FIA should move this rally to northern Sweden to reach a guaranteed winter conditions. This SSS is always close to melting point

did you look at weather forecast? All Sweden (nearly all Scandinavia) have temperature -1..+3. Changing location isn't a solution, they should run rally 2-3 weeks earlier. Several years now weather before Rally Sweden more acceptable for winter rallying than at rally days.

Plus it's not FIA who decides the location of the event within the country.

Ready for Sweden. Mild weather but still nice roads here!

Not necessarly, and the roadbase needs to have snowshowers, melting, cold etc. That takes time.

What's the excuse for Pietarinen then?

No excuse, like I wrote above/earlier, other than talent/a good run! One hell of a run.

Nope, that's no good, Värmland is rally-Mecca in Sweden, and it has the organization to pull it off. Besides, when are we going to move rally wales to get rid of the disturbing fog? Or move rally Mexico to get rid of altitude-issues that make engines less effective? Or move Monte to get rid of extreme snowshowers now and then? Or move...etc etc etc. Enough with the whining now, tomorrow will be better.

Tarmop
14th February 2019, 21:37
You also have to remember that they use those tires on other stages. Studs and gravel/asphalt don't go together and seconds won could be lost in multiples.

Both yes and no. However ice and snow in Värmland is no problem. It´s all about timing...

Oohhh. And good morning my friends. An exciting day ahead. Today I´m home some 300K from the rally but early tomorrow morning we leave for Rämmen stage. Now, let´s take on this Friday of stunning Rally Sweden!!

Ice looking a bit soft. Haven´t checked, was it minus degrees in the area during night?

AnttiL
15th February 2019, 06:31
At least looks like no fresh snow on the road. Maybe it will be good for the first runners? Will we see a new average speed record? Previous is 126 km/h from 2017 by Neuville

EstWRC
15th February 2019, 06:32
looooking so slippery from Otts onboard

Rallyper
15th February 2019, 06:37
Ok. Ogier says it´s slushy. So big advantage then. Times will be slower and slower until gravel comes through.

stefanvv
15th February 2019, 06:37
Slush is more slippery than fresh snow, but better for front runners.

Loeb uncomfortable in Neuville's i20 maybe?

AnttiL

In 2017 the stage win average speeds were 125.4 and 126.2 km/h.

Lappi and Suninen were near the pace at least in their first WRC outings. Poor Pontus isn't doing his WRC hopes any favors lurking at the bottom of the pack.

It´s also about how many rallies you drive. If you haven´t driven in similar conditions or at least several rallies you don´t have the speed. That´s just a fact and plays a role.

The number of rallies driven past months, and in WRC17 car, the number of km tests. The pressure you have to perform. Etz. etz. Much more. But as said disappointment but there are explanations.

Extremely impressed by Kristensson, he is from southern Sweden and has hardly any experience from snow/ice-rally. Sesks brilliant, real talent! Fun fight in JWRC!

Going back to my theories. Kristensson driven a lot of rallies. Did swedish first round of 130K stages. FWD car. Easy to adapt.

Only thing that doesn´t fit 100% to theory is Bergkvist. He´s doing fine, though to my knowledge he hasn´t competed for long. And not 100% adapted to these WRC2 cars for a long time, that is.

MORNINGLOOP POSITIVE SURPRISES:

- Sunninen!!! What a start!
- Veiby leading R5-class-cars, great drive, new he was fast but that fast..?)

"I'm satisfied with the morning, it went well for us," the leader of the Hyundai team told Olivier Gaspard, RTBF's special correspondent in Sweden, "We're still fighting for the victory, it could have been much worse being in second position on the road, but we drove well, we did not let go, the Toyota are going very fast again, but we're not far away. afternoon, the conditions may be a little worse for us, but we hope to stay in the fight for the victory. When the second passage in these special, we may end up on the ground often The first cars on the road will have to make the tracks, especially after the passing of the cars of the historic rally which will be passed between our two loops, that complicates the things, but it is the case each year, we know it, we have to do with it! "

Already the fastest on the stages of the Monte Carlo (only one puncture deprived him of the victory), Ott Tanak seems to be again the man to beat in Sweden ... as very often in the second half of the last season. And the many test sessions organized by his team, Toyota, are probably for something.

Each team is entitled to 42 test days during the season as well as "unlimited" testing on a test basis near their factory. The "Finnish-Japanese" team of Tommi Makinen being installed in Puuppola, about ten kilometers from Jyväskylä, high place of the Rally of Finland, it can carry out tests whenever it seems to him on ideal routes for the practice of the rally. , especially to prepare the Swedish and Finnish events. This is not the case for Hyundai Motorsport, whose factory is in Alzenau, Germany, or Citroën Racing, a team based in Satory (Versailles).

"We have already talked enough about it, the regulations allow it, but some teams do not have the possibility to choose their annual base," said Vice World Champion Hyundai Motorsport is based in Germany, and we have many opportunities It takes a small change in the rules to make it a bit more fair, and I think that Toyota has, in all, done fifteen days of testing before that event, and we, three, and their quota of 42 days of annual testing has hardly moved! hm, maybe (a guess), the massive amount of ice and slushy snow is dispatched by the first 3 cars and cleans for Meeke and those behind, for more gravelly roads? Less studs on the tires after these stages i presume..
