Phew... very, very difficult stage to start the rally - even tougher than expected! Exploding head We had some big bumps and a 19G impact marked on the FIA tracker which shows what these roads are like! Need to do some checks before SS3 now I think Wrench #SafariRallyKenya

He has some kind of issue causing his car to crab. I sure hope this rally doesn't end on day 1 for him already.

He hit a bank with the rear after a big bump.

Solberg stopped on road section

His i20 is crabbing badly following an impact in SS2, with the rear wheel out of line. Sounds like there could be some sort of suspension damage.

We actually don't know when that happened. Also it's some distance to the rock (200m ish), he couldn't get out of the car at first (see onboard) and they would try to see if they can fix the car.

So not liking what you suggest.

If you want to follow this line there is a driver that went to warn his "mate" from other team relatively recently and didn't warn his teammate.

I was half joking. I'm pretty sure he won't be in trouble for removing the hazard from the road, even if the timing looks a little odd. Now if he put it back later, like what others (also jokingly) suggested... that'd be a different story.

Ok so just for curiositys sake.

You have a problem with the car and the stage gets red flagged. You limp it through and gets a notional time.

Can the stewards award you a different time to everyone else who drove through the stage because they judge that you would have lost time compared to everyone else or is there a rule saying everyone gets the same time regardless?

11 WRC cars started the event, in first 4 stages:
* 3 retired (Evans, Sordo, Bertelli)
* 2 nursing (Ogier, Solberg) + Tänak?

... and now comes 2nd pass for the same loop.

Evans retirement was clearly his fault.
Solberg also did hit he bank as he said. So much that the collision warning started flashing.

Ogier had 2 moments, might have been the damage started on one of them.
Sordo is a bit unclear atm, maybe broke steering before the crash.

I mean compare it with Sardinia where all kind of cars started breaking by themselves immediatelly (Rovanpera, Greensmith, Loubet).

2nd pass will be much rougher though.

Each driver can have own time.
Usually 1st and 2nd passing times are compared

Just read an update saying Solberg retires from roll cage damage which is surprising to me.

The suspension is hanging from the car, but how the roll cage is damaged is a mystery to me.

That's definitely rally rally over.

Well if there was 20G impact warning flashing, maybe the impact was that big to alter the geometry of the cage.

Maybe the rollcage parts that connect to the rear suspension turret were bent/broken?

Well if there was 20G impact warning flashing, maybe the impact was that big to alter the geometry of the cage.Depends on where the hit was, but it's the rear right that's hanging off.

The only roll cage there is usually the rear x-brace tying the rear shock towers together.

If he had an impact so hard that he bent the roll cage through the wheel, the control arm, the shock absorber and spring, through the tower and then bent the cage, that would be absolutely insane.

The wheel is still attached btw. Just at an awkward angle.

Solberg crashes after 2 mins of Shakedown and then retires due to damageon first real stage. Imagine if Loubet did that.....

IMO he really needs someone to coach him when he should take it easy, not sure his parents are the best for that.

EDIT: Maybe experienced codriver like he had in Arctic would help.

Obviously it's because of the badbad hybrid version..

When you try to troll at least check first.

As pointed out already 2 days ago after shakedown he was actually running fully "old" version of the car from pre-2019 Finland, at least aero-wise, not the "Loubet hybrid".

But he is definitely not running full factory car like he did in Arctic or Alba.

The first few pictures of him working on the car, everything looks intact suspension wise.

The second sets of pictures where he's working it looks like the mounting tabs of the rear control arm has been sheared from the car.

Guessing the damage is in the floor, where the cage fastens in front corner. Smacked by the damaged suspension.
Has to be the only logical explanation IMO.

That damage has been done over time by driving on the wheel with damage.

And the strut and wish bone is not rally ending kind of damage. Remember Lefvebre with similar kind of damage continued a few years ago.
