Well, when they publish something :D The website says Sardegna maps should be out at the beginning of May. For Croatia, it should be 21th March so next week.

Hi all!
My wife and I are going for the first time to Sardegna. Really looking forward to it as it's my first gravel event.
I believe this rally is free of charge for spectators?
If you guys have some nice spots, lets say within 30min walk from the parking, please let me know (if possible with GPS coordinates).
Thank you,
Glenn

Hi Glenn, I went in 2018, it is free to spectators but if you can afford a gold pass it's worth it's weight in gold if you want priority parking without walking kms uphill in the Sardinian sun just to get to the stage, or be sure to get to the stages very early. I drove past kms of cars on some stages and I aim to get there early. Check if this is still the case and you might only need one for this purpose but will need one pass per person to use the viewing zones, a bonus on the parking really. Not really needed if you want to pick your own spot anyway. I perched in one zone at the powerstage which was heaving everywhere and I found it all to be a bit meh, gold or no gold.

As for viewing there was a spot on Monti di Ala I found in 2018 where you could see the cars continuously for a couple of minutes, from a spec in the distance to right past you. I imagine from the top of the hill you could see the other way too which would be ridiculous but I didn't feel the need to find out, I was happy. They cut some of it out in recent years so best wait for the route to be published to check/decide, but that was in the general area of 40.654271,9.244137. General pic:

I'm starting to prepare my schedule and searching some places with the onboard on WRC+.
Is there any info available of closed roads and parkings?
I had this info when I went to Germany in the past and this is a big help when making routes from one stage to another.
Can't seem to find this info on their website.
Thanks!

The years I went to sardinia, they used to upload maps of access roads to the stages and spectacle zones very close to the days of the rally ( less than one month if I remember properly).
If you have any questions about the spots don't hesitate to ask, if i can I will help.
Be ambitious with your planning!

Argentiera Power Stage is the place to be. I was there in 2017 (first WRC victory for Tänak), 2018 (Neuville beating Ogier with less than 1 second) and in 2019 (surprise victory for Sordo). This is probably one of the toughest Power Stages, especially last part around the beach with deep sand and loose rocks. But probably one of the most spectator friendly stage too were multiple options are available. The best part is on top of the hill (red color) were you can have multiple view of the cars going around the stage + finish. WRC Sardegna also means a whole lot of dust, it should not be underestimad at all. Being on top of hill means also mostly dust free + the sea breeze is really appreciated. But you can get closer to the action too if you wish for the 2nd pass by closely watching the wind direction. Added bonus is the beach which makes leaving after the rally a less pressing matter ;). Take care, this power stage has nothing to do with Argentiera, for navigating you need Porto Palmas, that is the name of the beach 2271

Sergiow
27th April 2022, 08:29
Here is map of the final loop for the Argentiera Power Stage in 2022, the yellow marker is a larger open field used as public parking just a few hundred meters from the stage. As said before come early to avoid most of the traffic, I usually was already on the stage between 7:00 and 7:30 am, action begins around 9:00 am2272

Sergiow
27th April 2022, 08:40
The Argentiera stage is also the SS closed to Alghero (if you are based there) with the most beautiful WRC service park scenery and background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKS-3VCWDus check 5:55 to 6:08 in the video: that is the fast downhill section towards the final beach road section, either depending the wind diretion you can sit close to the left or the right of this section. 6:47 to 7:30 gives you the view from the top of the hill when the cars are entering the final loop section of the stage (some corner are blocked from this view but most action can be seen until the finish)

WRC2 - Sami Pajari debut at the Rally Italia Sardegna. The Finn, after the first 3 appointments in wrc3 with the Ford Fiesta Rally3, will officially make his debut in the superior category aboard the Skoda Fabia Rally2 managed by TokSport. "It is a really nice rally, but done with a powerful car, I can't wait to do my first Rally2 event and drive around the world. Thanks for this route preview. A work of art. Some additional notes:
SSS1 Olbia – Cabu Abbas => right after the roundabout there is this incredible narrow entry into Via Tirso, seems to be absolutely no margin of error here https://www.google.be/maps/@40.929657,9.5054535,3a,75y,355.12h,72.01t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sgB9zPXBgyyr7h4occ8DPvg!2e0!7i1 3312!8i6656

