I would not give too much credits to drivers motivations of a slow time at the end of a stage. For sure it is difficult to understand what's wrong with him this year.

Yeah, it is weird season for him, started well in Sweden, then he won some stages in Mexico and then I don't know.

E: Really bad luck for Kubica, day without service and this problem. Is it possible to repair the car by the crew?

Given the design and construction of current WRC cars a service every leg should be available as to do otherwise is short-changing the fans. If the manufacturers are told that midday service won't be available for all rallies they can 'beef up' accordingly for the season.

Current cars are very durable and fully able to do full day without service. It's not like in the past when reliability issues were much bigger problem even with service after every stage. No mid-day service is a problem mainly for those who damage the car by going off etc.

It was a sensor issue for Kubica on SS2 which was rectified. Back to 4WD but a catalogue of other problems. Meeke says the car feels strange but hasn't been able to locate the issue. Hopefully he can get some advice at the tyre change area.

It was a sensor issue for Kubica on SS2 which was rectified. Back to 4WD but a catalogue of other problems. Meeke says the car feels strange but hasn't been able to locate the issue. Hopefully he can get some advice at the tyre change area.

It was a sensor problem for Kubica, they fixed it at the cost of handbrake.

No, in motorsport contracts don't mean anything; more U-turn clausules on it than what the deal actually stands for.

Lappi and Tidemand are very closely followed and analyzed compared to each other, on gravel as well as tarmac because the true champ is an all rounder, if they know which one, JML will be sidelined or "released" to another challenge, seemes to me a plausible procedure. Although I hope he will beat Ogier this weekend.

i've become quite skeptical of these wrc2 drivers and their ability to adapt successfully to WRC....granted they may look spectacular at the wrc2 level, but then there's that transition to the big league that really separates the adults from the children

let's wait and see how he performs if he ever gets the chance in the wrc...and by chance i mean at least a few rallies and not a one off situation

There are huge differences in the lines of the National Rally guys and the WRC guys, and Ogier in particular.
A national level driver will have much earlier turn ins, clinging to the inside corner, and with rear wheel drive, push the gravel out in the wide entry line used by Ogier.
Ogier comes in his wide entry line, and can't go in the lines of the national guys, so will have to live with a looser surface, off course affecting his speed.

But, all tough negative for Ogier, this is great for the rally observer. Because You get a clear picture of two things:
1) The difference in lines between national level rally drivers, and the worlds best rally driver.
2) The "evidence" to prove that Ogier runs his own lines even if the cars in front have done different.

Ogier lines are the correct lines, even with RWD.

I was going to say that I don't understand this idea that there are "different lines" for FWD, RWD and AWD...I've driven roads very much like these and driven them in FWD and RWD and as fun and as rally..

.somehow I come up with the idea that it is the road that determines the line on one hand and the power whatever you drive on the other...
That's after 10s of thousands of km on grave.. and I know that is different from what I call "The Party Line".

Now if those Finns weren't so mean to us speakers of their minority language, I'd love to compare some F-cup times to see where they fit in the scratch (je m' ponce, what you call the overall SS times listing?)

+1. The speed will be higher, especially in the fastest turns, which are the most dangerous. Once things go wrong, I think the consequences could be bigger, not only for the drivers but also for spectators... But another question is, will they use all the possibilities in the regulations? Also the width of the cars can be more from 2017, but I would be surprised if manufacturers would use all of it. At some point it would become so wide that they don't fit into the ruts of "regular" cars anymore, that could be a problem for the 2nd pass. Maybe we can see the comeback of the funny wheels used until mid-2000s in snow rallies like Sweden?

Skodas cruising today, a shame for the fans but sensible for the team.

Still a very impressive 'cruising' speed. No chance for Pontus to take the time back without a mistake from his team-mate. So it makes perfect sense like you say.

This performance has come at a very nice time for Lappi. His stock is very high. Linked with 3 works WRC drives. Would be strange for him to spend another full season in the Skoda next year.

All Meeke can do is manage the gap to Mads and hope for a mistake ahead of him.

More aero doesn't mean more safe. More aero downforce make it in my opinion much more tricky to drive, not easier.

And any accident will be nastier that it is today... Less safe for both crews and spectators.

Neuville saying he cant follow the lines of the others (VWs) as they must have more lateral grip...

Yes off course... His lack of pace has nothing at all to do with driving, its all about diffs, tyres, dampers, chassis, etc etc.
And the reason the inexperienced Paddon is so much faster is that he did not attend the team meeting where Neuville told Hyundai how slow their WRC car is, and all the team nodded in agreement, so Paddon is unaware of how slow the car is.
As soon as Paddon gets this memo, he will find his place and be slower than Neuville... Allraighty then?!?

Neuville was on form in the second part of 2013. But has since driven with his shoulders above his ears, and have compensated for the lack of speed by attacking even more, which has made him even slower.
Neuville is a great talent, and has the potential of taking on Ogier, but then someone needs to tell him why he was so fast in 2013, and it was not by driving as he does now.

Somebody said that Ogier shouldn' complain about road position issues. This is utterly wrong. As far the sport is interrupted with artificial and unsporty rules like this I will support Ogier's complaint. In Loeb's era the rule was more human as the leading championship driver had to drive first on the road only one day (except 1-2 seasons).

I think also Latvala would like to win under clear conditions. He can do it and it's pity if his potentially well earned win will loose its value by this issue.

Think the opinions that he is to be replaced by skoda-ista are a tad premature. If anything it is Mikkelsen who should look to his laurels. Best car, but still nowhere near Ogier or Latvala on pace and prone (as here) to prangs when pushing. I don't see any major improvement from him.
