If anybody is interested in competing against others in rally predictions there is a great site for this:
www.splithut.com/pickems

You have to drag and drop your predicted top10 pilots. For each correct hit you get points. And the points are given as follows:

If you get the rally winner correct, you get 10 points.
For the second place hit correctly, you get 9 points.
Third -> 8
4 -> 7
5 -> 6
6 -> 5
7 -> 4
8 -> 3
9 -> 2
10 -> 1
And for each pilot you put in your top 10 that actually made it to top 10 you get 1 extra point. It doesn't matter if their position is exactly correct.

And when the rally is finished the points are calculated automatically. You can see how you or your friend did by clicking on their name or the rally score. Correct hits are displayed in green.

Hope to see you guys around and make 2019 a fun season!

PS. Could be that at the end of the season the winner will get an award!

You and Mintexmemory? Or?

What is the massive work? Is it manually filling in answers from one hundred chaps guessing, or what??
The rest I believe without being nörd, should go automatilly? Is that right?

That seems like a lot of work to me. That's why we created Splithut, let that do the work.
In addition to the system calculating the points for you we are adding filters so you can see how you position within your country. And also a name filter with multiple entries, so you can see a smaller group of people (soon we will add a group system instead of the name filtering).

So basically we are trying to create something that makes rally an even more fun experience. It's a work in progress this is only the beginning.

I started Pickems for RMC. I Think we had some 70 lads guessing… But we still miss someone who can do the job for Points... :(

If someone can figure out how to convert the entries from that thread into a single data file, I could rather easily create an excel spreadsheet for calculating the results. The data file could be for example something like this:

Participant1 1 Ogier 2 Tänak 3 Meeke 4 Latvala 5 Neuville 6 Loeb 7 Lappi 8 Evans
Participant2 1 Ogier 2 Tanak 3 Lappi 4 Loeb 5 Latvala 6 Neuville 7 Evans 8 Meeke
Participant3 1 Tanak 2 Ogier 3 Meeke 4 Loeb 5 Lappi 6 Neuville 7 Mikkelsen 8 Suninen
Etc…

Of the top of the head I cannot figure out how to get that done automatically, doing it by hand requires more time than I would be willing to contribute. I could handle creating the excel and posting the results from that point on. Unless of course someone would be willing to share an already working (automated?) spreadheet.

Sent you a private message. With regards to the rules i suggest to use the same scoring as last year (with the opportunity to drop the lowest score at the end of the season)

Since spiderem has presented the data exactly how I requested for Monte, I really have no excuse not to do it :) I will spend some time on it tomorrow, ill see how far I will get. I'm sure I will be able to post Monte results some time next week.

I will then use dupanton's scoring system from last year:

U\P 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
1 25 14 8 3 1 1 1 1
2 15 18 11 6 1 1 1 1
3 10 14 15 9 4 1 1 1
4 6 10 11 12 6 2 1 1
5 4 6 8 9 10 5 2 1
6 1 2 3 5 6 8 3 2
7 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 3
8 1 1 1 1 1 2 3 4

The lowest scoring round will be dropped.

If there are any other requests or proposals for the rules, let me know and discuss it here.

Ok here we go, I am finished with Monte results. If spiderem agrees to provide me with the data file for upcoming rallies same as this time, we have a working solution!

I went with the same scoring as last year:
https://i.ibb.co/zX46fCn/scoring-v1.png
I flipped the results/prediction axis in the table for my own reasons, the system should be exactly the same.

In case of equal score, the win is given to the better prediction of 1st place. If that is equal then better prediction of 2nd place gets the win etc... If all 8 predictions are equal then I dont know. A cage fight to decide? Or maybe we will just agree with a tie.

As mentioned before, in overall standings the lowest scoring round will be dropped, starting from Sweden.

Below are preliminaty results for Monte. Please check that your score is correct, if there is a problem, send me a PM. After 1 week I will change the results to official. If you have any proposals for changing/improving the rules, post it within a week as well.
Also one more request for the future. Please check the spelling of names in your predictions! I might notice and correct them but I cannot quarantee you will get your points for a misspelt name I dont mean the use of special charachters, Tanak instead of Tänak and Rovanpera instead of Rovanperä is ok. But Nuevill, Tidemann or Oger may not go through, I dont plan to go through all entries in the future.

Without further ado:

Rally Monte Carlo
Very close round with top 3 all at 80 points. Victory goes to Ucci while papar007 and sidrum share the second place

Thanks for the scoring! Yes i ignored people who didn't follow the rules for typing pickems (1. Ogier or 1) Ogier etc). It is a timely exercise to convert to excel, i don't necessarily want to spend more time correcting typo.

Agree on the cage fight for equal scores, there are few specimens on this forum, that should keep us entertained for a while.

I commit myself to provide excel after each round, as long as people can create the pickem thread on the forum?

May the best win.

I suppose the problem might be that the rules were not presented anywhere this year, so newcomers did not know. Rallyper, perhaps you can add it to the pickems threads from now on. Also remind people to check spelling. So 2 rules:

Present predictions for the first 8 positions. Predictions must be presented so that a name follows the predicted position number, there should be a single space between the number and name. Do not use any charchters, such as . or ) behind the numbers. Present predictions for the first 8 positions. Sample of correct prediction format for first 3 positions:
1 Ogier 2 Neuville 3 Tanak

Use correct spelling of names. Using regular characters instead of special characters is allowed (a instead of ä) Other than that the spelling must be correct. For example, Tanak is ok, Tank is not ok.

