The lines of this Williams is awesome. It seem to have a long wheelbase like the Mercedes, but the profile is really aggressive. I hope it goes as well as it looks.

I suspected most teams would have some version of a mini fin as there was some noises for retaining the fin last year. I think this is going to be a discussion point at Melbourne Australia.

I really don’t mind the halo. I think peope are making way too big a deal over it. We have known a canopy or halo has been coming for years. Now that it is here, it is here to stay until something better comes along, so there is zero point complaining about it. I watch F1 primarily for the racing not the aesthetics. If we see a tire fly at a drivers head get deflected and save their life then we’ll be quickly praising the FIA for the great initiative they took against strong opposition.

RBR’s livery looks amazing. I wish this was their permanent livery. Kind of like the camouflage livery they launched with a couple of years ago. That was awesome. I have never found their regular livery very interesting.

The car's special edition livery is not expected to last long, with Red Bull saying their 'race-ready' livery will be unveiled in Barcelona next week.

t's not the first time the team have launched with a distinctively different look - back in 2015 the RB11 was launched with the black and white 'camobull' paint job.

That would be a shame, as the normal Redbull livery of yellow and red has become too familiar and boring. Which was why the blue and silver livery of the Torro Rosso was exiting and was one of the best livery on the grid last year. I have found the livery of the Redbulll of the last few years very boring, only saved by the intricate beauty if the shape of the chassis. I can almost guess what the Redbull livery of 2019 would look like.

Out of the cars we've seen so far, the Sauber is the one I like the least. The livery itself is nice, but the car is shaped like a brick with sidepods.

A
Maserati-Haas union does make sense. Haas would be able to continue using Ferrari powertrains, since Maserati would likely turn to its corporate cousin the same way Alfa did in its deal with Sauber. Haas cars are already mostly Italian, so the deal would seem like more than mere marketing. Haas would get its first-ever big sponsor, and Maserati would have an easy way back into F1.

So far, I love the Renault livery.
I like the Alfa Romeo from the back only (lol sounds dirty)
RBR i suspect is a temp livery and williams looks the same to me. (and yes that's williams in small caps because that is all they deserve)

The Mercedes looks awesome as usual. I was relieved to see that they have not adopted the raked setup of Ferrari and Redbull. Which means that this W09 is going to be mighty this season. Of course we have to see what the Scuderia Ferrari has up its sleeves at Barcelona. Redbull are quietly confident, more like hopeful, l would say. But it would be great to have a real mixup at the front among Mercedes, Ferrari, Redbull and Mclaren.
But seeing that Mercedes has gone with evolution rather than revolution, l think they would be hard to beat this year. Unless Ferrari has found something in the winter months.

what i like so far are the very different approaches each team has taken this year, making each car rather unique.
The mercedes does look super tight and well designed. I can't wait for testing to begin.
2018 hype is now finally getting to me.

The Mercedes looks absolutely beautiful. I’m a bit torn about the Ferrari. It’s not the thing of beauty I thought it might be. Can’t wait for the season to start now.

It turns out that Ferrari has gone the Mercedes way with the SF71H. It has a longer wheelbase compared to the SF70 and the rake has gone it seems. Besides those obvious things, it is the most elegant shape than anything else released so far. Obviously very closely matched by the Mercedes.

I think there is something very serious, even sombre about this Ferrari. I get a distinct feeling that this car is in the mood to race hard.

I think we are set for a cracking season. Every car launched so far, seem to have made noticeable steps forward. The Williams was very striking and eagerly awaited to see what that car can do. But the potential new sharp end of the grid is shaping to include a closer Redbull and an emancipated Mclaren.

I agree, the red supersoft would have complimented the design perfectly. But l have to say, this is a truly beautiful Sauber. I think the best Sauber design ever actually. I am sure someone would prove me wrong shortly. l love it. It certainly is one of the top three livery on the grid. And that is not an easy statement to make with the total make over of all the cars we have seen so far.

I was quite hyped about this season's McLaren, but I'm disappointed. I guess the black had to go after Honda left, but this season's livery is a bit of a disappointment to me. Last year's was striking, but this year's is rather lame.

I'm loving this year's Merc, BTW.

well the papaya orange looks great in natural light.
Very barren in terms of sponsorship and they have already announced a raft of changes on the car by the time they get to Australia.
So i am a bit mixed about the car so far.

The McLaren looks ok-ish in Orange, I'm sure it will look at lot better by OZ. The lack of sponsors isn't a nice thing to see though.

OT- Without the Honda money, I wonder if Alonso agreed on a pay cut as part of the deal to go with Renault... or is money really not an issue for Mac?

I am not so sure that the McLaren is lacking sponsors. The livery is completely plain in most places and the sponsors' logos are rather small, so the car looks rather barren. However, when you count how many different logos there are in the car and compare it to Renault, you'll find Macca wins.

I've counted 15 different sponsors on McLaren, whereas in Renault I've only identified 11. So don't be deceived about the apparent emptiness of the McLaren, because it's only that - apparent.

And how many logos are there on the Mercedes? Take away the Mercedes/AMG logos and Petronas' and I'm not sure there's any. (Yeah, they're a manufacturer with very deep pockets, but still.)

My God, they have got it very wrong at Mclaren. All the lighting in the world is not going to help. This is the worst Mclaren livery ever from a team that had a special place of being the style guru for livery. I hope the blue makes the car go faster, but l struggle to warm up to this livery. I like the shade of orange of the main parts of the car. That said the packaging looks very cool and aggressive. The lines of the chassis is one of the best out there. I can see that it may go very well if the Renault engine delivers on it promise to improve this year.

It is interesting to see that they have turned up with a raked chassis this year like the 2017 Redbull and Ferrari. But it seems to have a longer wheelbase which may be taking cues from the Mercedes. It also seems to wrap round the engine tightly, one of the striking aspects of the Mercedes W09 as well. Livery aside, l would be anxious to see this car go in anger at Barcelona.

Actually, l asked my self after l wrote my last post, what did not like about the Mclaren livery? Why did l not like it?

The answer that came to mind was Orange and deep Blue do not seem a harmonious combination. The Orange Mclaren liveries of past years worked well because they were either only orange or a combination or Orange and black which complimented each other very well. The deep blue contrasts the orange like a compromise of two tangential philosophies. The blue just do not have the depth of black . Maybe a lighter metallic blue would have had a better impact. But to be honest, l don't care much about the livery, what l care about is whether this car is fast enough to get Mclaren back into the sharp end of the grid.

If it is doing duel with Redbull, Ferrari and occsionally Mercedes, they can paint the car mauve or purple whatever, l would be happy. I also have a feeling that l might come to like it after a few races into the season. But my first impression was one of pure horror.

Agree with you mate, total disparity of these two colors. It actually looks like they found that deep blue left behind in grandma's closet and got it for free.

About the other guy - smaller text size sponsors pay much less money you know.

Torro Rosso has always managed to turn up with a better livery than the sister team. Very clever use of red.

It is interesting how the blue on the Mclaren looks lighter from different angle. I am beginning to think this is a car to be best appreciated from close quarters. Hamilton likes it, so l am thinking the pics do not do justice to true quality of the livery.

The orange is just simply beautiful.
