For the Italians: at the end of last season, with all the controversy regarding nails on the road to harm some drivers fighting for the title, Campedelli and Orange1 Racing owner (if I am not mistaken), said they wouldn't compete in CIR in 2020. Has this changed?

It´s not his (Solberg) car, it´s rented from Italy.

His website explains:

While Oliver might not have competed on asphalt before, he has an enviable record in Italy. In 2017, shortly after his 16th birthday, he made his competitive debut in a World Rally Car at the Bettega Memorial Rallysprint in Bologna.

Despite never having driven a Ford Fiesta RS WRC before, he finished second overall, beating M-Sport Ford World Rally Team factory driver Teemu Suninen and only losing to Toyota Gazoo Racing star Kalle Rovanperä.

Little wonder Oliver likes Italy.

“That was a fantastic event,” he said. “I was driving with PA Racing then and it’s really nice to be back with these guys again. They have lots of experience with the car and the rally, so we are really in a good place with them.”

PA Racing sports director Matteo Bottacin said he was delighted to see Oliver back in the team.

Matteo said: “Oliver is one of the most promising young people in the world. In 2017, he was not even of 18 age, and at the Bologna Motorshow he went very, very fast with our team.

“I am sure that this year, at the Rally in Rome, with the support of Pirelli and Volkswagen Motorsport, with Oliver we can get a good result. We are very happy to work with Oliver again.”

Amazing list and a nice surprise to see Antunes in it; best luck for him and also for Almeida.

Gutted for Magalhães; with the calendar changes Hyundai Portugal was forced to quit their ERC program as their main aim is the national series.

I think this is a bit of a joke, tbh. If they were that fussed about getting a result, why only send Fourmaux? Why not Lappi or Suninen? Or if you don't want to risk them, bring back Camilli? Fourmaux hasn't really shown that well in any event in an R5, be it the new Fiesta or old one. They sent Fourmaux because he can be blamed if the car looks slow. I hope at least that M-Sport actually paid for his drive if they're going to have a go at him...

It's hard to state the case against the Fiesta R5 Mk2 here in Rome when Formaux has a puncture then crash, Mayr-Melnhof had an engine issue & puncture and Cais damaged the suspension.

M-Sport team principal Richard Millener told DirtFish: “Adrien rolled in the second stage. This is a massive disappointment for us. We came here to show what the car was capable of and we’re not going to get the chance to set a single time".

“Firstly, I am relieved they are both OK, it has been a huge impact and although I understand it’s a very fine line between bringing the car to the finish and pushing to be competitive, we needed Adrien to find that balance. He hasn’t and now we have a car which is destroyed. We had high hopes for Adrien. Like I said, very disappointing.”

Yeah can’t compare Breen with others because of the tire difference.

Yeah can’t compare Breen with others because of the tire difference.

Same goes for Lindholm, he never pushed 100% in this rally.

If MRF is OK in Liepaja both will be much stronger there.

But mission is accomplished, MRF has gotten a lot of data, and compared their tyres with both Pirelli and Michelin after stages. Number of pictures, film and rubber analyses have grown. Next asphalt rally they will have new compounds to test!

Talking of tyres, they pointed out on the live programme that Luky is back on Pirelli this year. He used Michelin last year but Pirelli before that. Perhaps a factor in him being a little off colour last year.

Nice rally and a great way to resume international rallying; congrats to Roma organizers and the ERC.

Hope Breen and the young Solberg will be able to improve and give a proper figth to Luky in the next events, otherwise the series will be a walk in the park for the Russian.

Congrats to Torn for ERC3 win but also to Antunes for the figth he gave all rally long. Despite the last stage off he clearly show to deserve a place in the series; now it’s time for our ASN to back him properly. Força Pedro!

Anybody who was there as a spectator? How was it different to visiting rallies before Covid? On videos it didn't look much different :)

Same for me. I was quite positively surprised with the MRF crews pace.

Yes he said he was especially happy to have Italian rubber for these Italian stages.

I assume its a deal for the season. Lets see how they do on gravel.

And what can we say about Breen's result? A slight disappointment, isn't it?

Athough he seems quite happy:
"It's not often I would be happy with finishing 4th, but after all the hard work, the testing, it has been immensely satisfying to have been competitive with our MRF Tyres! Both the tyres & the i20 R5 performed faultlessly, we still have some work to do but thank you MRF!"

Considering the decades of development their competitors Pirelli & Michelin tyres have had, MRF and Breen did a great job here.

The Portuguese had fought his way into the lead during a thrilling battle with Ken Torn only to crash out on the very last stage at the wheel of his all-new Peugeot 208 Rally4.

“The rally went quite okay until the last stage,” said Antunes. “We were with a good pace, fighting with Torn and congratulations to him because he did quite an amazing rally too. In the last stage we were trying to push and we thought we don’t need to really push because Torn was behind and we won the stage to him in the second pass so we were quite okay.

“We were doing exactly the same time but it was a really fast section and when I brake the rear of the car just went sliding. It wasn’t because I was pushing too hard, it was like the tyres were used, the brakes were almost at the end of the rally and it’s what it was.”
