Stephane Lefebvre will drive the DS 3 WRC (again). It will be the third start of him on on the Tour of Corsica, the first two were with smaller cars (2wd) so he has some small advantage over many others but in the end I expect similar result(s) like in Germany.

That would be desirable. Stéphane has to build up speed first on WRC-spec car before trying to go beyond his own limits. He just has to follow like this but Corsica is not an easy business!

So he finally found a new regular co-driver it seems.

Hopefully Bouffier will do well, given he has done the rally for the last 4 years in ERC/IRC, I haven't compared routes so I imagine some of it will be quite different, but effectively he has as close to local knowledge as you could hope for?

A little bit of everything in these highlights: dominance of Loeb, Hirvonen struggling on tarmac, Sordo bining the car, Solberg overdriving and in the end Ogier becoming Junior WRC champion. Great to watch after all these years:) Hope this year's event will be at least as much exciting.

I would agree with you that it certainly isn't a likely objective for J-M, but one of the things that he (and others) seem to be focusing on is how Ogier's winning mentality beats Latvala's. At least such a statement by Latvala shows his commitment and improved mentality. Just the fact that he is ready to publicly announce something like this shows that he has come a long way.

He likely won't ever have the same mental strength as Ogier, but hey, it's a step in the right direction.

If bluuford doesn't confirm I don't believe any of those sites. :)

Forecast is so crazy that I am afraid to write it here..
It will be rainy week and there will be sudden cold front on Thursday. So, +9..+10 degrees and rainshowers during shakedown are high possibility.
For Friday, things go even worse, western coast gets some proper rainshowers, lets say, normal rainshowers.. but eastern coast with Ss2, and Ss3 looks so bad that if it becomes true, then we will not see SS2 and Ss3.. for two reasons.. the amount of predicted rain is too much for mountain roads and I do not belive that anyone is allowed to drive in these conditions... if they drive, then I do not belive we can see them through the rain. Unless something drastic happens with forecast, I am not sure that SS3 and Ss2 run. There is slight possibility that rain comes early and its starts to clear up just before the stages.. but maybe it is too late.

Saturday morning Ss4 should see some slight rainshowers and from then, rally should be dry until the end. temperature rises from Friday +15..+17.. to +17..+20 for Saturday and to +19..+23 for Sunday.

So, crazy weekend ahead.

On many forecasts really big big amounts of rain are predicted now for Thursday and especially Friday. Will be a tough event for Drivers and also spectators. Especially as cancellations of Special stages will be critical due to the big loss of stages km with this little number of stages.

Pretty much like every other event in the WRC then. Either we're bored and Ogier wipes the floor with all the others, or Ogier has a problem - someone else picks up the scraps and claims to the media that they can win more often.

So, now the strongest rain has shifted to Thursday, however, Friday morning is still expected to be very, very bad, except Ss1 on the west coast. By the way, Thursday forecast has shifted to even more rain, basically 1/2 Estonian yearly precipitation is expected in 36 hours. Expected amount on the east coast is very similar to the monsoon related precipitation in Japan when 200mm came down in 24 hours, that is 20 cm water cover everywhere, now imagine that this 20 cm is not staying on the mountain sides and its starts to flow downhill, we expect up to 250 mm in some sections in Corsica. I have never seen so much rain forecasted in Europe in such a short period, so, be careful, it is not what you can expect. I Hope the models overestimate a bit.

Looks like very heavy rain but not as bad as expected, might be possible to drive, mostly without boat :-) temperature low, +10..+11

Friday:
SS1, quite heavy rain eases a bit just before the stage and should be driveable, even with car but still very bad conditions.
SS2, SS3, very heavy rain overnight and in the morning. I was expecting the rain to stop before the stage and it looks like it will be the case. Weather should turn nice just before the stages, sun comes out. But are the roads still driveable? That is a big questionmark. I would not be so sure. Model predicts 220 mm of rain from now until the beginning of the stage.. usually models overestimate such things, because they are designed by using real data.. but such weather is so unique that it is most likely that it is overestimating a bit because history is too short.

Rest of the weekend will be most likely nice and dry :) Little risk of rain in some stages.

So, Thursday and Friday morning is critical. When roads and cars survive it, then it is good :-)

Pirelli + Wet + Kubica = Possible win?