SS6+8 Osilo – Tergu => last year me and my nephew went by car to assist on this stage in the opposite direction. To our big amazement the stage at Chiesa Santa Maria di Sassalu was still open 3 hours before race time so we decided to take a look with our car on the stage to find the best point of view and eventually found one were we asked permission to a farmer to leave the car at his property. When last rally car finally passed and stage was open again we headed back to our car and drove a big chunk of the freshly razed bedrock road in the actual race direction. Some amazing experience making you a try wanna be WRC driver but passing by the damaged and abandoned cars on the stage made you quickly realize this stage is no fun. The limited time that this stage is closed probably has to do with its common open road status because used by a lot of farmers living in the neighborhood.

Notice board on the official website, already 2 bulletins issued, see https://www.rallyitaliasardegna.com/notice-board/?lang=en. In Bulleting 2 there are some amendments to the Road Books, RB1: New Layout of SSS1 Olbia - Cabu Abbas. The gravel Area Circo part of the sss is now nicely drawn out:

All Hyundai drivers are very fast but heat is i20´s worst enemy. Puma drivers are probably too slow, Katsuta starting 3rd also slow, so my winner candidate is Evans and Lappi should make TOP 3 also.

The concern of the whole world circus continues about the great heat that could affect the 2022 edition of the Rally Italia Sardegna. As expected, temperatures started to rise from yesterday and the first steps in the shakedown showed that it will not be easy to manage the heat, especially inside the cockpits of Rally1.

There has been a lot of talk about corrections and solutions but, for this WRC appointment there was no technical time for substantial interventions (in Portugal it was raced just under two weeks ago). However, we tried to insert some small tricks.

Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed the reflective "film" in the roof tested in the tests and the cars yesterday at the service park presented this unusual color.

The Federation also intervened, with the approval of all the teams, with an exception to the regulation that allows the use of polarized glass on the front side windows. As specified in the official communication disclosed, the motivation is for safety reasons and to counteract the excessive increase in temperatures on Rally1 cars.

The FIA approves polarized glasses on Rally1 to combat the great heat

11.3 Windows/Nets (Appendix J - Art. 253.11) - add:
With the unanimous agreement of all manufacturers registered in the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship, the FIA has granted a waiver to Appendix J, Art. 253-11.1.1 and allows the additional application of silvered films on the rear half of the front side windows in Rally1 cars. This change is in consideration of extreme air temperatures recorded inside Rally1 cars and is implemented for safety reasons only.

This is a case for the clerk of the course and safety crews to plan for most eventualities.

I was one of those numerous people waiting on the stage for SS9. Thanks to WRC live I was informed that SS8 was cancelled and all cars initially were directed to the start of SS9 but we started to smell a rat when none of the official cars came by. And when WRC live finally broke the news with the cancellation of stage SS9 then some utterly confusion broke out. It took ome 10 minutes before the cancellation got through the radio of the marshalls. The internet vs radio waves.

Shame the day turned out like this because so far I've been loving how the itinerary sounds. Two different loops of stages per day sounds to me like a very spectator friendly format, and together with the proper stage in the city this has been sounding like a very great way to host an event.

Too good to be true sadly, but a promising concept.

First WRC2 car on the road (Suninen) had worst conditions today with 2 min gap to the Rally1 car before him.
I see that this stays the same for tomorrow.

Probably going to jinx it.

Again a good day as a Loubet-fan. Let's hope it lasts the whole rally!

Do they still have only 2 sealed (marked) transmissions /car for connected/paired rallies ? (must use same ones in Portugal and Sardinia ?)

Those can't be fixed, if it's broken it's broken ?
or can they open those seals between rallies ?
(I know that during rally it's forbidden to brake those seals and fix parts,)

What I mean:
Is Hyundai (Neuville and possibly Tänak) in trouble because they don't have any spare ones left ?

It’s very narrow and technical, 10 minutes plus for 12 kms.

Is it just me or are these cars really ‘fat’ and these kind of stages are just a bit too narrow for them?
