He says he'd love to carry on with Opel, but that's not going to happen unless they manage to homologate the Corsa is it?

No, that's not going to happen. I think he's just saying that as a another 'thank-you' to Opel for backing him the last two years and saying if they had an R5 he'd stay with them.

In terms of his options, I wonder if M-Sport would consider backing him with an R5 ERC entry ? They have won the BRC twice now and dont really have anything to prove there. Perhaps they could step into the ERC in 2018, especially with Ingram having the €100k to bring to them ...

M-Sport has nothing to prove in ERC either. They won the title with Kajetanowicz 3 times in a row.

Do you deserve the title when you crash 4 out of your 6 starts? Nothing against Lukyanuk, he is fast and spectacular for sure. But that alone doesn't mean you deserve the title...

Wasn't talking about any specific season, just saying that Lukyanuk name deserves to be on ERC champs roll; once he wasn’t able to get it on the previous years, I hope he’ll managed to do it in the future.

To finish first, first you have to finish.
-Juan Manuel Fangio

I prefer this one: “Driving fast on the track does not scare me. What scares me is when I drive on the highway and get passed by some idiot who thinks he is Fangio.”

That wasn"t an official M-Sport entry by the British team. Lotos got all the publicity with Kajto's titles.

How much is €100K going to get him? Being a young British driver can't be much fun, as there aren't the big money sponsors/ backers out there. Gotta wish him well though.

It shall be enough for 2 ERC events with a good car and a pre-event test.

As long as one or more Fiesta R5s are fighting for the title, and it doesn't cost M-Sport any money... For M-Sport it's probably better publicity if a privateer with their car can fight for the title, than when it's one of their own "works" cars... It means it is the car you can buy yourself, that's fighting for the win (be it Kajto or Lukyanuk or anyone else). With "works" cars you are never 100% sure (they should be the same but everyone knows they aren't). So I don't see any reason why M-Sport should invest in ERC. Maybe you want it to happen, but it's pointless.

Ingram already last autumn was testing Fiesta and looking for opportunity to drive it in 2017... so maybe now he will come back to this idea.

Ok so why have M-Sport had official entries in the WRC2 and BRC if they dont need to prove anything and could let privateers do the job for them ?

A British driver in their official car would be good for them at European level. Something they've never done as far as I know.

I thought the prize was for two drives in a Motorsport Italia Fabia R5? I suppose these things are open to negotiation..

Maybe Ingram could persuade Skoda UK to come back to rallying and back him?

It's a nice idea - but probably highly unlikely....though I hope I'm wrong.

Ingram was just interviewed on Absolute Rally and stated:

He wants to stay with Opel and hopefully an R5 either next year, or 2019.
Many conversations taken place already - many people keen to support him
The ERC U17 prize use is open... not restricted to any make / team.

Is it still possible for a national importer to homologate an R5 as it was with the S2000?

It’s true that Bruno struggled in Poland, Czech and Latvia, but he wasn’t that slow on the others.

Maybe Magalhaes wasn't slow, but he wasn't fast enough. He did circa 30 rallies in ERC and only won two - both in Portugal. You can't beat Kajto without winning rallies.

In recent years Bruno ERC entries were rare and this year some events were even new to him, while Kajto has been running them for 3 seasons in a row. Despite it, Bruno won the same number of events and kept the fight open till the last round. If he manages to repeat the series next year, he’ll certainly be faster. Fingers crossed for him!

Well I read Sobiesław Zasada's book about driving and also included his memories from various rallies. This should be interesting too, any info about book's translation?

Regarding Zasada's book you probably mean "Szybkość bezpieczna" ("Safe Speed"):

I have it on my bookshelf too :)

Regarding Kajto's book I know nothing about any translations. I don't know if there is any interest in Kajto's career in Lithuania.

Yes that's the one Zasada's book I read.
I'm afraid not many interest about Kajto and stage rallying in general in Lithuania...Dakar rally is in better situation, but still mostly about locals. OK, Vangas/Rozwadowski is international crew; Vanagas not fastest one, but somehow manages to grow his and Dakar fans from public.
I think when this book will be available in English you let people on this forum know ;)

You are right. I normally never watch prize giving ceremonies, but this one looks very cool. Nice appearance of Bruno Magalhaes :)

Radek Kupec (younger brother of Karel who did JERC and 2WD winner of Rally Most 2017) went off on that crest (the stage was held in the opposite direction as a part of Rally Vsetín). Nothing would happen but he went through a wooden fence. One piece of wood penetrated the windshield of the car hitting the driver's head. Radek was airlifted to the hospital in very serious state. Afterwards the only information was that he was kept in artifficial coma. That was already weeks a go. No more information is available.
