Why are Rally TV doing this break after Rally1 cars. Hope I find the Live broadcast again. But you have to start all over again... Man, crazy!

Edit: No broadcast whatsoever from Rally2 cars on SS11. Hey Rally TV what´s wrong with you????

Never seen before that Tanak has been asking for stage times from reporters..
But maybe it is because he finally feels that they are on pace with others(with Puma).

I heard someone mention (rumour?) that in 2024 media coverage could be split for Rally1 and Rally2, so rally2 manufacturers/ sponsors can get more coverage.

Perhaps a separate 'Rally2 show'. (At the moment the only coverage for some Rally2 competitors is if they have a spectacular crash which is probably not the coverage the manufacturers or sponsors are seeking.)

They did break the broadcast after Pajari finished the stage 12. And totally missed Oliver. To see rest of the field you had to start up a new broadcast on Rally TV. Add to that the messy website and it took minutes to get to the new Rally2 broadcast. By then almost whole top field already was gone...

there is "the new Rally2 broadcast"? what is it, what I have missed?

One argument to this "mess" - maybe they had planned a bit more for Rally2 coverage and TV stage, but take into account, they changed interval to 4min - some minutes lost there. But, at the same time, at least 2 Rally1 cars are not driving...

This is getting a bit interesting - Neuville and Suninen fight for 2nd, or for "position in the team" (Neuville's ego maybe can not stand being slower than Suninen), there is risk to lose one of the car but team can not ask to drive safe, as Evans is not that far away.

Now it actually depends, do Evans give up for chasing Neuville and goes to cruise-mode for PS or not.

it was his own stupid mistake, but it wasn't because he was pushing too hard. he either made a mistake with the notes or he didn't listen to them.

I feared this would happen with Suninen when he said "I have to drive faster" at the end of the previous stage...

Based on past we all feared it coming and it came. It was not just the sentense at the end of previous stage. For me it's "Friday hero" side-effect - on Fridays he shows good stage-times from good road position and it may feel like "oh I can do it!". Then on Saturday and further comes reality from equal road position "shit, what happened, on Friday I was able to do it, so I need to improve" and then overdriving happens under pressure.

Maybe biggest fault was the never given team order.

yes, don't chop his head off, or fire him from Hyundai, but maybe a bit more "encouragment" to finish the rally would have been good

on the other hand I think he somehow put it in his head to beat Neuville, which is not necessary in my opinion. If he finished 10s behind Neuville it would have been 100x better than the current situation.

bluuford
1st October 2023, 16:17
For Teemu, It was not tree stump, there are no tree stump in Chile like this. There is water pipe under the road and they are using vertical wooden poles around it to avoid erosion with heavy rain (Lappis place was similar thing made of concrete), so, he basically turned the wheel slightly too early and that got stuck behind this thing.

Sometimes a mistake might not be big, but the consequences are, it's just how rallying is. Cut 2 cm too much - broken suspension, retired. Spin the car 10 m into a field - hit nothing, carry on.
Suninen could have done better, but was also unlucky for these consequences.

So Lappi & Suninen sharing the 3rd car? I hope for Lappi’s sake he won’t.

Loriaux and FX are there to make sure the car is better. Abiteboul was the one who stole Ricciardo from Red Bull for Renault. I would not underestimate this team next year.

Suninen and Lappi don't need to share the 3rd car if there are 4 cars. Neuville, Lappi, <mystery signing> and Suninen/others can be the 4 entries.

If Hyundai got Ogier or Evans it would weaken Toyota as a team by quite a bit. If I had to guess it's more likely Tanak going back.

It is purely my speculation/gut feeling, but somehow I had today the same feeling as when Tänak won the championship with Toyota and moved to Hyundai: he had to make a pause, searched for the right words and didn't have that emotion when thanking the team for the win in Chile. It kind of looked for me like: thank you for the great effort and win, but nobody can actually celebrate, because he is leaving the team. I cheer for the Tänak, but also for M-Sport and for me, I was really excited before this season and it would be sad to see Tänak leaving (but understandable). Time will tell.

I wanted to write something similar, but couldn't put word together..
Nicely said! It was a really important win and achievement for all the team and crew!

Totally agreed. Ott and Millener looked kinda too serious while winning.

Seemed like Ott in the head was :”yeah good to win but this all came too late and and it isn’t enough”

I can’t believe Becs didnt ask them about next year while she did from rally2 guys

Pajari said he will be in wrc2 next year but didn’t say more

My guess is Toyota for him

Yes this is quite sad. I think Pajari will go for Toyota rally2, Solberg will stay with Škoda I think

Maybe they had a gentleman's agreement not to ask anything about next year in rally 1, I don’t know, I hate it when they do that, being so secretive, like, it’s only 3 teams and he’s in one of them, it’s not like he has so many to choose from.

Im really glad to see that Thierry and Ott are in good relationship, we all know what was happening last year. But now they seemed on the podium really happy

Guy is enjoying the opportunity and getting the experience :)

.. or people need "new Serdenidis" here?

No my question was genuinely about his level of driving.

Munster got a 500eur fine - failed to acknowledge and respond to instructions sent via the FIA Safety tracking device in SS12 and impeded the progress of car nr 69.

For me this is a joke of the race. They really want competitors to read every stupid text on GPS unit during their competing on stages?

PLuto

And they changed the results of ss12 also. Now Kalle gat +19.5 with a national time... WTF? This is rally, shit happens!

This notional times for being slowed in the dust or by another competitor are poison of current rallysport...

Overall, a pretty good rally, would definitely keep in the calendar, would be nice to have it again, back to back with Argentina. Huge congrats to Ott & M-Sport, well deserved after the dismal season they’ve had, hopefully they can keep the momentum going into the final two tarmac events this year. Well done to Toyota too, who as predicted, won the manufacturers championship once again, I think as long as they keep Tom Fowler and their driver line-up will remain unbeatable for some time.
Gotta say, pretty excited about the next round, hope it will deliver. As much as it was nice having Catalunya at that time of year, it’ll be nice seeing more wet (at the very least I guess) conditions making the rally more treacherous.

Speaking of which https://dirtfish.com/rally/wrc/chile-and-argentina-closing-on-long-term-wrc-deals/

I presume running back to back with Argentina will mean it runs in autumn again, looking forward to seeing Chile all foggy and muddy again!

Yep, just saw this, guess someone out there thought the same thing ;)

But only from 2025, meaning (I’m assuming) Poland will fill in that slot next year (as the rumours suggested).

I'm pretty sure, it is just made-up translation and click-bait.
I think it's the same interview that people have posted here..

Since all the "journalists" are writing this about Tanak and Hyundai I'm starting to doubt it :P

Anyway good to keep Chile, i'ts nice to have South American rallies.

Yes, of course, speculations and clickbaits.
But I am pretty sure Ott will drive in Hyundai next year.

“It is pretty disappointing with what happened with Teemu and in particular, we had discussed the target for the team, and we were ready to secure the podium.

"I think he got a bit carried away with his position and maybe did not put the right priority in front of the right target.

“I hope we can all move on and he can gain in maturity after this incident, which doesn’t take away the fact that he did a strong rally outside of that.”
