I don't like these gaps either. They're fundamentally unavoidable, rallying wouldn't be rallying as we know it without them. But "the bad things happen for a reason" is not the same as "they are not bad".
It's just one of the things you have to take into account when you decide whether you want to watch the whole of every rally.
Road cleaning rallies like Sardinia are similar -- they're good for people who just follow the championship table, but they're miserable if you watch the rally and realise that car and driver are minor compared to starting order.
So, basically we're screwed. ;)

Well done Oliver, impressive job on a demanding stage! But remember everyone, it's not reasonable to compare the times with Kalle today since Kalle can secure the title by just playing it safe whereas Oliver has nothing to lose. Hopefully we can still see these two fighting on equal machinery.

https://www.autosport.com/wrc/news/146405/chicane-deviation-row-brewing-at-rally-gb
This morning stages showed what was missing yesterday in that messy chicane: plastic film gathering the bales to form a barrier and large boards instead of tinny arrows.
Two wrongs don’t make a wrigth; it was stupid having penalties in that Argentina barrier as it’d be having them in yesterday chicane. Officials (and fans) with a punitive mind should for once realize that road limits on a stage are different from those in a racing track and rally drivers are supposed to use improvisation as a way to surpass rally roads challenges.
Btw, those calling the roadbook tend to forget that drivers having an off on a stage are actually also not respecting the roadbook indications (and so are those driving around after a spin); sensibly no one asks for their penalty as no one should ask after a minor bale deviation or a bolder corner cut.
Let’s not ruin this fantastic sport.
AnttiL

Well, penalties from deviating from the road book are always given by the stewards and it's a human decision, it must have been beneficial to the driver. If you have an off or a spin, it's not beneficial.

yes because damage maybe has to do with rollcage near the chassis mounting points, something wasnt easy to inspect with no service today, but just tyre fitting zone.

Yep. With team-decisions (and with speed) Tänak-Neuville-Ogier will be in Top5, question is, how much Evans could mix it up.

Only 38 km today with even a service in between. Quite bit of tarmac driving on gravel chassis. All stages are different to each other in character. Alwen is fast, Brenig is slow with some tarmac at the end, and Great Orme is all-tarmac.
