View Full Version : 2025 Race 23 - Qatar

Race 23, with a sprint race thrown in.

Well, last race I thought Norris had pretty much wrapped everything up - but the F1 gods showed never take anything for granted.

Max won Qatar last year. Piastri finished third, and Norris was 10th. If anything close to this happens, it could lead to an epic race 24. Or Bortoleto will do his impression of a "torpedo" and take out Max and Piastri to end the drama of the season.

The sprint format in Qatar should shake things up, and with the drivers' championship (https://www.formula1.com/en/results/2025/drivers) picture tightening, this weekend has the potential to set up a fantastic showdown in Abu Dhabi. With the conditions being stable for a night race and no weather surprises expected, it should be a pure performance showdown between the drivers and the machinery.

If you are travelling to Lusail and want to mix some exploring with the racing, this off-track guide (https://www.fanamp.com/tr/qatar-gp-off-the-track) should be really helpful. It points out great spots like Al Bidda Park, Msheireb Downtown, the Doha Fire Station art hub, and some solid food options around West Bay that are perfect for filling the time between sessions.

Who knows, maybe Gabriel will take out Lando at the first turn, leaving Max and Piastri fighting for the lead.

And then it would all come down to the last race.

Or RB could tell Yuki, make sure Norris doesn't finish the race, and you have a contract next year...

That's an interesting new driver incentive. :D:rolleyes:;)

Anything is possible at this point. Who saw a double disqualification coming for McLaren at Las Vegas?

Verstappen may take out Lando and open the way for Piastri to win. Or the other way round for a Verstappen win, which would rub salt into the McLaren wound if both cars DNF.

And we can all look forward to a court case in about 15 years if the FIA & F1 know about it and don't punish them!

Felipe? Felipe?

Is that you?

I can see it now. Yuki takes out Lando and Oscar at the first corner. Max over the radio... "Yuki is a legend".

He is signed for next year with a mega contract.

ETA: Lando still has it all wrapped up unless some very bad luck comes his way, or he simply chokes and creates his own bad luck. With only two races it's hard to blow a lead like that unless he is off the podium, and those McLaren cars should at least do that every race.

Does that McLaren look a little bit raised? We have to see in Qualifying where they are at.

Max was complaining of bouncing, so they have not figured out the proper ride height for his car.

No drama. If the main race goes like a sprint race, it will be a boring race with no overtaking. I guess we will see in qualifying if they learned anything.

Gasly, after the race, told Hamilton that the Ferrari car "it looks so bad" and Hamilton said "no shit, Sherlock".

Nah, Ferrari is shooting themselves in the foot, wasting such a wealth of information and talent. They are not making Hamilton look bad, really they are just advertising what a terrible team they are at the moment

Yeah, one of the most boring Sprints we have had I think. I sure hope the race is better.

With Max knowing he has to beat Lando to stay in the hunt, I expect him to be pushing really hard at race start. If he can't make the first turn work I expect him to push like mad for at least 5-6 laps hoping he can overtake. At that point if he can't pass, might as well see what strategy changes might bring. With a two stopper minimum it could amount to something.

And sure Lewis is struggling with the team. But he isn't doing himself any favors either. The fact that Charles is making him look lesser seems to boil over and result in frustrations getting vented, when he should have known the mess Ferrari has been for years now.

This is the one that counts. Who's gonna win it?

Rather, who would you like to win it? This is a Piastri track, so the odds are on him. But it is also a Verstappen track, so the first corner is going to be interesting. From 3rd place and on the clean side of the track,

The only "but" I can see is that 3 guys can still win it .

How a crap strategist can ruin a driver's potential to win. Piastri would be quietly livid.

The first turn didn't surprise me at all.

What happened a few laps later did.

McLaren dropped the ball big time. So now they go into the last race with Max firmly in Lando's head, and maybe Max and the RB team firmly in McLaren's head. They really still don't have to do much to pull off a Lando WDC, but shaking things up sometimes causes major blunders. The fact that they made this mistake shows that the pressure is still on, and humans can human it up.

Gutted for Hadjar, he had a great race going. And at the rate he's been going, Kimi will have the title of the new Minister of Defense. Up until the snap he was making keeping Lando behind look easy really. Carlos had a great run to end up with a podium. Fred kept the AM up in the points as well, Lawson in the points, and even Yuki managed a point.

It could have been so much worse for McLaren. The fact that the top three ran away from most of the field was the only thing that helped them.

Is this all McLaren's fault ?

It certainly ended up being a colossal mistake , but what were the chances of every single other team stacking the pit stops , giving them all no flexibility at all for the other stop ?
I was amazed when they all followed each other in .

It was then a stupid DRS train for the rest of the race , with everyone on the the same tire .

The idea of a limit on tire mileage is awful , in my opinion .
This is one major influence that created a boring race .

Perhaps Pirelli could make recommendations as to max laps without a specific mandate , so teams could take responsibility , themselves .
They don't want a blow-out , and have direct feedback from the car .

I was surprised that maybe some teams didn't pit only a single car, but giving up an almost free stop is surely a way to lose time in most cases. The fact that only three cars didn't make the stop more or less shows that point.

I can agree that it made the strategy kinda out the door, but it was the right thing to do. And it proved that teams don't want any more stops than they need.

I'm all for more durable tires all around really, and TBH I'd be fine without them having to use two compounds. If they are durable enough with a time delta some teams might opt to push the softer tires and faster laps for more of the race, hoping to overcome the harder compounds.

Well l kinda said it didn't l, McLaren f*ck up and open to path for Verstappen to win. The real question is, was it premeditated to ensure a Norris win.

Qatar is a bogie track for Norris, but Abu Dhabi is a Norris track. However, it is also a risky race for Norris. A DNF of any kind would gift the championship to Verstappen or Piastri.

If Verstappen somehow manages to steal the driver's championship, Brown and Andreas would be the village idiots all of the 2026 season . The dumb arses that let a driver championship slip away.
