Has been Top 3-5 this year in Finnish Championship, so he is quite good.
Both have entered with Rally2 EVO, not with old R5

Pietarinen should fight for win (if WRC "stars" don´t enter)
Lindholm ? depending how good MRF-tyre is
Heikkilä is Top10 material
Pynnönen is also faster than some ERC regulars

Would be a great warm up for Estonia ;)
Perhaps more realistically I’d love to see Solberg and Gryazin on the entry list.
I think Solberg just said he is going to Latvia.

Crazy restrictions for a lot of european countries - probably quite a lot of teams will skip this round I guess. Questionable if this should be with ERC status then.

I just can´t believe that Eddie is suggesting that someone who has car/connections is not allowed to take factory seat, every single factory driver have good management behind them.

Loeb won WRC as a privateer 14 years ago. There were countless such "privateers" since then. Nothing has changed. It's only about the name of the entrant on the entry list. When it's Oliver Solberg, it's privateer, when it's Skoda Motorsport, it's manufacturer.

ERC star Alexey Lukyanuk described yesterday’s Rally Liepāja Qualifying Stage as the “worst of my career”.
Lukyanuk, who tops the FIA European Rally Championship following his highly impressive Rally di Roma Capitale triumph last month, was ninth quickest through the 4.61-kilometre Welcome to Latvia stage in his Saintéloc Junior Team Citroën C3 R5.
“The qualifying [was] not really fantastic to be honest,” said the Russian. “It was not the start we were hoping for. Actually, finishing the qualifying I thought we were quite okay, I believe at my maximum but it looks like small things delayed us on the way, like being first on the road after the two-wheel-drive cars. It looks really strange and frustrating but I think it’s the worst qualifying of my career.”
While the Qualifying Stage was a frustrating affair for Lukyanuk, the Pirelli-equipped driver said the fact he was able to reach Liepāja as a “small win” due to travel issues.
“I actually had some doubts we could make our way to the rally,” said the St Petersburg-based driver. “At some point I thought if we get to the rally then already it’s a small win and it was a big relief when we finally made it to this location.”

Hard to tell exactly as it’s two different stages but it looks to me like the Hyundai runs a higher top speed and tops out later than the Citroen.

Quite some ride with Solberg, that car looks so nimble, seems you can fling it at the corners and any speed you like..

A bit about our accident on the SS4. Today we were really trying to get the most out of our car. I was enjoying this stage, and I was pushing hard when the car went off the road under braking in a left-hander. It could’ve been because of our tires that had been worn out worse than we expected in this rally. I thought I was braking well in advance before the corner but actually it was too late to turn.
It’s a great shame that we didn’t get to fight for leadership until the end. It’s still unclear whether our car will be fixed. It’s a two-hour drive from Talsi to Liepaja, and our mechanics are likely to spend the whole night working on the car. We really hope that our car gets done on time and that we are able to continue to rally.

Seems Lukyanuk isnt bothered he's just getting points for the Title. If Solberg was was doing the whole Ch'ship it would be a great battle.

Lukyanuk had a one-day PET:
'I hope that, having begun with last year’s starting settings, we moved forward during the test day and found the most optimal ones – we were able to prepare better and will show a good pace right off the bat.'

ERC1 Junior win must be nailed on for him. Is there a big cash prize again this year ?

Logistically he can do only two last tarmac rallys. And seems that VW Polo #1 owned by Solberg seems didn't have a tarmac spec suspension. So he can rent some other Polo and not wait till car comes from Sardegna to Hungary. And now not clear which rounds will be with Fabia and which wit Polo..
WRC2 title is much more better, that we see that ERC not so competitive

Back from Liepaja. Short and quick impressions.
Solberg. VW Polo still is the best R5 car. It's awesome to see how stable it is - like iron on ironing board :) Oliver did the good job of course.
Gryazin, Tried to match Solberg pace very hard. In SS4 in place we were he left nothing for reserve he was on 103% there. His crash looks quite strange tough. Those who have rolled there in previous years did it after that access road which appears on crash video. Now this corner will be "Gryazin corner" forever - because he has rolled there in opposite direction (Rally Talsi 2016) too :)
Lukyanuk. First day he was the good, old Luky. Aggressive, attacking... just wow. In second day seems like he decided no to rush, just solid drive.
Ostberg. It was so visible what it means - to be a professional rally driver. Most perfect lines from all.
Breen, Lindholm, Pietarinen - solid drive, very enjoyable to see.
I must say it was great pleasure to see all first 15 cars. All of them tried to show the best they can. My driver or rally - Gregoire Munster. Especially in a first day. 7th place after first day and in overall in a such company it's outstanding performance. He could ended his rally in SS8 where few hundred meters from our spot he took a very strange line and traces on grass showed he was inch away from hitting road sign. I'm glad he stayed on road.

Oliver is this year ERC level :-) And to say the truth, he was unbeatable in Liepaja. And Ostberg? Nobody of others was taking care about him as he was not scoring points to ERC. That is also reason why Lucas was not trying to catch him during Sunday as it makes no sense for him...

Lucas is in different position this year. He has lost some sponsors, so his budget is much tighter than usually. Which means less testing before events and more pressure not to crash... Like I wrote, Oliver was unbeatable this weekend and fighting with Mads has no sense for him.
