It's time to start the topic for the event.

Date: 26-28th August

As a first news we can mention that Opel became a new partner of the rally. Besides providing cars for organization it means that we can expect a lot of Opel crews both with R2 and Cup cars.

Barum Czech or Barum Czechia?

Hehe, interesting that this thing is everywhere in foreign news while nobody really cares here in CZ. Before I read the news I didn't known about this idea of our government at all. Anyway nothing major changes, the only new things is that the short name will be officially allowed to be used along the official name of Czech Republic which stays. Actually I think it's a good idea although the exact name Czechia sounds a bit weird to me.

As for Barum the word Czech is adjective whereas Czechia is noun. To use Czechia in the name You would have to swap the order of words from "Barum Czech Rally" to "Barum Rally Czechia". Anyway it's not going to happen :)

So nobody cares in Czech Republic? That's funny, it was reported here in Polish media quite often, actually it was one of the first things I heard on Polish radio when I woke up on that day :)

Mirek

Czech/Check/Cheque name must stay please, we have had 10 au pairs from your country now, so many people have thought they were the funniest people ever by making bouncing cheque/Czech jokes!

Ps, is there any motorsport you'd recommend on the weekend of 16/17th July? I hope to be in your lovely country on holiday then :-)

Mirek is really right. Nobody cares here in CZ. And yes, the name of our republic is quite silly and long when you say "czech republic " but imho Czechia is some kind of bad joke. So thumbs down from me.

Mirek
17th April 2016, 12:27
I heard a lot of people saying so from all over the world ;)

Anyway we are quite a lot off topic and maybe we shall go back to Barum rally despite there isn't that much to speak about right now. What is sure is that the competitive field will be again split into two - national and international. While I expect most of the top drivers with FIA eligible cars to enter international field I'm quite sure that after last year's bullying of private competitors by FIA stewards (mainly the idiotic story with bar codes on tyres) many of them won't enter international field again.

The question is will Invelt homologate the Porsche of Pech for FIA R-GT to take part in the international field? For sure I hope so.

Jarek Z

The question is will Invelt homologate the Porsche of Pech for FIA R-GT to take part in the international field? For sure I hope so.

Why do they need to homologate Pech's car? Is it some model of Porsche that hasn't been homologated yet?

Mirek
17th April 2016, 12:53
R-GT cars have individual homologations. That's how the rules were created to allow private tuners to make their own cars.

RS
17th April 2016, 18:50
I can't imagine that R-GT cars are going to be good on Czech roads.

Mirek
17th April 2016, 19:24
On some roads and with dry weather yes but overall not, that's for sure. There are some roads which shall be theoretically GT friendly, for example the first circuit stage of Rally Šumava.

Barum tickets are cheap. Last year one stage cost approximately 3 Euro and the rally pass was for 11 Euro. Normally they check the tickets on access roads and in service area.

Anyway if You plan to come, send me a PM let's say a week ahead of the rally and I'll give You some help with stages ;)

Timetable with names of stages released: http://www.autosport.cz/zavody/soubor.php?f=18454

I can say it's going to be tougher than last several years. Quite a lot of changes from which the biggest is including the stage Kopná (from former Rally Kopná) and it's union with part of Troják. Also nice to see a return of the Halenkovice forest (not run since 2012) and the Rajnochovice valley (not run since 2012 as well I think). Even the city stage will be after a long long time changed (the bus station is going to be reversed).

I see the full name of the team is "Gemini Clinic Rally Team", searching on Google I see it's an eye surgery clinic... is it another team with Gemini Clinic sponsor and name (bit like Abu Dhabi Racing/PH-Sport in WRC) or did they form the team from scratch?

Regardless of whether it's ERC or not it's the biggest event in the Czech Rally calendar with the most publicity.

I think he doesn't have any driving license valid in CZ...

His team will run several cars, not only for Jakeš but at least also for Vlček (Fiesta R5). Last year his team run 4 S2000 and no R5 (Wiegand, Vlček, Hudec, Růžička). In my opinion most of those cars weren't owned by Orsák's team, only serviced by him.

Ex-Vlček car is owned by Tomek and that one may be on start. Růžička shall start too. We'll see. For the list of Sete You can add also Jelínek with Fabia S2000.

Also some very fast gr.N drivers still prevail here and shall start - Kopáček, Březík or Ševčík.

Yes, the route is totally same. They just run after a pause (10 minutes I think). Anyway large local part of ERC field scores into Czech championship as well. Only those with car/tyres unfitting ERC regulations or those who specifically entered only MČR field are in the second group.

You are right, Peter. But this is in an R2 in a ERC-rally - it is 'the next level' compared to his earlier outings. Regarding Kenneth, his car is made to national rules which limits his possibilities for international rallies. This is why I am really exited to watch his times compared to the ERC competitors.

