I think that Bouffier will not be in Gran Canaria.

The ERC will be in Gran Canaria at least to 2019. Good news!!!

I am quite surprised. Spectator´s safety is really bad. How can it be in same championship with Barum Czech rally Zlin where spectators needs telescope because they are standing hundreds of meters far from the road?

Canarias is not so bad like in spanish mainland, if I remember well. But when we can see Rally Poland in WRC, everything is possible ;)

The organizers talk about 27 R5 and 24 R2 cars in the article on the official website. They are mentioning Alexey Lukyanuk, Kajetan Kajetanowicz, Bruno Magalhaes, Bryan Bouffier, Marijan Griebel, Max Rendina, Sylvain Michel, Pedro Burgo, Yeray Lemes, Antonin Tlustak, Murat Bustanci, Cristian García, Luis Monzón, José Antonio Suárez, Pepe López, Surhayén Pernía, Iván Ares, Sergio Vallejo, David Bótka... It is going to be a very good entry list.

What car local fans mostly want to see on this year Canarias Rally? If you’re thinking at any of the top R5’s used by ERC aces you’re wrong; all eyes will be on local champ JM Ponce and his new rally beast…the Seat JTR S600!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyxqG8zNPz0

Tubular proto built in Almeria (spain) by JTR Racing, using the iconic Seat 600 body and a Suzuki Hayabusa bike engine (205hp for 615kg). It’s been used in hill climbing races and Ponce (a celebrated M3 driver) is apparently making its debut on a rally. Best luck for him. Can’t wait for the videos!

It is sometimes funny how two drivers see the same stage in a completely different way. Just look at Magalhaes and Kajetanowicz after SS2:

Kajetanowicz: It was a very exciting stage. Tarmac is so adhesive, tyres are amazing, it is unbelievable.
Magalhăes: It was very slippery, I did not expect it. I tried to do it good but it was very difficult for me.

What to say more about Lukyanuk supreme speed? Only that it’ll be totally unfair if he eventually doesn’t become ERC champ (well, maybe he could wait another year in case Magalhăes runs the champ‘ship…) as he’s the bravest and most talented driver in the series. Hats off also to Arnautov’s, for his courage and competence.

Huge congrats to Bruno and Hugo Magalhăes!!! They prove they can be top ERC contenders and they’re still leading the series…let’s hope their sponsors (and some new ones) can give them the chance to run more events this year. Congrats also to ARC Sport, the Portuguese team that owns and runs Bruno’s Fabia; they can be a small team from a countryside town, but they’re hugely competent and passionate.

Nice job from Ivan Ares (a former 911 driver), clearly the fastest among Spanish drivers, and a big applause for the brave JM Ponce and his co driver, Carlos Larrode. Certainly it wasn’t easy to drive (and codrive) the tiny Seat JTR Proto on Canarias stages, but their effort was far from being ridiculous; without the 4m they lost at yesterday SSS and today penalty they’d certainly get to the top 5 in local champ’ship, only behind R5’s and 911’s.

Overall, another great (island) rally to follow on a very promising ’17 ERC season!

Grzegorz Grzyb is 40 years old, he is current Polish rally champion, 4-times Slovakian rally champion, Polish Super 1600 winner in 2007 and has many other class titles on his account. He was also an official driver for Peugeot Polska team. He will never be European champion, but comparing him to gentleman drivers is an insult.

I liked too and I’m quite optimistic about ’17 ERC, but Wuff remark is understandable. Having just 3 or 4 favourite drivers in the series is a bit short, but as long each event provides strong local drivers fields we shouldn’t be unhappy. Actually, local drivers ability to fight with ERC regulars has been one of the series upsides and distinctive signs. I also believe that some of the U28’s drivers will be able to progress and discuss first places in a short time.

Interesting. I don’t know the details of the deal between Monteiro and ARC, but what matters to underline is that ARC Sport has one (now two, apparently) brand new Fabia R5 available for Magalhăes (and other drivers) and they’re a hugely reliable team.

It's kind of difficult to speak about 3-4 drivers. The thing is that unlike in WRC the ERC drivers aren't totally dominant everywhere they go (at least not that much since Škoda works team left the competition). In other words the same drivers who could have been rather slow in Canarias may and possibly will shine elsewhere. Yesterday during Rally Vyškov Zdeněk Pokorný (owner of Černý's car and an active rally driver himself) said that the team actually wanted to restart under superally but it was not possible due to lack of some spares available for reasonable price. He said the damage to the car isn't that bad as it looks on the photos.

Jarek, this particular rails were possibly already damaged from Robert Kubica. Maybe without his crash the concrete fundaments would resit.

What I like about the ERC is that the local drivers can compete on a semi-even playing field with the ERC series regulars (of course their equipment may not be quite as good). Whereas in WRC/WRC2 you have no chance being against the factory teams. So this does give more variety and the potential for an upset. But I do agree that this round was a little bit of a disappointment in the lack of the other ERC regulars being able to keep up with the clearly best driver. However I am big Alexey fan, so I am glad to see him get a car to a finish line and the perfect result.

Ingram answered my question, stating at the end that he won the rally on the 1st stage and then just controlled his pace thereafter taking no risks.

Huttunen's press release said he had set up issues on SS1 which made the car understeer a lot and in order to preserve tyres he lost a lot of time. They did set up work throughout the event.

Ingram could say he just controlled his pace, but a lead that was never over a half a minute is hardly a safe lead. A slow puncture or spins could've changed it all. Also, Ingram started ahead of Huttunen. Still, Ingram hasn't put a foot wrong on these first two events, it must be said. I am very entertained by this duel and of course hoping that Huttunen could take the next round
