My first Crystal Ball Predictions

1. Tänak – most stage wins and WDC. Also, we won’t hear him complaining about not trusting the car/can’t go to the limit like in two previous seasons as now Hyundai behaves like he likes it.
2. Toyota - manufactures champions. Hyundai will lose it because Toyota’s 3rd drivers will do a better job.
3. Because of limited testing days and begin behind, Hyundai will do at least 3 local rallies with Rally 1 car.
4. Pirelli will be under pressure to build stronger tyres as the weight of the car has increased and there will be too many tyre problems.
5. Loeb will win a rally.

atsiotras79

2. Breen will win a rally
3. R5 car to finish in top 5 overall in a rally

Forgot to post before Monte but I'll be honest! Four predictions from me since one of my pre-monte assumptions was already wrong.

i. Greensmith will not win a stage all year...

1. Rovanperä WDC
2. Toyota WCC
3. Lappi crashes out of a battle for the win in Finland
4. Fourmaux nets two podiums, both on gravel, and helps M-Sport finish ahead of Hyundai in the team's championship.

So when Kalle will secure his first WDC? In New Zealand or maybe later in Catalunya? What kind of predictions made about this before the season?

Looks like New Zealand, unless Tänak can pull something special out of the bag.

AnttiL
13th September 2022, 15:49
NZ is still a quite long shot. Basically Kalle's only 100% sure way is to win the rally and power stage. Otherwise it depends on what Tänak does, and Kalle must have 8 more points than Tänak. Not easy with them having a similar road position, whether it's good or bad.

It will all come down to if it rains or not before/during the event, the roads in NZ are similar in style to Finland, minus the jumps, so it could like you said go either way, hopefully both cars won't run into technical issues so we'll have a straight fight from the start until the end.

AnttiL
13th September 2022, 16:08

I would disagree ;) by average speeds the fastest stages in NZ are on the same pace as the slowest ones in Finland. I think the difference is down to the grip level and also more sinuous roads in NZ. But the similar thing with these two rallies is that the surface of the road is hard and durable for rallying, whereas all other gravel rallies are either rough, soft or muddy. NZ also has a lot less variance within the road profiles, it's more or less the same, whereas in Finland there's a clear difference of small/rough/slow roads and wide/firm/fast roads.

Yes average speed, it goes without saying, although it's relatively fast to what we just had in Greece but it has a natural flow like in Finland in it's wide/firm roads.

Yes but we're still in a different league in NZ. More like "smooth Portugal" or "Mexico without the altitude and rocks" or "Wales without mud".

2. Yes and yes I think - Solberg was nowhere and if there had been someone like Sordo all year, then it could have been a different story.
3. Nope, not a single one.
4. Nope again. Actually Pirelli did quite a decent job this year. If you don't talk about them, then it means that the job was quite good.

3. MSport not worst scoring manu on every single round (like in 2021), Hyundai will be at least once
4. Two drivers get their first podium
5. Fourmaux beats Solberg in driver standings

1. Correct, easy pick both before season and now.
2. Correct, again much easier (Breen 7th!), note that at same time last year he was tipped for WDC
3. Correct, but Hyundai was worse only in Monte!, Toyota was worse in Sardinia and Greece, so "close".

4. Wrong, no new podiums (nobody of Fourmaux, Solberg, Greensmith or Loubet got a podium), might have been a bit optimistic as I thought new rules will be like 2017 with new drivers getting podiums due to bad reliability of cars and quicker adaptation. Instead it seemed like "new" drivers struggled, only Loubet improved.

5. Wrong, I was expecting Solberg to struggle but not Fourmaux (certainly not as much)

1. Ogier not winning on the events where he has a good starting position, cause every time the conditions are against him and says at stage ends: "all the years i was first on the road and had the worst conditions, now i start from back and still the same"
2. Evans and Neuville struggling to adapt to the new cars but get better as the season progresses.
3. Fourmaux leading an event and is close to winning it but something happens on the final day.
4. Breen gets his maiden win in Sweden but overall doesnt live up to the hype and expectations generated pre-season.
5. Tänak back to 18'-19' form and taking the title.

1. well, in a way correct, he didnt win a gravel rally where had better position. got only one win and that actually where his starting position was worse as for others.
2. Right about Evans
3. lol so wrong
4. even i was too optimistic about him
5. Well, not really but definitely his best season with Hyundai and the car he had also say in development. he definitely proved that he hasnt lost anything what he had in 2019

let's have some fun:

1. Ogier wins all rallies he enters
2. No driver wins more than 2 rallies except for Ogier
3. No major issues with the hybrid electric system
4. Split championships (winning driver is not from winning constructor)
5. No co-driver changes for full season Rally1 crews

So my 'fun' predictions were predictably not true:

1. No
2. No, quite the opposite
3. In my mind if this was similar or less bothersome than power steering failure i would accept it, however there were too many issues and people retired because of it so it's a no.
4. No
5. No

0/5

1. Toyota will win the manufacturers championship
2. Breen will get his first win but won't finish in the top 3 in the championship (hope I'm wrong!)
3. Fourmaux and Solberg both get their first podiums
4. Evans will win the Championship
5. At least 6 different drivers will win a round.

Definitely was too optimistic for a more open season ...

1. Correct (admittedly an easy enough prediction)
2. Not even close to a win unfortunately but got the second part right
3. 6th place and 4th place was as close as they got but neither showed close to podium pace
4. Not remotely close either unfortunately
5. Almost - 5 different winners - really expected at least one of Evans, Lappi, Breen to also get a win.

1.5/5
Here's to next year!

1. Oliver takes maiden win
2. Ott goes to Toyota after this season
3. Neuville WDC
4. Hyundai wins manu title
5. Loeb on podium at least one time

1. Surely big no. = 0
2. Well, let´s see
3. No Neuville = 0
4. No, no ,no = 0
5. Yes, indeed = 1
Result 1 or 2/5 :) :)

1. Loeb will get the taste for blood and changes his plans
2. NOT will post again in the Acropolis thread
3. WRC will get a new maiden champion
4. Fourmaux finishes ahead of Greensmith in standings
5. Katsuta won't be on podium in 2022

Nearly got three out of five, but Katsuta's podium at home brought it down to two.

Katsuta also had podium at Kenya

Don't make it worse now :D Can't figure how I managed to blend that fact together with 2021 podium.

1 - An R5 (Rally2) car will finish 5th or higher twice this year
2 - Tanak's luck finally turns and the title fight will be between him, Evans & Rovanpera
3 - Paddon will make waves on the rallies he does and fights at the top in NZ
4 - Hyundai wont have named a replacement for Adamo until after Sweden
5 - Craig Breen will make "Flat to the Square Right" the most used phrase in Ireland as he becomes more famous due to good results! :)

1 - Nope
2 - Kind of, second half of the season and the fight was between Tanak and Rovanpera, Evans wasnt near
3 - He did well in the events he did, and won WRC2 easily in NZ but I was talking about Rally1
4 - Yes and still don't have one!!
5 - Unfortunately the results were not there for Craig in the second half of the season (first half actually wasnt that bad but people forget). Still the phrase is getting more and more used!! :)
