Maybe on any given stage, BUT Lukyanuk was on his 'specialist' territory and Craig's pace must have spooked him. Well done CB.

Im sure he´ll win it this year, Skoda too few starts, and also Kajto and more even Lukyanuk, his only top rivals who are not only local drivers, don´t have the budget to start on all rallies, which minimies their chances of course.

Big congrats to Breen and his co-driver. Although they were not the fastest, this time they had luck on their side. Deserved, after last year's disastre, this came as a relief to them and also to PSA.

Lukyanuk lost the rear in a ditch, rolled twice and got stuck .. No fans to help him out. :(
'The Belarus driver was leading Rally Liepāja when he and co-driver Yevhen Chervonenko came into an innocent looking fifth-gear corner.
“It was a simple corner, which tightened over a crest,” said Lukyanuk. “We lost the rear of the car in the middle of the corner and went into a ditch onto the inside and rolled two times. There were no spectators there, it isn’t the place you would go to watch because it was a simple corner, so we couldn’t get the car out. It is a shame and I am really sorry for the fans and the team. The car is not badly damaged, so we would like to restart tomorrow to check the settings and the handling of the car.”

Very poor rally. Halls Winter from previous week was ways better.
Lukanyuk says he has a program of 9 ERC rounds this year. About his crash he says he is not fully used to the Fiesta yet, it has shorter steering than Mitsubishi's and Subaru's and at the same time the steering angle is smaller. He is certain he would not have gone off with his usual Evo.

From Estonian championship I can tell you that his weakest surface is snow. And no experience with tarmac.

And why is Berglund marked as "Opel Sweden" and not Opel Motorsport ? Isn't it Opel Motorsport which is running him ?

I am just looking pictures and I wonder when was the last time when we had so many cars with Pirelli tyres, especially 4wd cars. Plangi, Lukjanuk, Svilis, Butvilas, Consani, Katjo, Koltun, Tlustak, Vorobjovs, Costenardo, Tushkanova, Kabacinski, etc.? Basically only new Peugeots and Opel were using Michelin (some Peugeots were also with Pirelli, like Volver, Ogryzek).

I think one of the reasons is that Pirelli got very good sales work and tactics in the Baltic area. Also price / tyre are lower and that interests many privateers. And of course Pirelli IS competitive tyre in the ice/snow events.

For me it is easy - Pirelli sell you without problems, what you want. They are same competitive as Michelin, but price is 1/3 lower...
