As I have left this rather late I will accept predictions up to the end of January but only those made before next Thursday regarding RMC will be considered valid (20-20 retro vision not counting).
Award for most of 5 predictions correct (please exercise some self-discipline in sticking to just 5 - no multiples in one sentence danke!)
Honour for the most extreme prediction that turns out to be correct (My decision is final)
Dig out the runes, the I-ching and the Tarot and let's go for it!

So I'll kick off

Ogier to take his 6th Championship
The Loeb return turns out not to be what Citroen want from it
Hyundai replace a driver in the second half of the season
7 different winners this season
The title only decided in Australia

1) In order to keep things simple for Jon Desborough, before the season begins Kris Meeke will change his name to “The man from Dungannon”

2) As he is not competing on Monte Carlo, Mads Ostberg joins the WRC all-live commentary team. However he arrives late to the studio citing ‘problems with the hire car’

3) Skoda confirm at some point this year that they will return to top-flight WRC competition from 2020. As part of this process this will be their last season in WRC2 and their chosen WRC drivers will be placed in Polo R5s in 2019.

4) Latvala will struggle with increased internal competition from Tanak and Lappi and the greater mental strength he showed in 2017 will begin to suffer.

5) Forum member NOT will win the Euromillions Lottery and set up ‘Potato Dogs World Rally Team’ so that he can finally put his forthright opinions to the test on the stages.

So far at least three of my predictions have come true! Championship decider is the final round, Mikkelsen will finish behind Neuville in the standings, and while he hasn't quite regained his form Paddon did score a podium in Turkey! I missed the mark quite a lot with Latvala being champion though.

My final prediction to be confirmed is whether Tanak has as many victories as retirements. Is it correct so far?

Edit: not quite, but if I count Rally 2 as retiring and he retires/restarts in Australia that'll be correct too!

I like this thread.
- Tanak to regret his move to Toyota as the car shows speed but very poor reliability in his hands, he publicly explode after Germany
- Ford to struggle first half of the season but massive areo development in the second half make them unbeatable
- Wilson to apply team orders in favor of Ogier
- Ogier takes his 6th driver champ
- Hyundai to miss out by 1 point the manu champ on the last round, Nandan still has a smile on his face and says that it is the sport (gets fired the day after and cook by the Koreans on a barbecue)

1) partly correct
2) partly correct
3) correct big time
4) correct
5) partly correct, more than 1 point but he was smiling at the end, and i am curious to see if he will be there next year...

Where's the proof that the updated aero has helped Ogier in any way? Also they didn't implement it on other cars...

1.Tänak is leading championship after Sweden

2.Tänak is going to win a rally this year

3.Latvala is not 2nd in overall points.

4.Suninen will take podium place 2018

5.Ogier is 2018 Champion

1.no
2.yes, multiple times
3.yes, too easy
4.yes
5.yes, why did I choose him?

It didn't, perhaps 50/50. In Finland it was disaster, but they used it in Germany probably due to more downforce and seemed to work better there.

1 Monte Carlo winner will not be WDC
2 the Fighting Viking will get a podium
3 part time drivers will win 4 or more events
4 People will be saying wish we had RallySafe sooner
5 Hyundai will achieve a podium 1-2-3

1 Wrong
2 Correct
3 Wrong
4 Wrong - I don't recall any comments positive or negative
5 Wrong

I have a slightly used and generally unreliable crystal ball to give away - free to a good home

Pff ridiculous.
Tänak was 2nd and fastest Toyota in first rally. First Toyota to win, etc etc.

But Ott says it here https://www.autosport.com/wrc/news/138406/tanak-still-not-comfortable-with-yaris-after-wins

"Normally the car is good when the conditions are consistent, but if they are constantly changing then we struggle a little bit."

Like Gary Boyd said, that makes my prediction a little bit correct :D

1) Tanak takes the title
2) Hyundai takes the title
3) Loeb wins 2 rallies
4) Citroën will not have enough cars because Meeke crashed another one
5) NOT will say something positive about Neuville

1) Wrong, but he could have taken it
2) Wrong, but they would have taken it with a decent Mikkelsen
3) 50% correct
4) 50% correct? They still had cars but fired him...
5) I think somewhere during the season he did say something positive about the potato dog

I'm not good at this...

