Just after conclusion of Rally Finland Seb Ogier indicated he will be seen at the next WRC round in Paraguay. This might be an indication he will chase title number 9.
Hopefully he will do the double header in South America and also start Rally Chile 2 weeks later.

There is awful lot of rain forecasted for the days before the rally. It's a long term forecast, but still, it counts.
Could be a great opportunity for Evans to start first in CER and get finally his first WDC.

Not 100% sure about it, but it can be due to "fixed configuration for linked rallies" and if you decided something incorrectly a long time ago, you just lack the options to change it.

Probably a little premature to talk about the championship, but today may prove a turning point of sorts for Elfyn Evans he can keep it together. Evans got the starting setup right compared to others. Now the question is, if and how much others can improve their pace. For example, I don't expect Ogier to struggle through the rally.

Heller nor Serdenidis takes anyone's position away. If they don't rent the car, the car is just parked somewhere. The sport is expensive and only really a few get the opportunity to try it out, but I think it is not fair to direct the anger towards those who pay for their hobbies.

The spare engine Tanak's using also has an issue, so he's retired again in order to protect it.
Explaining that decision back in Concepción, Tänak said: “By regulation you’re allowed two engines per year. This is actually also the engine which we had a problem in Sweden and it’s also not in a good shape. So it was already getting on the limit on these two stages. So yeah, we try to save it for Super Sunday and hopefully it can take us through four stages.

Ah you made me look. No, the penalty applies to the next rally - CER.
Only if a car fails to finish a Power stage they can have a third engine penalty free but the retired engine does not get used again, so they'd have to sacrifice this result to be penalty free in CER and use a new engine, as I think Tanak has finished every Power stage, and like he says, they have used two this season.

If I remember correctly it was just one engine until this year and the only reason it changed was Tänaks issue at Estonia last year.
Of course there is the argument that cost saving measures like this don't change a thing as manufacturers spend the money they have, but if it wasn't for this regulation we still would have teams changing engines every other weekend.

The WRC has some stupid rules.
The manufacturers spent 60 miilions a year or more to win titles, and then they limite engines to only two?
A third one would blow the budgets? Seriously?
Basicly, they sent 40 miillions on R&D, almost 20 doing rallies, and then they couldn't spend 300.000 Euros on a third engine? Are these 300.000 on one more engine and 200.000 on one more gearbox that will blow the budget?
They blow the championship chances by saving 500.000Eur on a 60 milion budget?!?

Answer: NO
WRC Regulations
17.1.1 Each Manufacturer must use no more than 2 engines per car
name per season (see also Art.17.2.2 and Art. 17.2.3).
But
17.2.3 When a car does not finish the Power Stage, an extra engine
per car name may be allowed without incurring a penalty. No
more than one extra engine per car name and per season may
be sealed without incurring any penalty.
When an extra engine is used, the engine which was fitted on
a retired car (car name) may not be used any further during
the season (see Art. 17.1.4).
If Tanak does not finish Sunday they can use a new engine replacing on of these two damaged

What if some drivers are good destroying the engines more, some do destroy tires more, some do destroy whole cars more... I don't say Tanak do that. But last year he either was very good or bin it completely. This year he is very good but his engines fail often. It's also Hyundai's fault and their constant reliability issues from the beginning. But what other options do he have? Getting again back at M-Sport and can't achieve much. Toyota have too any drivers and it seems every one of them is somehow important to them. The best chance of getting out of team is in 2027. He could also step into Lancia's office and maybe persuade them into bringing the car on a Rally1 field, but I think they already have that plan.

It's complicated somehow in a sporting regulation... on 'engine block' they say that engine count link to a 'car name' and car name - driver name list should be given to FIA before entrylist was published. So in that case they can give to Tanak Fourmaux car.
But than 'chassis' block come.. and they allow 9 chassis per year, so chassis=car name and 9*2=18 engines allowed per year?

I think yes and manufacturer team can use up to 9 chassis per season. I don't know what's fuzz about here. Hyundai just puts this Tänak chassis into garage after this and take new car with new two engine slots.
Yeah lol.
If this was so easy, why would they have a used engine + damaged spare in Chile? I think there is more to the rule
The first probably wasn't a concern when they shipped it before it broke. The second (Sweden) engine is probably OK, just being protected yesterday with nothing to run for.
only for gearbox and diffs. And that link ends in Chile. Another one is CER/Japan
The link also applies to the chassis through 'per car name' in that rule. So the same car and engines were used in Paraguay.

You cannot look at one part of the regulations individually, it is far more complex than that.
You take away all the cost saving regulations because each is only worth peanuts, but all of them together not only are a significant cost saving factor, but they also steer the development in certain directions.
Yes manufacturers are gonna spend what they gonna spend, but if you were to open everything up, manufacturers would have left already or cried even louder than they do now.
Your numbers are also off as the rule limiting the amount of engines has a direct effect on the R&D cost. If you suddenly change the regulations to allow one engine per rally the manufacturers would start a new development war and spend a shit ton as this would change the requirements for an engine completely.

My understanding is that the car number 1 is always the car number one on the events, no matter the chassis.
The chassis used in Sweden by Tanak is not the same used in Chile, tthe plate number is dfferent.

Unless they changed the plates to the chassis number (the car name)?
17.1.2 Each engine will be assigned to a specific car name.
Ouch.

Okay, different plate number mixes up my understanding.

It´s time to decide the winner, or most pointscoring driver...

So it seems Ott won’t make it with this engine until the end of the day…

Doesn't sound good for Tanak already here, such a shame because his time seems ok!

Engine is "ending" already.
Is some idiot putting these logs on the road? Evans onboard looked uncomfortable with these little logs.