After setting fastest time in SD, Kubica admitted his preparations could count for little if the forecast for torrential rain in tomorrow’s opening leg materialises.
“We tested here two weeks ago and did a small test in Italy before coming here, but in completely different conditions. Heavy rain is predicted for tomorrow and it will be a big challenge just to stay on the road. So my confidence isn’t really high, but it’s the same for everyone. It will be a big day if the heavy rain comes,” he said.

From the wrc.com recce notes:

5. Junction hairpin right.
There are hairpins aplenty in Corsica, but the one below in the Francada - Sermano stage (SS3/5) is so incredibly tight that organisers have added an alternative route. Taking the hairpin option, drivers will approach the corner uphill from the road on the right, before turning hard right. If that isn't possible, they can continue 50 metres past our camera position and double-back around a bus stop instead. We expect the World Rally Cars to favour the hairpin option. Less agile cars, the RGT Porsches for instance, will probably take the bus stop.

Mirek
1st October 2015, 15:52
That is quite funny. I don't see a reason why they shall not turn there. There are tighter hairpins around the world, for example one famous from Rally Canarias...

Hey, no excuse not to get some work done I suppose...

silly to go in that bridge that way, though the impact didn't look that hard

Actually this time Lundefaret was even more right than he probably thought he would be...

i know the organizers cant predict the weather and so on, but still, 2 stages per day? Dont like this kind of format of rallying at all.

If SS1 will be also canceled tomorrow then they wont pass 75% rule.

Yes, we had this discussion before the rally. Some were arguing that it's the proper way to have only so long stages some were saying it's a huge risk in case some have to be canceled. This time the organizers were unlucky but they can't say it was impossible to be prepared for such scenario by cutting the route to more shorter stages limiting the impact of cancellation.

That rule was - coincidentally enough - changed to 51% af the World Motor Sport council on Wednesday.

If you don't hit 51%, there's only half points.

But I think this rule will be valid from next year, no?

Yes for 2016, but not for remaining 2015 season.

There is chance that they may run at least part of SS2/4 tomorrow and keep the full points scenario. On the other hand it's also possible that roads from other stages are damaged too.

It was a farce when they decided to run 3 stages per day. Now it's been compounded by the cancellation of one stage. This is a joke. A rethink is needed.

I am quite happy it happened in the beginning of first year, so they will (they should) change it for next year. The idea of 9 loong stages was bad from the very beginning. Without this rain disaster nothing won´t force them to think clever....and someday in future it would be even worse.

More impressive the time by Kubica running low in the road order, considering this said by JML:

No more than 12 for the past 15 years or so. 16 odd stages before that. Need to go back to the 90s when there were 24/25 stages.
I thought it was a good format (the 9 stages), just a pity mother nature thought otherwise. Long stages are always good.

So Robert settled on his set-up after SD and somebody changed it before SS1? Like Henning Solberg a few years ago in Sweden?
Weird, M-Sport think they know better or scared of Robert out performing Evans and Tanak?
Time for another team "re-organisation" from Kubica?

His car is handled by his people and some people from M-Sport, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. I doubt it was intentional.

If there had been more stages, we still might not have got much more stage kilometres as more stages could have been cancelled. If the stages would have been splitted into halves maybe neither half could have been run.

Having 3 stages a day means obviously a bit less to follow, but for tv (if someone outside France bothered to show it) it's better as they don't take quite as much time. Also, variety is nice, so I think it's good to have an event with only long stages.

Definitely some interesting stories with Kubica and a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes we don't know about.

It seemed like he took the decision to move away from M-Sport to his own team. Not sure how much M-Sport support they actually get? But I certainly don't buy that conspiracy theory regarding pace.

His car got sent all the way to Argentina but he didn't start that rally and said he was restructuring his team. Maybe it's a case of you get what you pay for? Not sure - but for sure all this inconsistency really cannot help on top of what is already a steep learning curve.

Doesn't that make it worse? Accidentally/mistakenly changed the set-up? Of course Robert may have asked for certain changes and they were not carried out. Whatever happened, he's in joint P1 so we'll see how he goes on SS3.

Simmi, perhaps I was jumping (or skydiving lol) to conclusions...
