Made the trip to see the Danish Touring Cars at Sturup in Sweden at the weekend.

And I am glad to tell everyone that touring car racing is doing well in Europe!

26 cars.
6 manufacturers.
BMW, Chevrolet, Honda, Peugeot, Seat and Toyota.
Star name drivers, Jason Watt, Jan Magnussen and John Nielsen.

There is so much enthusiasm from everyone involved... Plus, everyone I spoke to, could speak English!

It is well worth a visit... I'm going back!

Great pictures PDS, looks like plenty of action, and nice to see lots of different manufacturers represented.. out of interest, were the 407's any good?!

Thanks.

The Peugeot's, five of them, are not race winners, but, they did not disgrace themselves. Midfield, just outside the top ten!

Are they all works teams?

How do you rate the racing compared with btcc and wtcc?

Not all. BMW, Seat and Peugeot have works teams. There may even be two works BMW teams..
Interestingly enough, they have two independent Leon’s running!
One independent team is running FOUR BMW's and a Toyota Corolla.

Very similar to the BTCC. Although overtaking was difficult on the tight track, it did happen.

This is how the first two cars crossed the line at the end of race 1!...http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/gallery/v/Motorsport-Photography/saloon/dtc/489D7221a_001.jpg.html

Wow. I love the Corolla!

I wonder why DTC and WTCC Seat teams paint that big fake grille on the front of the car. It looks very strange because it overlaps the other 'grilles'.

This is the way it should look

But this looks awful.

That front bumper was used early 2006.
They changed it during the season to this on the WTCC cars. http://www.stillphotography.co.uk/gallery/v/Motorsport-Photography/saloon/album19/album84/489D7972W.jpg.html

How cool would it be to see a couple of Castrol 407 GTi's racing in the BTCC!

It's great seeing the Valliant logo and Green on a Touring car!

Remember the Valliant Porsche RSR?

Is the chevy not a works team then?

What amazes me is just how big this championship is for what is 'relativly' a small country. A very good mix of cars over there. Does anyone know what the support championships are for the DTCC- in Sweden they have superbikes as a support! ( imagine how amazing a joint superbike btcc meeting would be!)

The Chevy is an importer backed programme? Probably mostly private funded, but with a little input from Chevrolet Denmark.

Yes, sorry, they are. Listed in the programme as Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark!
In fact on their team wear they also have RML logos!

Apparently, it boosts the crowds when they run Motorbike alongside the cars!

Support races also include FFord, Clio Cup, (the old cars) The Advan Cup (a bit like Small class group N cars) hundreds of the little buggers and a smaller 1600 cc class race for the same type of cars.

A good mix of racing.

I wonder if you will be doing some STCC coverage and more DTC?

PDS

I will be going to a STCC round later in the year. It would be nice to go back to DTCC, but I don't think I will be able to.
