Fantastic video, but it’s strange not to see any Portuguese flag on it. I haven’t heard any news about Açores becoming independent and an EU member…

Honesty, I love Açores and their rally (been there twice) and have some good Açorean friends, both on the islands and here in mainland. I know they also feel that Açores Rally organizers are getting a bit too cocky, showing a needless disrespect towards the Continent. Hope those realize that by doing so they’re also disrespecting mainland crews that enter the rally and all Portuguese fans that support their rally around the world. After all, we’re all Portugal!

This is not the place to discuss this kind of issues, Rally Power.

Once the official teaser was posted here and it doesn’t make any indication that Azores Airlines Rally is the Portuguese ERC event, this is the right place to mention it.

Besides, “quem não sente não é filho de boa gente”.

Portuguese press talks about the possibility to have Kalle Rovanpera. First it was a local newspaper, then yesterday autosport.pt also published an article with that possibility and also added Andreas Mikkelsen, who, they say, is on "advanced contacts"...

Kalle is ready to drive everywhere if allowed.

For WRC events FIA decides who can start, I believe it´s same in ERC, so no national club can decide that.

This has nothing to do with FIA. It is about national ASN and national rules in each country.

In all the Portuguese territory only at the age of 18 it is possible to drive on public roads.

Mirek

That doesn't need to be a problem. It's same here in CZ but Kruuda or Novikov both drove our events before they were 18 under some sort of exception.

Not in WRC events. It was already discussed here in Finland that local ASN can´t give permission to WRC NesteRallyFinland. They need FIA permission. For ERC I don´t know.

According to the documents from FIA Evo IX is no more elligible: http://www.fia.com/2017-list-homologated-vehicles-classified-number

They can run the national event though.

Mirek
16th March 2017, 11:47
A friend corrected my information. Based on the following document it is possible to use some selected cars up to 4 years after the end of homologation in FIA events except WRC ones but only when they have new safety fuel tank (Evo IX, N12 among them). I was told that it's very expensive and therefore most of the cars won't appear in FIA events regardless.

http://www.fia.com/file/54259/download/9217?token=fLc32BB6

EDIT: According to latest unconfirmed info the fuel tanks are mandatory starting from 2018 and therefore the Evo IXs shall be eligible this year.

I also have a document on this subject, but does not speak specifically to the fuel tank. Do you know more details about it?

"2.7.1.c.ii The cars are in conformity with the technical regulations (Appendix J) in effect on the date of the homologation and must be in good condition of participation, subject to the discretion of the technical Commissioners."

Mirek
17th March 2017, 11:34
How is that related to ERC?

liposh
17th March 2017, 12:16
Simply...They can manage cooperation with some young (probably baltic) driver who will attend ERC U27 (and maybe it is their plan) or somebody in ERC3 under SRT. Moreover they don´t need to own the R2 car necessarily. They need only somebody who will be written on paper as part of SRT team. Like the team Botka-Tlustak-Kupec. Skipping first round of the year doesn´t mean anything.

Citizenship has nothing to do with what country they use on entry lists aswell as the flag on the car. It's the license of the country that have to be used. That's why Claudie Tanghe is driving with a french flag on his car, the last years. He's Belgian but driving with a french license.

It is exception for all world championships. I don't think that exception was made by FIA because they had a situation in the WRC. Most F1 drivers live in Monaco and therefore have a Monaco license, that is why this exception exists I think.

Take my advice after 20years living there. If it's sunny in the morning, take an umbrella and a jacket with you!

From the Atlantic charts it seems that wednesday and thursday can be a bit of a gamble, friday should not rain, saturday should be cloudish as well. But don't be surprised, I've seen Tronqueira start under tremendous fog, rain and wind while, at the same time, completely clear(not a single cloud!) near the the end of the stage.

Just be prepared, enjoy the view and go to the beach or thermal waters after a long day.

I checked out her times from some events and it didn't look good.. but she is very young so hopefully she can get a lot better. Red Bull must have seen something in her beyond being a token lady.

It seems Tamara attacks corners a little harder than Catie :)

Would be good to have some variety at the front of the field car wise.

Surely the best way to follow the rally is keeping an eye on this forum thread, but regional TV (http://www.rtp.pt/acores/) will broadcast street rally show today (20.27h) and SSS’s tomorrow (17.15h) and Saturday (12.30h), plus several rally special emissions (GMT -1h time). Apparently, no live stage on Eurosport.

He was Skoda's official driver on Rally Portugal´91. He won the two-wheel drive, being the third best Portuguese in the overall standings but was not eligible for the trophy because he was registered by the Czech Team.

Castro, the i20 driver, clearly isn’t one of the fastest drivers on Portuguese rally championship (CNR), but probably only Moura and Magalhães will try to challenge ERC top guys, once they’re not fighting for CNR title. The series leader Fontes (DS3) skipped Azores and his main contenders, Barros (Fiesta), Meireles (Fabia) and Vieira (DS3) are on a mission to secure championship points. The same can happen in 2wd national field, but, hopefully, in Gr. N we can expect max attack from Teodósio (EvoX). It’ill also be interesting to follow local R5 guys Rego (Fiesta) and Rodrigues (DS3) evolution and national cup winner Fernandes debut on a S2000 Fabia.

Very wet and windy at the Street-stage tonight ... :(

I think Magalhaes drove some rallies in Portugal last year, but he was very far from his former shape.

One run per crew in each session?

Mirek

Yes but it's not mandatory to do three runs. Also I think that both FP time windows are not strictly separated and You can do two runs shortly following each other. I am not sure though.

SS1: Lagoa Stage will make its debut on the Azores Airlines Rallye this year, after being part of an Azorean Rally Champiosnhip, last summer. On its 2.14 kilometre extension, competitors will be able to experience a new stage on a mix of gravel and tarmac surface roads, kind of an appetizer of what to be found during the three days event.

Iraquiano

Moura wins SS2 and takes the lead, but:

#2flagLukyanuk Alexey - Arnautov Alexey
"Definitely the tyre wear is enormous, now I tried it do it little bit more calm."
#3flagMoura Ricardo - Costa António
"It was OK, but the tyres are too damaged. I don't know how do have it other guys, but we probably pushed too much."

Can Kajto push on the third?

First stage was a mixed surface city stage and SS2 is a very fast one, unlike the rest of the rally, so next stage is the first real one, and should create the first gaps.