The above rules are because a half-automated system is used for the pickems and predictions not made according to these rules may get ignored.

OK i'll put the data together and share with Kradovech in the coming days.

Side note, shall the pickem not close BEFORE the shakedown? My memory tells me it was like that last year and i think thats the way it should be. (ie big crash during shakedown -> not possible to start rally -> opportunity for last minute change of pickem which is not favorable for people outside rally time zone like me :)).

Kradovech
14th February 2019, 20:21
Well I believe it should definitely close before first stage, this time it was closed 21:00 UTC, right after SS1 had finished. :) I believe Per probably made a small miscalculation there.

I think the rules should probably be what people are used to from previous year. If it was indeed closed before shakedown, lets go with that.

Rallyper
14th February 2019, 21:35
I think closing time used to be after first MM stage back in time. But could easily be changed from now on to next round. Closing time after SD then. No problem.

I am finished with the results from Sweden. Credit goes also to Rallyper for posting and closing the thread on time and to spiderem for providing me with the raw data.

Since 2 players used one driver twice in their predictions there is a need to once more clarify the rules. If a player uses the same driver in their predictions more than once, (For example 1 Ogier 2 Ogier 3 Ogier 4 Lappi 5 Lappi 6 Tanak 7 Lappi 8 Tanak) score is awarded only for the least accurate prediction. Go ahead and discuss or overrule this rule. I don't like adding rules in the middle of the competition but I think we can all agree these type of predictions are not in the spirit of the game. To be clear, I do believe in this instance it was a simple mistake in both cases.

As before, please check your scores and PM me within a week if you find mistakes.

Rally Sweden
It is a lower scoring round compared to MC, Ogier is to be blamed for that. Dupanton has emerged victorious with 65 points.

I have updated the results. Nothin major:

Fixed: missing score for vvvvv in Sweden in overall standings
Fixed: Micke_VOC position was incorrect under Sweden results
Added Score for Spyros for Sweden.

Please keep in mind the proper format for posting results in Mexico and also the spelling. Right now I have corrected misspellings I have found because I am still developing the spreadsheet and I am looking through it looking for mistakes anyway. In the future misspellt names are more likely to give you no points.

About WRC2 - I will put together the results if spiderem sends me the data, however I cannot promise I will do it soon.

Corrected one error in the overall results after Mexico:
Sidrun was inserted into the tables under a wrong name for MC and Sweden, "Sidrum". Due to this "Sidrum" lacked points for Mexico. Name was corrected and Sidrun moved to 3rd place. Guys in top ten drop one position due to this.

Here comes Germany. Thanks to Spiderem and Rallyper for help, as usual. If you find errors in your score, let me know within a week.

Rally Germany
Win goes to T16, only one to predict podium correctly! Lankey555 and Ucci follow in 2nd ad 3rd.

Overall
Rew slipt a little bit and gave up some of the lead. Still 26 points remain between him and, once again, me. Estwrc drops behind me by one point

I'm last of the people who made predictions at every round :) At least you can be sure that I am not manipulating the results in my favour!!!

Hopefully more luck next year.

Here is Turkey, credit to Rallyper and spiderem. If you find errors, please let me know within a week.

Rally Turkey
Only 60 participants this time, it seems many people failed to post their predictions in time, including our long time leader, rew!
Co-driven takes the win with a significant lead over able1 and arko5, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Overall
Well, it seems I am in lead once again... You guys really need to step it up, I really should not be leading here :), My results (Unlike Spiderem's :) ) are really starting to look suspicious for the guy responsible for the pickems...
And it really is a bit of a shame rew lost his lead this way.

GB, Thanks to Rallyper and Spiderem. Let me know of any mistakes you find within a week.

Rew is back in full swing after his break in Turkey, completely dominating everyone else with the highest score this season. Perfect prediction of top 5! Ucci and Jewy46 follow in 2nd and 3rd at a respectable distance

Here is Spain, credit to Spiderem and Rallyper

Rally Catalunya
Quite low scores for our overall top 3 - we wanted to give others a chance as well...
Victory goes to Tobbe3 - only one to predict podium correctly. Ucci 2nd, with this he has secured the "most podiums" awards for this year. And Arko5 is 3rd

Overall it seems like it will be a fight between me and rew - still have mixed feelings about that :) But not to forget, there are still up to 98 points to give out in Australia so we cannot rule out much

First of all, I'm gutted for what happened in Australia.

So, after more than 25 years, a Wrc title comes back to Italy... hmmm, I know it's not the same thing but at least I can say that in my life I won something related to Wrc! :D

Thanks to all of you and see you next year with a new Pickem challenge!

P. S. At the moment I don't know if I'll be in Sardegna next year, but if you allow me, I'll print a t-shirt "Pickem Champ 2019", so if I'll be there and some of you will be on stages or at the service park, we can meet easily!

I hope next years pickems use same system than ERC pickems, no spelling mistakes and way easier to make entry.

With current system I´m still not playing.

That was an undramatic end to the season, although perfectly understandable considering the situation in Australia.

Anyway, well deserved victory to rew! It may have only been one point between us in the end but that is only because you skipped one event.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the co-contributers to this years pickems.
Rallyper was responsible for posting the individual pickems rounds and closing them in time, so he was the only one of us who had to work to a schedule.
Spiderem worked behind the scenes. He may have been the least visible but probably had the most time consuming and tedious task of copying the entries to excel.
And thanks to everyone for playing! Cheers!