Apparently I made no predictions, which means none of my predictions were wrong!

1 - Ogier will win more rallies thanin 2017 but wont win the title

2 - Loeb wont win a rally but will be on the podium in at least 1 event

3 - Breen will (hopefully) win a rally

4 - The Toyota turns into the quickest car ahead of the Hyundai but it's drivers inconsistencies mean they win neither title

5 - Ogier will be the only M-Sport driver to win an event

1 - Partly correct, he won more events but he won the title also

2 - Wrong! (Glad to say it, his win was epic!)

3 - Wrong, a close second in Sweden but season went downwards from there unfortunately

4 - Partly correct. Toyota is now the quickest car but they won the Manufacturers

5 - Correct!

rp

- All the Manufacturer teams will win during the WRC 2018 season
- Sébastien Loeb will win at least 1 event
- Mads Østberg will drive more than 1 WRC event with the Citroën C3 WRC
- Teemu Suninen will take his 1st ever Podium place
- Juho Hänninen will drive 4th Toyota in Rally Finland

A bad mistake to predict Juho´s drive, but otherwise it went well! :)

N.O.T

1. Ogier to win the title on the last event after both neuville and Tanak crash. Neuville to blow a 20+ points lead to Ogier.

2.Toyota to win the manufacturers title after being carried by Tanak

3.Ogier to sign with citroen for 2019

4.Loeb to win in spain, will lose the lead in mexico after puncture and crash in Corsica

5. all of the above predictions will be correct

get on my level dogs !!!!!!

3) Fill this is after final round

5) Don't tell anyone but N.O.T. is an abbreviation of Naughtly Old Troll

N.O.T. your predictions are so amazingly accurate.
Hard to believe you got 5 out of 5 is amazing.
I have absolutely no idea how you do it.

1 Ogier wins WDC on 219 points
2 Loeb will win Catalunia by smaller margin than 5 secs
3 Toyota wins Manu title in an decider in last round
4 Latvala wins last round with a margin over 30 secs
5 Meeke signing for Toyota for 2019

Yep, it’s quite amazing! NOT even got a 6th prediction right:

6. Sick dog Mikkelesen will crash in Australia after avoiding hitting a tractor

Good joke mate, for a change; you really could use your mind in funny ways often, instead of insulting everyone on a daily basis.

1) Ogier will win this title too
2) My 4th prediction won't be correct
3) My 5nd prediction won't be incorrect

5) My 2nd prediction is not correct

Ostberg retires in Sweden, but wins Colin Crest
Loeb will lead a rally, but won't win it
Toyota 1-2-3 in Finland
No podium for Evans in GB
Season ends with Ogier, Neuville, Tanak, Mikkelsen, Latvala, Meeke in 1-6
1. second part is correct
2. correct in Mexico
3. wrong
4. correct
5. went to greedy, but correct top3 is pretty decent betting-wise

Even with 8, I dont think I have one correct prediction.

:bigcry::beer:
:grenade:

- Hyundai will win Manu Title
- Østberg will get more rallies both in WRC and WRC2 in Citroen
- Toyota will not have a better season than in 17, but will fight for manu title in 19.
- Mikkelsen will be 3rd in driver champ.
- Ogier will loose his motivation, and 18 will be his last season.
- FIA will continue to destroy the sport, and plans for El-car and micky mouse format are developed.
- Supericence will be introduced in WRC. Numbers of drivers in rallies will drop.
- ERC will continue to grow, and get a better R5 field than WRC2.

FIVE PREDICTIONS ONLY!!! _MM

Well curtain down on this thread - 2019 looking like just as much fun. As independent judge (and only scoring 2 correct) no one scored more than 4 correct (You know who you are).
'Almost correct' is just as wrong as totally wide of the mark.
Anything a driver says in an interview is not allowable as evidence when the position in the championship points to the contrary.
Retirement means 'does not finish the rally'
Many predictions failed because of multiple conditions in one sentence - Keep it simple with no ifs and buts.
Thanks to KiwiWRCfan for kicking us off this year.
