Hyundai is actively trying not to win.

That's pretty strange, throwing him in on such a tricky rally to learn the Rally1 car.
The only reason I can think off is it being in a 4th or 5th car besides sordo, just to learn the car.
But it wouldn't suprise me if Hyundai was stupid enough to nominate him for constructors points.
deephouse
5th December 2025, 09:58
Hyundai will never field 4 cars. At some point I was even thinking that they will not even have 3 cars at all, since they have those strange and unlogical decisions.
But we are happy Paddon is back. It's been so long we have him in WRC the last time. Wish him all the best (good results for team and also for him)

Will he get to learn it at all with all this rotation in drivers ? Afraid all of them end up with lack of confidendence and seat time. Hope i am wrong.

Why?
If there is parity in performance between current Rally2 cars and the new WRC27 cars then the top class will be much more accessible to privateers or works supported customers next year. Hopefully Monte could be like the old IRC days or even better.
This year it’s a fairly standard WRC lineup, with a poor RC2 entry.

It's gonna be tough, also rain/snow predicted for Friday and very low temperatures predicted on Saturday morning (up to -10), so it will surely freeze. Will be very difficult to get trough..
Thursday will be either wet/snowy or icy. Definitely not dry. Same for Friday, but higher chance for Thursday's rain to freeze.. Difficult rally where experience will be crucial, I would bet on Ogier here, even though he is starting first and "discovering" tricky places.

"It's been an extremely chaotic start for us," Thierry Neuville told RTBF's special correspondent at Monte Carlo, Olivier Gaspard. "We broke a transmission a few hundred meters after the start, and while trying to make it to the finish line slowly, a chain of events led to the loss of the front right wheel. This sent me into the ditch. We managed to get out of the stage, but it wasn't the start we wanted. With the transmission failure, the wheel locked up, and that broke the suspension, which sent us off the road."
"I admit it's very difficult to predict our performance level at this Monte Carlo Rally," continued the 2024 World Champion. "We worked hard, we did the best we could in such a short time and with the joker we still had available, but I'm still struggling to find the confidence I need to say I'm 100% comfortable with the car. But on a rally like this, you have to start slowly and gradually increase the speed. I'm always happy to be at the start of Monte Carlo and just as excited to start a new season. It's a clean slate and we have a score to settle; I hope we'll be able to bounce back."

More snow/rain to come today. I don't think that snow will last until the evening, I'm worried that the temperatures will be too high in the afternoon. Anyways, it will be tricky to be first on the road, even though forecast says 0-1 degrees, it could freeze in some parts. Looking forward!! SS2 will be the most difficult IMO.

The profile of SS2. Another 1 hour and 10 minutes to wait...it's going to be a long wait!
Unlike the version used for the 84th Monte Carlo Rally in 2016, the stage starts 3 kilometers earlier, in Esclangon. The first challenge is the passage through the Clues de Barles before continuing along a narrow but relatively fast section to Auzet. As the altitude increases, the climb to the Col du Fanget (1459m) is expected to be icy or even snowy, on a road surface that becomes increasingly difficult to navigate. Finally, a change of scenery with the descent towards Seyne-les-Alpes, a fast-paced section punctuated by some great hairpin bends for a spectacular show…

I didn't expect much from M-Sport, but right now the star of the show is Armstrong. That really shows that the only way of polishing the talent is through ranks and not by money. Also very surprised with Solberg, I really didn't see him coming so high so early, especially on Monte. Evans, stunning drive, but he is always like that. Start is good but then he is mentally destroyed by Ogier later and always lose against him. Hyundai again no surprise, it's not like that they changed so much things in the team and suddenly they would be up there. Their Rally1 hybridless car is a total junk. Also it doesn't help that Toyota upgraded their car not long ago, but it seems that if they wouldn't do that at all, it would still beat both other teams.
I'm just dissapointed again with live crew. it would be better for everyone if there would be only radio and few stages shown live. They just don't understand that we, the hardcore fans need to see action and not random stuff and the same corners all over again, while the real action does happen out of our reach. Oh and also those gaps are too big and I honestly think that stages are way too long.

what's the reason for salting the special stage?! I don't understand it. I suspect the special stage was closed this morning. why not just leave it as it is?! it only snows once every ten years or so, on the day of the special stage or the day before, and then the snowplow comes and salts it...l guess for safety reasons...
Good question, I would like to know that too.

I don't think that the organizers are making these kind of decisions. The municipality probably doesn't really take the rally into account.
I'm pretty sure the municipality has no say over the roads once they're closed down. It up to the organiser then.

It's the word he used, shitty, which will get him in trouble. If he would use bad, Hankook officials would have difficult time convincing FIA to fine Ogier of bad mouthing their product.
Of course it's classic Ogier reaction towards tires. If I remember correctly he also was criticizing Michellin's too, so I don't know which brand of tires would work for him, DMACK? Or none.

This could be a pretty good year to watch... Toyota doesn't do team orders, so we've got multiple skilled drivers competing on equal terms in the same car.
Basically it's like a spec series, with the hyundai and msport cars there too as a bonus sideshow

Hankook will do nothing, avoiding Barbra Streisand effect. Everybody else but us moved on already.

I can'nt imagine the last 3km of the stage.
Solberg won more than 10sec to everybody on the last kms.

Who would've thought. Wow. But why I have a feeling that at the end Ogier will have multiple scenes and still won this rally. It was always like this. No matter how much we wish it would be different, it probably will not be. The only one who is missing is Sesks. Then we would have 3 new kids on the block and M-Sport would be up there

Dirtfish saying Armstrong punctured a tyre near end of SS2. With only 2 super softs as spares is he knackered for the next stage? I hope thats not the case as he's driven so well on the first two in such illustrious company.

If true that's a nice gift they have given to ogier.
Clearly not cleared and salted enough. He must've cleared a lot of slush for the others to be that slow. And blaming the tyres is just frustration.

Why? This is why I like rallysport - you need to adapt to conditions. This is not formula 1 or even hillclimb, where they stop the race with almost first drop of rain...

This is a joke, everyone shout for the same thing. One thing is different conditions and adapting, but this is not SAFE at all. Imagine fans being at safe spots and driver not seeing road at all and going straight into crowd with nobody to warn them. It would be catastrophy.
Thankfully they stop the stage, I think too late, or I mean it shouldn't even started at all, but it is what it is. This is not normal, even for WRC standards. I hope just that the times would be cancelled for everyone to be fair, cuz nominal times never are fair
