The engines this year sound, how do you call it ... lugubrious. Farting, whining in a Dyson sound package, really nasty :D

The engines don't sound markedly different to 30 years ago when the TV coverage was better.

I plan on going on Friday to hear these engines for myself. I'm actually intrigued. They better be as awful as everyone has complained about. Otherwise I'll rip into every poster who has made a fuss about it on every site I'm a member of!

I have heard them live. They are not that bad at all really. You can actually hear other stuff trackside that before you couldn't which is good actually.

They sound fine.

I thought they sounded different this year, based upon the trackside videos during testing. They sounded a bit louder to me. A direct comparison within the same video would be handy though (like someone did from the grandstand, comparing the V8s to the new V6s last year), so I can tell whether or not I'm imagining things.

They do still sound like electric window motors to me though.

Man, if only my vacuum cleaner sounded like that! All the carpet fibers would be gone from all the nonstop cleaning....
I'm curious about experiencing them live. Considering doing the trip to Montreal this summer. The Honda is missing in the video. I've heard it. I like it the best. More throaty and louder for sure.
This year's cars have gotten faster and more powerful than last year's versions.
Competitive lap times recorded at Barcelona are up between 1.4 to 2.2 seconds per lap! Mercedes has had the least gain and Sauber the most!
Power output of the complete Power Unit is estimated around 800HP this year.

To make myself clear about my reaction above, I love this new nasty sound :D
This sound is imo next to the Ferrari V12 scream of the early ninetees the best you can have. But now the fun is to listen very carefully what these variation of hytech sounds are all about, it's not only screaming.

I don't mind the sound, the only slight issue I have is with all the burping and farting, sounds like the morning after Oktoberfest