Regarding Kenneth, his car is made to national rules which limits his possibilities for international rallies. This is why I am really exited to watch his times compared to the ERC competitors.

I am curious about this car, any specs to share? Is it FWD or 4WD?

Sirmacis with R5? I haven't expected that. Is it confirmed somewhere or is it just Your wish?

Sirmacis didn't manage to gather all the money. In three weeks he collected only 3266.48 € (out of the required 40 000), but he still decided to come to Zlin. Here'smore info about it:

Sirmacis should use a proper crowd funding website. Asking people to wire money into a foreign bank account looks a bit dodgy no matter how much one likes or trusts them, plus using a site where one can pay by credit / debit card is much easier.

The cut for the platform is usually 10% of each pledge. So Sirmacis would need to raise at least 44500. It really pays off if you have a very dedicated and kind fan base.

My impressions from QS/SD...

We chose very nice spot - fast right-hand corner over a crest with following heavy braking into a square junction between houses. It was interesting to see the differences in driving styles and also in particular runs.

Generally Lukyanuk was very brutal in free practice but a lot cleaner in QS. Another very brutal drivers were Kajetanowicz, Habaj, Tarabus or Černý. Kostka was the exact opposite with very clean and smooth style. Kopecký something between.

It was also interesting that in FP nobody touched a bump in the ideal line (from another small road connecting under a big angle to the stage) but in the QS maybe half of the drivers went over and received some nasty kick (mainly Habaj).

There was probably something wrong with Bouffier's car. The sound was unhealthy.

And than the Toyota R3... Rossetti was pushing a lot but You can see the bad time. It didn't look that slow at all but I was in a very fast place where I can't judge for example the acceleration.

The delay of QS was caused by oil from some Russian Clio R3.

Just got a message from a friend that Kopecký had a very scary moment on the oil from the Clio. He was driving just after and went into the ditch in the long right-hand corner at the entrance into Pohořelice. Fortunately he hit nothing despite it was in quite a speed. That was probably the main reason of the following delay.

I have been followed Sirmacis since he started rally and I wouldn't call his style flamboyant at all. Just look at his dossier - http://www.ewrc-results.com/profile.php?p=9403 very few retirements due to accidents or mechanical reasons (except in 2011 when that Clio was technically poor). Such a start/finish ratio couldn't be achieved with flamboyant driving style.

Kajetan Kajetanowicz:

'We have completed the first kilometres of Barum Czech Rally Zlin: free practice and the Qualifying Stage. I am happy with our times, the feeling is OK.

However, I think it should be a bit better if we want to improve or at least to equal our position from last year. On the other hand it is not the most important thing in this rally. We have to think about the championship. We keep it in mind during each rally but now we enter the crucial part of the season. The European Rally Championship title is very important for us, we want to achieve our goal again. It remains to be seen whether we will win it. For now I try to focus on my work and to do my best. I would like to enjoy my driving because these stages enable it.

However, I know that it will not be easy because we fight with very fast drivers on really demanding stages: no less than 40% of the route is completely new to me. I have never raced on those parts and this means an additional challenge. This is why I will try to drive as usual – quickly, efficiently and without mistakes.'

"We are slower now (than Lukyanuk), I think 7 seconds. I think he's taking a huge risk here, looking at his lines through the flat corners. I'm pushing hard, but I'm not taking risks. I don't know if he's crazy, but he's really fast"

"The feeling is quite nice, thanks to the team. It's going very fast and smooth I like it. Awesome tyres... Pure fun! Sometimes I was surprised its dark in there, my co-driver put the lights on in the forest sections"

before Barum i wouldnt bet that Luky can challenge stages from Kopecky with straight fight.
Maybe the most impressive rally so far for Luky.Last year we didnt know what to expect from him at his first asphalt rallies.
Now against Kopecky, against works team,at a special asphalt rally, with minimum budget..i really dont care if he will crash.
its enough for me.

just for reference worth to remember Lukyanuks pace at last year at Barum stage by stage. After 7 stages he was 1min 21 sec behind Kopecky the leader,Pech and Kajto faster too.
http://www.ewrc-results.com/results.php?e=20143&t=Barum-Czech-Rally-Zlin-2015

Just for reference too,at 2015 Barum the fastest time at stage Semetin 1 was 6,48,5 from Breen, and at Semetin 2 winner was Pech with 6,37,6
now 6,24,2 from Luky.Stage was 230 meters longer last year.Lets see at Semetin 2 what Luky can do.

Luky was slower at first lap, something he had commented at stage end.If you watch next laps fabia is topping 128 vs 121km/h at the short straight after the long one.
