I don't like dropped scoring at all, although I understand why they do it.. maybe not necessary in JERC which is only six rounds anyway.

Amazing victory for Sirmacis-definetly surprise No.1 of this season and somebody who will bring even more excitement in the future years.
Luky-calm and smart drive, no exaggeration, gr.N again on the podium...
About gr.N4: I remember the first drive of a Punto Grande S2000 in Italy in March 2006 (Ciocco), I was there; Andreucci destroyed N4 drivers. After the rally there was full of whining (interviews, magazines..) from N4 drivers that S2000 will destroy N4 cars, N4 are written off, blablabla....
After ten years we have successors of S2000 cars-much faster R5 cars, but the N4 are the same as ten years ago....and still capable to clinch podium on ERC level.....funny.

It´s possible on gravel, but not on tarmac. And one shouldn´t forget strong local drivers in Latvia and Estonia, both rallies showed local group N-drivers in strong positions in the last years.

For the PR probably. ERC likely trying to lure him in for the coming years.

Re: the competitivness of N4 cars, they are only really good on very fast gravel rallies such as this, and only then with very good drivers.
Flat out trophy for Rovanpera I won't argue with, although in the end 'old man' Sirmacis did win twice as many stages.

Need to get this guy some competition next season. Not sure what his chances are of moving up to R5?
Chuchala was driving R5 car already in 2014 when he won the Polish championship. He then wanted to step up to the ERC, but couldn't find sponsors for this project. He had a 1-year break and then accepted the offer from Subaru Poland to compete in ERC2. I don't know what's next for him.

You are a good example that people quickly forget. Gr.N rules in 2006 and now are significantly different.
Those days when S2000 came the gr.N had these limitations:
- suspension was mounted in rubber silent blocks
- cars had small brakes
- cars had maximum 17" wheels
- engines had 32 mm restrictor
- the S2000 had 1100 kg
It was actually the faster S2000 which made FIA to try to make gr.N cars somehow competitive. They tried to make gr.N quicker and S2000 slower (by adding 100 kg in 2009). They ended with the unsuccessful R4 attempt after which they finally stopped trying.
I do believe that today with 2006 spec. gr.N car You would be slower than R2 on quite a number of stages.

You are partly right-but the brakes were already bigger-I remember for 110% as I was guest in the Aimont team, who was responsible for Piero Longhi's Impreza. Piero was very happy for the new item, but one day later he (and other N4 drivers) realized, that the S2000 spec car is a different world.
What I want to say (and you are always commenting and finding excuses...), gr.N4 made a very small progress in last ten years (the basic cars are still the same), where as the R5 group is a ''missile technology'' compare to N cars....
And about R2 being faster than N4 : nothing unusual in Slovenia, where Rok Turk with P208 R2 is constantly faster than N4 drivers.....

Also steve røkland is faster than most 4wd's with his 208R2 in Norwegian championship, top3 total in the classification almost every time.
And not just N4's , even R5's and old wrc's is behind him:)
As i have said for a long time, the guy behind the steeringwheel is the most important piece in rally.

That's true but the reason is all in the rules. All classes including S2000, R5 or even WRC are as fast as FIA wants them to be. There is no reason why they could not be faster if they were not restricted by the rules.

Quick impressions from me. About SS9 actions wrote yesterday already, Eurosport gave me 2 seconds of fame by showing from heli how I'm gonna "save the world" alone :D
Apart from this it was let's say - usual, event. Biggest and one and only disappointment was very short entry list. That's a problem which goes to local organizers and ASN. It's affect spectators in two ways - less to see and no fight between drivers which results in easy drive on stages. That's why Juniors on R2 were spectacular till the end - aggressive driving, attacking style. Thumbs up to guys.
Sirmacis did what he had to do - didn't crack under pressure of all these expectations and that's a good sign definitely. Lukyanuk... I know what he is capable for on these roads on Evo X but... I didn't see anything from his flamboyant style, anything! But result is here.
When we walked away from SS5 we saw Jets car. He was retired in a stupid way by cutting corner way to deep - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvMiOjMWTKM That's second time in a row when Skoda has caught by fire after an accident (previous was in Barum when Sirmacis car was seriously damaged by fire after crash) I am asking myself now - coincidence or what?
I start to used to Kalle's Rovannpera driving, so only one new impression. In very high speed and technically place (200m downhill straight - two blind crests - blind long downhill lefthander) way how he downshiffted, layed car before turn and accelerated... First association for me was - wow, loked like a VW WRC :)

Why so late? Why haven't they updated the schedule?
I set only an over hour extra on recorder just in case some snooker is more important than rally...
On their YouTube they post only short videos. Where can I watch/download the whole programme with commentary?
Has anyone recorded it?

After retirements on previous events, he needed to finish the rally. And as he lost on the beginning, it was clear decision not to push over limit.

Do you have some spare Euros to send me? Because I don't.
I already pay high price for sport package with Eurosport. And now I have to pay again because they can't be bothered to keep with their schedule. Or is it on purpose to promote this Eurosport Player? Also they don't have videos from last season there (and current season ones will disappear soon).

Havent you got an EPG on your recorder so you can set the event to record at whatever time it's shown ?
I have a 'series link' set for the ERC so it gets recorded every time its on.

There's no such thing on the recorder I'm forced to rent from my TV provider.
You ment was yesterday... But there was some frames missed in the broadcast :/
I like 'Inside ERC' for nice pictures - but it's a complete mess if you want to know what happened on stages.
Frames lost, pixelization, I have to pay extra for recording and even can't keep recorded program... - digital era was supposed to be a step forward, not backward :/

Raimonds Kisiels, who's going to drive Skoda Fabia R5 in Rally Liepaja, decided to try his new car in Rally Sarma, the first round of Latvian championship. Unfortunaltely Kisiels was humiliated by a 15-year-old kid! The kid is called Kalle Rovanpera, drove Skoda Fabia S2000, won 9 out of 10 stages and the whole rally! Congratulations!
Final results of Rally Sarma:
1. Kalle Rovanperä/Risto Pietiläinen (FIN) Skoda Fabia S2000 1:05.35,36
2. Raimonds Kisiels/Arnis Ronis (LV) Skoda Fabia R5 +20,40
3. Rainer Aus/Simo Koskinen (EE) Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +1.06,23
4. Jānis Vorobjovs/Andris Mālnieks (LV) Mitsubishi Mirage Proto +1.48,17
5. Mārtiņš Svilis/Ivo Pūķis (LV) Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X +2.28,83
6. Egon Kaur/Erik Lepikson (EE) Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +3.13,51
7. Ranno Bundsen/Robert Loštšenikov (EE) Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII +3.20,65
8. Aron Domżała/Szymon Gospodarczyk (PL) Subaru Impreza WRX STI +3.39,39
