

johnny shell
7th June 2007, 15:53
I haven't been using the extra time to practice or anything, I just literally haven't been home.

I agree with peter, but overall I'm not against extensions to loyal participants who have good excuses. plus we usually need the cars anyway.

let's just all make getting the times in on time a higher priority

racer69
7th June 2007, 17:39
Sticking to the deadlines is obviously the preferred option, but you run the risk of a lack of entries. For instance at the deadline for this round, there were only 6 sets of times in.

Brown, Jon Brow
7th June 2007, 21:44
I'll try and get the times in tonight or tomorrow morning GMT.

My problem is that I'm working lots of overtime and revising for exams next week. I really need a good 2 and half hours to do the race. (2 hours to perfect the set-up and 30 mins for the race)

tannat
7th June 2007, 21:48
(2 hours to perfect the set-up )

I think I've spent a total of 2 hours on the DTM season thus far.

What do you do during those 2 hours? Tweak this a smidgen, that a smidgen, etc, etc?

Pretty much! But I also change the lines I take through corners and try to perfect everyone.
It's easy on a short track like Brands or Norisring (Hence there my best ones ;) )

But at places like Bathurst, Spa and Brno it takes a while. (Hence, me not being too hot at these tracks. :( )

tannat
7th June 2007, 22:07
Might be interesting to see how many laps/much prctice time each entrant has per round...

johnny shell
7th June 2007, 22:58
I've probably about the same time as Mr B.

depends if I know the track or not. if I know it and my set-up for the car is already pretty close, then I can do a few laps & be ready to run the race in a hour or so.

but here at Brno I had to learn the track, plus my base line set up was no good because of all the high speed corners here.

usually, I learn the track in time trial mode and work on my set-up at the same time. that's maybe an hour.

then I practice race set-up for maybe 30-45 minutes, then do a practice race to check tire wear & make final handling adjustments & stuff.

Brown, Jon Brow
7th June 2007, 23:57
Done the race.

I feel that it wasn't my best as the Opels did their best to ruin it for me. Coming up to lap Fassler, he swerved in front of me, I couldn't avoid a collision and it caused gearbox engine damage. Then half a lap later as I tried to pass H-Z-F he pushed me wide out of a corner onto the grass causing me orange suspension damage and costing time.

I was a bit harsh on the tyres round here and even though I went for 95% they were very worn by the end.

my race at brno was very good i feel..been testing at this track for a while now and i hope it paid off so will have to wait for the results

johnny shell
8th June 2007, 13:54
this has to be one of the toughest tracks we run on to get fast laps consistantly.

I saw where last year some of you were running in the 1:23s... I could barely manage 1:25s, and I had plenty of laps in the 1:26s, 1:27s, and sometimes even more.

there's just something about that track - it's like if you get off the line just a little you run wide on corner exit.

plus its bumpy and it seems like the pavement isn't flat or something.

all in all a neat track, just challanging and difficult.

johnny shell
8th June 2007, 14:47
I bet you'll need to be in the 16 minute bracket to get a podium here. maybe the very low 17s will do it.

Brown, Jon Brow
8th June 2007, 15:07
I got into the 1:23's in the race, but only briefly. After lap 6 my race was rubbish

johnny shell
8th June 2007, 15:27
I don't see where I could have picked up a whole second plus. that track really rewards smooth controlled driver like yourself I think. it seems to really seperate the men from the boys.

It's challanging but I'm kind of glad we only run it once a year and only in one series!

Brown, Jon Brow
8th June 2007, 15:31
What were you running in time trail? I nearly got into the 1:21's . Vuko has a mid 1:21 on codies

johnny shell

I'll have to check.

I have a feeling I'll be doing some testing in the czezh republic.

we're got some unfinished business there :bandit:

Brno has BEAUTIFUL flow. It's almost as if they gave a driver a blank slate to design a track. I'd be shocked to find out if any of the corner radii were not constant.

Sweet, sweet, sweet...

 BRNO

Brown, Jon Brow
8th June 2007, 19:01
I don't really find it that good.

I think it's a bit dull and all the corners are too similar. There aren't any corners on this track that float my boat really  Paddock Hill Bend at Bratch, Eu Rouge at Spa and Old hairpin at donigton do though :D

No offense tannat :p

johnny shell
8th June 2007, 19:35
imagine how cool it would be if it were as smooth as say, Bahrain.

I like the shape of the track & all - but I do think JB is right in that none of the corners are really anything special... there's just something in the paving that doesn't quite work.

it's either bumps, or that the road is like crowned in the middle or something - you know, like higher in the middle, like a public road, so that the rain drains off or something.

I can't quite put my finger on it... but the layout itself is beautiful. and I LOVE heading out into the forrest, too.

You're correct..

No hairy chest corners at this venue, and they are fairly similar. However, I think what has to be appreciated is the elevation changes, the attained speeds (this is a fast track), and it rewards precise driving.

The F1 broadcasters would call it a 'driver's track' :D

johnny shell
8th June 2007, 20:55
the elevations changes, the high speeds, the long length, and the 'character' and why I love about this track.

I'm sure it's quite rewarding to master this track.

I hope to know that feeling some day!

Peter Vuko
9th June 2007, 01:55
I think Brno is a magic track - as someone said a " real driver's" track but very challenging. I was running consistent mid to high 23's & low 24's in the race except for the last three laps where traffic was very difficult - it spoilt the flow you need to keep on this track to post good times - it could cost me the race!

Brown, Jon Brow
9th June 2007, 21:02
Well I won't win because I didn't have much consistency. Hopefully top 4 though.

Interesting to see the amount of people that like the Brno circuit. When it was first opened it was alomost universally panned as an inferior replacement to the original Brno circuit (now THAT was a racing circuit!)

Results shortly :)

Piotr Borkowski is beginning to pull away from Peter Vuko & I. He needs slowing down, that quali lap of 1:20.47 is astonishing.

The race was still very close with only nine seconds separating the top 4.

Interestingly, my race fastest lap was far closer to my qualifying time than Vuko or Poitr.

Poitr - 2.97 seconds slower in race
Vuko - 2.02 seconds slower in race
JB ----1.43 seconds slower in race

I can't seem to be able to extract the incredible pace you do on soft tyers. :\

What rubber did you use for the race?
